Franzen takes Kane's mouthguard

I love how he nonchalantly throws the mouth guard down on the ice. Absolutely classic! You know he was just chuckling to himself and can only imagine the story that Cleary told in the locker room.

Here I uploaded a better quality video.

This comment from the YouTube comments posters says it all:

The Mule must be saying saying:

Let me get that binkie for ya

Probably passed it to Quenville for his post game pity party.

LOL

I think it's funny that the announcer said Franzen "ripped" Kane's mouth guard out of his mouth.

Really? That's ripping it out? Ooooookay then.

HAHAHA!!!

"It was right there, couldn't resist," said Franzen.

Dan Cleary can be seen smiling in the Youtube vid.

"I've never seen that," said Cleary. "It was only the three of us, the ref, the linesman, that really had a good feel for it. It was just funny how the whole thing went down. He (Kane) was mad."

That 'couldn't resist' quote reminds me of Jack Sparrow and his coin trick.

This whole thing just goes to show you how the Wings, psychologically, get under another team's skin. They don't whine in the press like Crosby or Pronger, they do little digs here and there to throw the other side off.

Also during the game when Eager got tossed in the 3rd, NBC panned over the Wings bench and I saw Homer waving "bye" to Eager with a great look on his face.

that was totally priceless Hammer waving at him... and he wasn't the only one to do it either. a couple of other red wings did as well.

I noticed that too, but I think he was facing the other way. I think he was just laughing about Eager with someone next to him and the hand gesture meant that Eager got kicked out of the game because of his yapping.

I caught it and thought "wave," but you make a good point. Either way, it's hilarious.

I dunno if this was posted yet, but Hawks fans are pissed about it: http://boards.chicagoblackhawks.com/index....showtopic=33629

For the most part, yeah they're mad but we would be too if we were on the other end of that gesture. All normal reactions except for those few that wanted a power play and a ten minute misconduct for it.

Sure but a 10 minute misconduct? That's over the top. Par for the course of a Message Board, but still over the top.

Kane had a great attitude about the incident:

"I'm kind of whacking the goalie (Ty Conklin) and [Franzen] comes in and just takes the mouthpiece and throws it," said Kane, who often skates around the ice chewing on his mouthguard instead of having it in his mouth. "You never really think he was going to come up and grab your mouthpiece and throw it out. It was kind of surprising at first. The ref was right there so I was hoping he was going to call something, maybe a misconduct. I was kind of asking the ref a little bit for that.

"It's kind of surprising. It's never happened before."

Kane told me, "it's pretty funny, check it out on Youtube."

Nice that the kid had a good sense of humor about the whole thing. I like him more all the time. Oh and priceless that Mule actually did that.

First off, I HIGHLY doubt that he took it out of his mouth because he was chewing on it. They all do it, Zetterberg does it, I've seen Homer do it as well. So it wouldn't make sense. I'm sure it was a more of a "watch what you are doing" and the taking the mouthgaurd out as a warning. I would have been pretty ticked if he threw a punch at a moment like that. THAT would have been unnecessary for sure. Drawing a penalty would have been pointless cause the act was harmless... and kind of funny. The Blackhawks fans can laugh about how stupid it was and we can laugh about how BA it looked (cause BA it was). Another point I need to make, there's worst things then that which players have taken part in. Why would THAT call for a penalty? The whole argument of hockey I hear it has gone soft -- putting someone in the box for pulling a mouthguard out is outrageous.

Also, fighting is a part of hockey (yes it's true), but only not every moment needs a fight, for then it's just fighting... on skates.

lol look at a post in the Blackhawks message board about this

"How stuff like this does not get called for unsportsmanlike conduct I have no idea... that's just ridiculous... 10 minute misconduct at a minimum... should be a 2min PP too, though, really... if you're going to be a complete jerk, it should affect your team."

Another gem from their board talking about the mouthguard:

"The wings are worse than the soviet union in 1980. Their cheap and don't back up their pay. This oculd be our last game of the year we need to just go out their take runs fight when ever they get in our face and send a message for next year and next time in the playoffs we meet them they'll learn their lesson. Everyone says the hawks lost their heads last game but yet no wing was hit with a punch. If your going to lose your head go Stu Grimson earn your pim."

Well, every fan base has its 12 year olds.
