Fixed that for you :)

No, we didn't "coast" last Feb, we had 10 (count 'em, TEN!) starters out injured, including our top-4 D-men. Our 1st defensive line was Lilija-Lebda

Ageed. The word coasted is being used out of context. I don't think the wings played good hockey last Feb but I don't think they are coasting now. The just are not playing well. I don't think Professional level teams "coast".

Agreed x2. "Coasting" sort of implies it's intentional. ;)

I think Osgood recent words that "he is ready to lead the team in the playoffs" should be considered the second official wake up call. Wow, is all I have to say. If I'm Nick Lidstrom hearing those words or "I feel great out there" or how about the classic "To be totally sincere, I really feel I'm going in the right direction heading into the playoffs, I feel really good and I feel that is going to be my time this year" I'm laying awake in bad at night wondering what else the little voices in Osgood head are telling him. Its obvious that if there is any chance of success this play off the rest of the team will have to play near to perfect because every mistake they make has good potential to end up in the net.

We get it. Do you even want the Red Wings to win or more Ozzie to fail?

Oh not this again. Osgood is failing... just because I said that doesnt mean I want it, or hope it. He is doing it and it's not my fault. Do I even want the Red Wings to win?! What a stupid question, seriously. He's been the glaring sore spot for the entire season and its still against the Red Wing fan club rules to talk about it. I hope he does better but don't expect it especially with no signs of improvement on the ice. Defense has shown improvement but needs to find consistency.

Seriously, do you really believe that professional athletes that get paid $100,000's to millions get bored of the regular season. If they do then they deserve to slapped. The switch to turn on the ability to win broke, matter of fact I am pretty sure it never worked. SO if this is thier logic, we lost. Probably a first round exit. Not to mention that our likely opponents will be the Ducks. Travel, travel, travel. Not the best recipe for a team that is "bored".

I agree on the bored aspect. But I don't see how anyone can say a team plays with the same desire and heart, if they already clinched a #2 seed, then they would in the playoffs where every thing counts more.

Yes I do agree, the intensity may be differant. That is where someone has to pump them up. Maybe they wanted the blues to win so they are less likely to travel west for the first round.

Actually, playing golf most of the summer can get quite boring too.

In my world, where the sky is robin's egg peach and mouse-coloured yellow, I'm telling myself that the team has been using these last few games as a "come from behind" drill in case they face that situation in the playoffs. Let's hope we never get behind.

Seriously, though, I do believe they will get more of a sense of urgency when the playoffs start. It's not so much coasting or boredom as it is that they have no motivation to go balls-to-the-wall. What they've been doing is getting the job done well enough to be the #2 in the West.

Come the playoffs, especially if they go down the first game, they'll have to step it up a notch, and we've seen them do it a few times this year.

I think the difference in mind-set right now is the difference between "go out and play" and "go out and kick some serious butt". When the playoffs start, the mind-set will be different and I think we'll see different results.

I'm not saying "flip the switch". I'm saying that during the season, each game is one of 82. During the playoffs, each game is life or death.

We've got enough veteran presence in that locker room to know what it takes to win the Cup and what it takes to have a good regular season. I'm sure they all know that what's good enough for one will not be good enough for the other.

I'm not sure they need a wakeup call. I think the alarm has been set for mid-April.

they'll coast the rest of the way. SJC is up 6 points, Bruins up 3 points. The Wings are perfectly happy with the 2nd seed, so, ya, they'll coast the rest of the way, falter a bit in the first round, then come back strong and hopefully go all the way! (just like every season!)

We'll be out in no more than 6 games in the 1st round I'll put $ on it. Signing Hossa was a huge mistake left no room for a competant goalie.

I wouldn't go that far. This team has all the ingredients necessary to get the job done. If this team plays with play off intensity for 60 whole minutes each game then even the s***ty goaltending wouldn't be much of a problem. If the goaltending can be consistently good enough AND the team also kicks in with playoff hockey for 60 minutes we will be pretty hard to beat. I have a feeling Hossa will be crowned king after these playoffs. Would be nice to see Stuart and Kronwall wearing their s*** kickers for the playoffs too. And Franzen... if only he could use that size and strength with some North American play off grit he could be a true power forward like the Bertuzzi of old, he has all the right pieces for it.. except for the soft Swedish heart.
