cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 This reporter saw it differently and is not afraid to tell the masses the wrong story. From: Toronto Star. Niklas Kronwall got five and a game misconduct, tossed for an elbow – called interference – into Martin Havlat's face. Helped off the ice, Havlat did not return. Mike 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Great pic that destroys every argument calling the hit illegal.
autoX 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Sweet freeze on the video. Good clean hit! Can Kronwall help that havlat had his head down? Don't think i will make the reels. Now if it was a Blackhawk laying out a Red wing we would be seeing it every five minutes. Wish i had the local Detroit feed. I am tired of the bias verus broadcastors. Mors 201 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 This was a totally clean hit, there was no elbow, and Chicago doesn't have the talent to win this series so they can cry all they want. Havlat got ******* rocked and that's all there is to it.
Mike 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Video from the CBC feed with a great explanation. Apparently a linesman can call a penalty when it is a major.
PenaltyShot 96 521 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 A Blackhawk fan sent this to me; this seems as good a thread as any to post it in: I watched the hit over and over again, it was huge and devastating and I would've loved it if I was a wings fan, but Havlat never touched the puck, nor did he shield it, so this defines exactly what happened: Straight from the rulebook: http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26348 Pick: A “pick†is the action of a player or goalkeeper who checks an opponent who is not in possession of the puck and is unaware of the impending check/hit. A player who is aware of an impending hit, not deemed to be a legal “battle for the puck,†may not be interfered with by a player or goalkeeper delivering a “pick.†A player or goalkeeper delivering a “pick†is one who moves into an opponent’s path without initially having body position, thereby taking him out of the play. When this is done, an interference penalty shall be assessed. The game misconduct was because it was dangerous. That's in the rulebook too. I disagreed with him, obviously, but I'm curious to see what other posters think about this argument. Discuss.
Mike 0 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 (edited) A Blackhawk fan sent this to me; this seems as good a thread as any to post it in: I disagreed with him, obviously, but I'm curious to see what other posters think about this argument. Discuss. This is another case of the NHL rulebook being complete s***. You look at one rule and it is a penalty, but if you look at another it is not. This same type of citing the rulebook came into play with Cleary's goal in Game #7. By one rule it was a goal, but by another it wasn't. The NHL rulebook needs to be rewritten, but it won't happen because if it did the refs would no longer be able to be untouchable. The NHL is turning into one big joke. Ambiguity in rules makes them worthless and stupid. Edited May 23, 2009 by Mike
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 He's just arguing semantics. Havlat wasn't literally "in possession" of the puck on his stick, but the hit was legal by NHL standards because it was right there in his feet. The words in the rulebook regarding a pick implies that the player getting interfered with doesn't have the puck, which is textbook interference; whereas in this case Havlat did, which is the distinction between a legal check and interference. Havlat being directly on top of the puck pretty much torpedoes any attempt at justifying the penalty via the call made on the ice: "interference."
Firehawk 305 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 Why don't we go to a non-checking league? I mean honestly...
Statts 4 Report post Posted May 23, 2009 That was a Scott Stevens special right there. Great hit by Kronwall. Sometimes you learn lessons the hard way... Keep your head up havlat.
MonkeyGoalie 14 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 If the hit was an interference call then why don't we see many more interferances call in all games. I've seen players getting checked when they allow the puck to past them, when at their feet, because they see a check coming. If the Kronwall hit was interfence then there should be a lot more of them called.
Pasha13 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 If they wanna go after our stars, that's just fine...all I ask is that they keep it as clean as the Kronwall hit. Good luck catching our stars so vulnerable, though...if that was easy to do, Pav would have been decapitated fifty times over in the Anaheim series...catching him in a vulnerable spot is like trying to catch a shaved, greased cat. Havlat on the other hand...made it WAY to easy.
BowHuntingFool 0 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 From what I have been reading, Kronwall is a go for game 4, no further action is being taken. I hope he catches another Hawk with their head down and takes em' out with another clean hit, preferably on Brian "Turnover" Cambpell.
NHLrules? 32 Report post Posted May 24, 2009 Talked to 5 hawks fans in the burbs this evening while at the UFC fight. ALL of them talked about how great the hit was, not ONE of them said it was a cheap shot. ALL of them said the penalty was bulls***. ALL of them were happy the hawks won. Not one person I talked to all night had anything bad to say about the hit. However one really cute girl told me, "Detroit Sucks" However I was able to get her to change her tune, to spite her ex. I was however unsuccessful in pulling a number (******* playoff beard) So I am at home tonight posting on this board.
