Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 Not to get ahead of ourselves going into the playoffs.. But Let's say that the Wings make it back to the SCF, and Boston (or Montreal ,un-likely I know) get to the SCF as well.. That would make it a dream situation. 2 Original Six teams in the SCF, Should the 2 teams wear Throwback jerseys for the series? I think that would be a awesome way to play a historic series for the Stanley Cup
Opie 308 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 I am praying like mad it is Boston Detroit, so I can go to the SCF. What a dream come true, the only way it could be better is if I was at the game the Wings clinched the cup in. But like you said that is a little ahead of ourselves, but I guarantee you a Det Bos/Mon SCF would quadruple the ratings Ana V. Ott got!

Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 Considering that the throwback jerseys for Detroit and Boston are no where near as nice as their jerseys are now.... I am going to say no.
stormboy 47 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 (edited) i think it would be cool maybe for the opening game, or the first game in each city. i wouldn't do it for the whole series, but i think it would be cool i'm too lazy to look it up, but does anyone know when the last original six matchup was in the SCF? edit: just so we're not getting ahead of ourselves, you could make the hypothetical being any one of det/chi vs. bos/NYR/mon in the finals (i think they're all in the playoffs as of right now). GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 There are plenty of teams in the Eastern Conference that could be marketable, ratings wise. Montreal, New York, Boston, Washington, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh. There's a good chance that all these teams will be in the playoffs and one of them will make the Finals. Call be a homer for saying this, but in the West, the Red Wings are the only team that would be marketable for the NHL to play in the SCF. The casual sports fans (idiots) don't care about any of those other teams in the West. Chicago is an original six team also, but they've been so bad for so long, that it'll take a few years of being a good team before they will become a big deal nationally. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 Must've been a looong drive back home eh? EDIT - I'd love to see the Wings take on any 1 of these opponents in the Cup final: Montreal, Boston, NY Rangers, or Philadelphia. It was. The 3 hours we were stuck in Chicago rush-hour was an extra kick in the balls.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 Columbus vs Florida would be the worst.. Minnesota/Edmonton vs. Florida/Carolina is the worst case scenario for me. I would honestly not watch a single game of a SCF composed of any 2 of those 4 teams. Atleast if Columbus made it it would be fun to see if Mason could win the Cup in his rookie year. And it would be a nice story if the only team that has never made the playoffs before went to the SCF in their first appearance. Honestly, if the Wings make the final I don't care who they face. It's not like I'm going to say "eh, boring matchup, not gonna watch".

The casual sports fans (idiots) don't care about any of those other teams in the West. I think the Canadian teams would be popular, depending on the nationality of the casual idiots you're talking about. Any Canadian team in the SCF and the entirety of Canada will be behind them, with the possible exclusion of Toronto fans supporting Montreal or Calgary supporting Edmonton and vice versa. If by some stroke of misfortune, Vancouver made it to the SCF, you can bet that most of the Canadian hockey fans would be behind them to win it. Whether that would translate into money and TV ratings for Bettman's NHL is debatable, but don't count us out.

Canadians would watch a Cup final no matter which 2 teams were playing. Also, I don't think Canadian viewers count when we look at viewer ratings here in America for the SCF. Otherwise, the SCF would always have high ratings, but it generally doesn't.

I think that would be a awesome way to play a historic series for the Stanley Cup No. The uniform designs for the most part, haven't changed that significantly over time. We're not talking about baseball uniforms, which have changed quite a bit, both in logo design and overall construction. Sure some teams have stayed the same, about 90% haven't. That is far more interesting because there is definite contrast. Not so much here. Besides, it's hokey. The NHL doesn't need hokey gimmicks.
Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 34 seconds. That number will forever haunt me. I broke 5 of my mom's good china dishes after that happened. I was so pissed, I didn't even hear the sound of them breaking over the pounding of the blood in my head. Last time I got that viscerally angry after a hockey game, was when we got swept by the Devils in '95.
TheSupafly 50 Report post Posted March 20, 2009 Boston getting back to the SCF would be a stretch right now...they're playing worse than the Sharks. It's so impossible to predict anything right now. Injuries, hot goalies, and hot teams at the right time....it's what makes the stanley cup playoffs like nothing else.
