puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) So deserved... I hope Pasha wins it, and the Selke and the Pearson and the Lady Byng, and the Conn Smythe and that other big shiny beautiful silver mug. They're going to have to fly Pasha to Las Vegas on the team plane, just so he can haul all that hardware home with him without running into airport security. So much precious metal! He's awesome, and he's ours. It doesn't get much better than this. PS - edit for realism, I think Pavs will suffer somewhat from Red Wing burn-out/NHL media bias/Bettman influence. He may not win all the awards he's entitled to, just because... Edited April 29, 2009 by puckloo39

bellarina 1 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 He could possibly have his name on as many as 6 trophies this year. Selke<-- shoe in Byng<-- shoe in Pearson<--strong case Hart<--strong case and he should win. Smythe<-- we shall see Stanley<-- we shall see is there more trophies he can take?? dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Woo! I was afraid he would be overlooked. Ovie will probably win it, but it's good to see that more people are starting to realize what an amazing player Datsyuk is.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Even if he comes in third place, it's still a great, great honour to receive enough votes to make the top three. The only other Red Wings to ever make the top three in Hart voting were Fedorov, Yzerman and Howe. Although I'm fairly sure Lidstrom's made the top five before. Just what am I "posing" as? I happen to think that the most skilled offensive players in the league happen to be Russian. Is that so absurd? And to the idiot who said "Lame Post", I say "Lame Response".

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 whomever votes on this , good for them! It's the writers that vote, or specifically the Professional Hockey Writers' Association. They vote for almost all the major awards. Datsyuk being a finalist means he's top three in the voting, which itself means that the media has finally caught on to what Datsyuk really means to the Wings. Big for that. The evolution of Pavel's game has really been a treat to watch.

But, the stats that really stand out are at the end. Check out the Time On Ice stats. Pav plays MORE shorthanded minutes, LESS powerplay time, and less TOTAL time on ice then both OV and Malkin and still puts up close to 100 pts. Pavel Datsyuk for MVP. Hands down. titanium2 867 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 In a just universe he'd get it; as it stands the fact that he was nominated is definitely huge. Major props to Pavel on his huge year. I don't know about "in a just universe he'd get it." Don't they like to view the award as in "if this player was injured the rest of the way, how would the team do?" Because in that case, if you take away Pavel from the Wings, it's more likely that someone steps up and provides a stopgap for Pav's contributions. But if WAS didn't have Ovie or if PIT didn't have Geno then who would step up on their teams?

I'd, of course, love for Dats to win it -- but I honestly don't think he has much of a chance for the reason you pointed out. I think AO's the forerunner; the Caps would be nowhere without him. The Pens would still have Crosby.
Kwame_Kilpatrick 0 Report post Posted April 29, 2009 Like I've said, I understand and appreciate what Feds did for this team. I also understand the circumstances surrounding his departure from this organization. Specifically, I know he didn't simply pack up and say, "Seeya later, losers!" Even so, I don't see him as the kind of heart & soul Wing that gets his number raised. In all honesty, it pains me to say that; I idolized the guy as a kid. I even modeled my own game after his -- and it helped my career, while it lasted. So I hold him very near and dear. But I just don't see 91 going up. Maybe it will, but I'll be surprised if it does.
