titanium2 867 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 With the way that Getzlaf line plays so many minutes, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to have set 1 and 2 lines against them. Maybe they just need to get a little more creative with their shifts. The Cleary-Zetterberg-Franzen line has been good against them and so you want to keep that group out together for some shifts. But what about giving Pav a shift every now and again in Cleary's spot; or Hossa a shift every now and again in Franzen's spot. You start out with CZF and then on the next shift have DZF and then on the next shift have CZH. The main idea is to get a more creative rotation out there to give the big ANA line different looks and hopefully keep them guessing.

Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I don't think the Wings need to change their lines up. They just need to play with the type of hunger they had in OT for the entire 60 minute period. I don't care who you have on your team, when the Wings are playing at 100% nobody is going to stop them. Unfortunately this wasn't the case for a good 45 minutes prior to OT. dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I would be very hesitant to break up the 3rd line. It's been arguably our best so far in the playoffs. The 2nd line really looked good late in the game tonight, and they're good defensively. The top line hasn't quite gotten going, but I don't think there's any need to start panicking and breaking up the lines already.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I've been saying it since the middle of the season, and I constantly got hammered for it, but HOSSA AND DATSYUK DO NOT WORK WELL TOGETHER. If you separate those 2, its a whole different game. In reality, it would probably work better to jumble up the lines for Game 3, considering we won't have the last change. Franzen - Datsyuk - Cleary - Zetterberg - Hossa - Filppula - Put Homer, Sammy, and Hudler anywhere you want.

This isn't pannicking. This is fixing something that hasn't worked and has turned into a detriment to this team where it should be an advantage.

Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 I say: Helm-Datsyuk-Franzen Filppula-Zetterberg-Hudler Hossa-Draper-Samuelsson Holmstrom-Cleary-Kopecky Lidstrom-Ericksson Stuart-Kronwall Rafalski-Lebda Osgood Whhhhhhaaaaatttt?!? I've highlighted the roster changes that point to a possible drinking problem If we're going with some line mixing fun... (assuming Draper is out and Rafalski is in) How 'bout: Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hossa-Franzen-Hudler Cleary-Filppula-Samuelsson Kopecky-Helm-Leino Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lebda Commentary: The Franzen line seems a bit weird, but we've seen before that Franzen is a very capable centre on the draw and we all know Hudler is capable of setting everyone up. My first instinct was to put Filppula on the second line as a centre, but I'd rather keep him on the third to make that line more capable of doing damage. In my opinion, Filppula does much better as a 3rd line centre that's not being matched up against than he does as a 2nd line centre. Helm's line will create havoc (since Helm is fricking sweet on the forecheck), but without a solid offensive player added it's mostly wasted aside from wearing the opposition's d-men down. Adding Leino suddenly makes that line dangerous (see his performance in the NHL this year and his performance in the AHL- where he led the league in scoring through the first round- 11pts in 6 games). YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Hopefully Raffi is back, because that will help our PP and our D out a lot. We really need him back to help us breaking out of our zone. That skill gets underestimated, but without better breakouts through the neutral zone, that could be our undoing.

norrisnick 1 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Franzen - Zetterberg - Cleary have 9 goals 12 assists for 21 points and are a combined +19 through 6 games. Break that up and you deserve to be slapped. If Pavel and Marian can't figure things out mix and match them with the 3rd line but you don't touch that top line.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 4, 2009 Break apart the 1st and 3rd lines because they've been very ineffective against Anaheim, keep the Zetterberg line together, put Drapes in for Kopecky and Rafalski in for Chelios and the lines would probably be rockin again. Z, Dats and Hossa need to be within 2 lines, not three. So they can do what? Do nothing again? Hossa doesn't particularly work well with Zetterberg or Datsyuk. Having him on the 3rd line essentially gives us 3 2nd lines (consider Anaheim's 2nd line for a moment, and note that we could have 3 lines who are better than that in the offensive zone). Yes it spreads out the talent, but its not like stacking our lines has been best for us so far.
