Tomas Holmstrom

I know negative threads usually pour out at negative moments, but I decided to bring this up now, in the midst of a 3 game win streak.

Is it just me or has Tomas Holmstrom noticeably started to decline? To me, he seems to be in over his head out there. His time should be done on scoring lines or during five on five play.

Moving further, it be nice if were able to move his 2 million plus salary, or restructure his contract to open up some cap room.

Um...there has been thread thread and post after post on this. Babcock at one point had Homer practice w/ the fourth line because of his low production, the media has interviewed Homer on this and how his redirections haven't been hitting the goal and he acknoweldged that and said he's trying to get back there.

You can agree or disagree with Homer whether it's just timing or he's losing his edge, but it's your presentation that this is some sort of new insight instead of an old topic that's being pounded into the ground I find odd.

There was a shift on the 3rd peroid that I said to myselt wow he is really moving out htere he went from one side of the ice to the other and then chased the puck out of the zone got it at the "where center ice line was" and took it back in he looked like he was as geared up for the game as ever to me.

Wernt alot of oportunities on the power play for him to park out infront of his office, Im sure his game will come and he will get one of those goals he is famous for

Holmstrom is really on vital on a powerplay when he can plant his ass in front because he has not made many tips these playoffs. He's a good agitator, but he hasn't been able to keep up.

Sure he's slow and not good defensively, but still has his purpose and 2 million isn't very much. His cap hit is 1.86 million. I think it would be nice if he, Lidstrom, Maltby and Draper would never be traded.

Homer's job is to make sure a goalie's face is planted firmly in his own butt-crack. It was only a matter of time before some d-men were going to take exception to that. Lately, he's been getting pushed around for parking in front of the blue ice, and he's been screened as well, keeping him from getting that vital redirection. Watch to see how many cross checks he takes in a game (before and after the whistle). That has to takes it's toll on a guy. I think, eventually, Babs will find a new spot for Homer to make life hell for everyone.

Just my opinion (mostly).

Homer isn't the best shooter or puckhandler or skater, but he earns every penny. And some. The guy takes $2M in crosschecks every playoffs alone.

He can't play with faster guys nor can he pass or stick handle on the same level as them... put him on the 4th line and maybe have him on the 2nd pp-unit until he find his game again.. or maybe it's just the age thing.

I think Homer has been playing pretty good the last couple of games actually.

I agree. He was actually skating last night to the point that my brother and I actually remarked "holy s***, look at Homer go!"

The injuries the last few years have really stifled his career, and at this point he should be only a PP specialist, but not a guy that plays on the top 2 lines.

Then again, with Hossa and Datsyuk playing like crap during the playoffs, everyone should have foreseen that Homer would decline along with them. He's not the kind of guy who'd going to carry a line.

I thought he had a great past couple games. He got in some good backchecking last night, I love it! The man takes a beating every game and then some. He does his job and does it very well. Just because some do not understand the role, doesn't make him a bad player! Keep on, keepin'on Homer!

In the third, he had a few good shifts. I saw this too. But in the first two periods, especially the 2nd where the Pens carried the play for the first 10 minutes, Ninety-SUX was up to his usual garbage. PLEASE just watch game 2 and notice one thing: When the Wings are chasing the play as the Penguins cycle down in the Wings' zone, notice how many times each player on the Wings is involved in that. Holmstrom is a defensive liability and doesn't contribute much to the offense 5 on 5 either. He's good for a small hit along the offensive boards once in a while, but he doesn't have enough value to keep him out there. He's basically just tiring himself, his linemates, and the team when he's out there 5 on 5. I'm glad a lot of people on here have lost their HHO over the last 5-6 games. It's not rocket science. Holmstrom's value was limited to begin with. We all love him for what he can do, but we shouldn't make believe that he can do the things that Red Wings forwards are asked to do 5 on 5 in the playoffs. He can't.

your whole, "Ninety-SUX" and "HHO" is getting real old, and actually annoying. I can understand if you don't like someone but come on. Grow up a lil bit man.

Homer's turnover in the neutral zone eventually to led to the goal when Stuart turned the puck over to Malkin.

Decision-making was not very good last night. Hopefully just jitters, which would surprise me with this veteran team. Samuelsson and Hudler were just awful.

13 games, 1 point, -1.

What is his "role" again? I'd rather him NOT "take a beating every game and then some" if this is the kind of play we're going to get. You know where we'd be if the 11 other forwards on the team had this kind of production?

I don't really see a need to be concerned. Yes his production has been down the last two playoffs years, but it hasn't effected the team in a negative way. He's never been a guy who makes big mistakes that cost the team.

Well, to extend the discussion, Homer's numbers are declining, and honestly, hes getting hurt more and more, sometimes a player has to decide its time to hang them up. I see Homer either hanging them up at the end of this season, or not getting an extension when his contract is up. I love homer, but, hes on the downside of his carrer now.

I agree, I just don't know who will fill his shoes in front of the net. Cleary is a possibility (he's been great in front of the net in the playoffs), but I don't know if he's going to be able to take the kind of punishment that Homer does.

Either way, Homer is almost done. He's the guy I'd most like to see go right now of all of our forwards (including Leino, Abby, and Helm).
