Blue Jackets doing their homework for Wings -- literally

Proof Bill Clement calling Ken Hitchcock the best coach in the league was WRONG. Why?

Shouldn't the Columbus forwards be studying the Detroit defensemen and goaltenders, and the Columbus defensemen and goaltenders be studying the Detroit forwards?

Heh, good point. Though at least they presented their reports to the entire team, it would seem more beneficial for Commodore to be studying Datsyuk at this time, as opposed to Lidstrom.

If they came onto LGW for their homework, it probably went something like this:

Osgood - Worst goaltender in the history of everythingz. First shot is 100% gurenteed to go in.

Conklin - 2nd worst goaltender in the history of everythingz. First shot is 99% gurenteed to go in.

Rafalski - Hes overpaid and turns the puck over several times a shift.

Lebda/Chelios/Meech - If your on the ice against them, think about preparing your goal celebration tactics.

Entire 4th Line - YAYYYYYY!!!!

lol.. i couldn't agree more with that!

actually that one would be pretty easy. one line report: no weaknesses. cannot be stopped--attempts can merely be made to contain.

And maybe "Just try not to make a fool of yourself out there with him".

Wouldn't this be a really good way to make sure your team develops an inferiority complex?

Good idea. I think this did a couple things for the less experienced Jackets.

1) It served as something to take their minds off the pure hype surrounding the NHL playoffs. I mean to the Wings, this is a yearly thing, they aren't phased by it. But to a younger, non playoff experience (for the most part, even though they do have some vets who have been around the block) group of guys the exposure, mounting pressure and the pure magnitude of walking into Joe Louis for game one of a playoff series could get into your head. Maybe Hitchcock thought this would give them a least a little something to help take their minds off of the sheer size of what they are about to enter into.

2) Familiarize with the opponent. I mean, I think we can all agree there is no amount of studying one could do which would lead to a "shut down" of a Datsyuk, Hossa, Zetterberg, etc. However if they take away things from proven greats, even if it is in the form of attempting to emulate a segment of their game there is certainly not going to be anything "bad" coming from it. I mean take for example Mason studying Ozzie. Osgood is a playoff warrior who is a proven champ. I would like my young goalie, regardless of how good he was in the regular season, take - or at least try to take something away from a proven vet like Ozzie. I mean what bad can come of it?

Also, I am confident we are going to win this series, but I am always weary of completely writing the other team off. It is bad news when you start talking about "sweeps" and what not before the first game, or really at all. After the playoff losses to Calgary and Edmonton a couple years back I take nothing for granted.

In a regular tape session ya. But I think this was if anything, an attempt too get their guys to study proven champs, and how they play every aspect of their game. I mean it is actually flattering for the Wings. It is an attempt to try (of course they won't mirror, but to try) emulating the Wings.
