He was looking forehand and it's best to wait for the deke for a player right behind him to poke check his stick. Ozzie played the first move which is the way to play it when you have defense right there.

if he is the reason, Ozzie will have lots of company, like.... four defensemen who stand around and a stellar offense which is shooting blanks. Doesn't matter if it's 1-0 or 15-0, if you don't score, you don't win.
