AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 He SHOULD have been. Would have given someone a career year setting them up. Hm..maybe he could play with Hossa and leave Z and Pav together...

Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I wish Doug was a Red Wing, too. Good player and from the D. Maybe if we need to fill a slot this offseason for cheap, he'll sign for 500k like someone suggested. He'd make for a pretty sweet 3rd liner.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I was waiting for the rickroll. I wouldn't cry if we got him cheap. He'd be a good replacement for a few players.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I was waiting for the rickroll. I wouldn't cry if we got him cheap. He'd be a good replacement for a few players. Was projecting to a 60 point season on the Isles before his injury, this year. He could be next year's Drake, but better!
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 He'd be a good fit for us for cheap, especially once some spots start opening up.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 Next Drake, don't think his ever won a cup has he?
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I would love this so much. It would be difficult with the capspace problems we already have (is he even a free agent?), but the guy is exactly the mold that many folks think the Wings are missing.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 Next Drake, don't think his ever won a cup has he? He did with Carolina as a deadline acquisition.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Next Drake, don't think his ever won a cup has he? He being Weight? Yeah, he was with Carolina when they won it, wasn't he? Or am I getting old... (don't answer that). nm, Thanks for jumping HoH. I wasn't sure. Edited April 1, 2009 by 55fan

LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted April 1, 2009 I can see it now, 500 threads named Franzen-Hossa or Weight! Actually If he came in for lets say McCartys salary, I wouldn't mind seeing him play his last seaon in a Wings uniform. Also my dad is friend of Doug Weight, Sr. (from their time at Chrysler together)and I know he has said before that he would love to see his son play for the home-town team. Of course he is proud enough to have had a superstar son play ANYWHERE in the NHL, but to play for the team that they both watched a routed for as his was growing up would be even a bigger dream come true! Of course, I hope he doesn't want to come here to win a Cup, its gonna be hard enough to repeat let alone threepeat!

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Honestly in the past couple of years Dougies gotten a bit tougher too, he'd be an ideal Drake kinda guy, with more offensive upside, and same kind of leadership qualitys. Cant help myself, Screw Sammy, Sign Weight Kenny!
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Isn't his nickname Dead-Weight? Not saying I'd mind having him around, but he's getting up there in years and unless I'm mistaken, is pretty injury prone.
Trapt1307 81 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 I wonder what he was almost traded for in 2002? I remember hearing that he almost signed with the Wings one year when he was a free agent, but I had no idea that he was almost traded here.
Nev 1,085 Report post Posted April 2, 2009 Shanahan-Federov-Yzerman. Robitalle-Larionov-Holmstrom Maltby-Draper-McCarty Deveraux-Datsyuk-Hull I was gunna ask where Doug Weight would've fitted on that 2002 team, but then I wrote out those lines, and I suddenly noticed the weak link in the line-up. Would've been tough to sit Datsyuk though!

Would've been tough to sit Datsyuk though! For a minute I thought I was in the wrong thread and it was a "pick the all-time best lines" and I started wondering where the Production line was... and then I realized that this was our roster at one time. Holy crap, we were loaded. I'm still waking up... still on the 1st cigarette, so that's why I'm stupid now, but the fact remains: We were stacked like a pair of Andersons. And you're right. At that time he would have been in for Pavel. Wow.
