Ducks defenseman James Wisniewski had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher with 6:11 to play in the second after being struck in the head by Detroit forward Tomas Holmstrom's elbow. Wisniewski had been defending in front of the Anaheim net when Holmstrom skated by and delivered the elbow shot. Seconds earlier, Wisniewski was hit by a slap shot in the rib area. When play was finally whistled, Wisniewski remained on the ice on his hands and knees. After several minutes he was helped onto a stretcher and taken to a hospital for precautionary reasons. He got elbowed in the head. Oh and by the way he got hit in the ribs with a puck a few seconds earlier and was already doubling over in pain from that..... Too bad it was more like "Engaged in a scrum in front of the net, Holmstrom accidentally clipped Wizniewski with an elbow." But that would be too realistic for journalism.. Duckette 0 Report post Posted May 6, 2009 What Holmstrom did was no big deal. I mean, yea I'm sure it hurt like hell, but it wasn't intentional. He was battling with Scott Niedermayer (I think) and pulled his arm back and clipped Wisniewski. He wasn't spitting up blood, his lip was cut. But what the !@#$ is the world coming to when the goddamn sports reporters are slanting stories? Jeez just report what happened, don't interpret, don't enhance. The only reason he turned around so quickly like that was b/c he was trying to get away from the clutching of Niedermayer. Niedermayer was called a penalty on it BTW.
