Pskov Wings Fan 71 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 I have a feeling that 5 years from now we're still going to be talking about how stupid of a move this was. Or nobody will remember about it a year from now.
skacore 2 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 Nah, this one is pretty weak... You can tell the strength of a draft class by how many players (usually numbers 1-15 on the rankings) have more "pros" then "cons" in the scouts analysis. This year the ones with more pros then cons only lasted through #8 it's an amazing draft... just shh lol

dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 I have a feeling that 5 years from now we're still going to be talking about how stupid of a move this was. Or what a fantastic move it was. Just wait until our pick 75 becomes another Selke Winner and Ashton turns out to be nothing.
egroen 384 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 Meh... most quality power forwards go pretty early in the 1st - I'm ok with the Wings moving down a bit, but certainly wish they could have gotten better than 75th.

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) Again, Nill has been quoted as saying that there is little to give between #15-#35 in terms of prospect talent. It's obvious that the Wings value a #32 pick as much as a #29. Plus they get an extra 2nd rounder. I have absolutely no problem with this. The only thing that's annoying is that we have to wait until tomorrow before the Wings take their first skater. I'd still rather have a first and second than two seconds ot two seconds and two thirds. I know the picks are damn near the same, but there are a couple gems that could go between our original spot to the 32nd pick. sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 I'm pretty sure I'll stick with Jim Nill's opinion over yours. Not my opinion. It's TSN's Bob McKenzies - who is looked at by many as one of the most involved and on point experts in regards to the NHL draft.

rage 24 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 It kinda sucks, because I was really looking forward to seeing the Wings draft somebody tonight. I can't watch the news for like a week. It's NON ******* STOP MJ coverage!

RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 I'm fine moving down three picks for an extra 3rd. Remember, Franzen was a 3rd rounder.

Good for Bob. Nill says 1) the draft is comparable to 2003; and 2) the players ranked from 20-35th are pretty much a wash.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted June 27, 2009 I tuned in just as Ashton was celebrating and I was like....whoa...6 foot 2, 200+ pounder (eventually) Canadian power forward who can fight and plays responsibly in his own end and works his butt off, good character kid.. HOT DAMN! Wings are finally adding some NA flavor and punch to the system. FECK YEAH! ..............oh wait, we traded down, Tampa picked him up. Well suck a fat one. Who knows if Ashton is going to be anything. The point is he was a 1st round talent with size, character and ability. He's the type of player this team needs to add for diversity. I swear to God if tomorrow, we end up drafting a 5 foot 11, 180 pound European I am going to ******* puke. I have nothing against Europeans or small players. But holy s*** Batman, how many does one team need? We need to mix up the roster some. Add some more size, grit, toughness and here you have Ashton, a kid who has the attributes you are looking for, the pedigree and the work ethic. WHY NOT DRAFT HIM? I'm a little more than bummed. It's all fine an dandy to have a bunch of Datsyuks and Zs and Hudlers and Flips. But mix it in with some beef, some grit, some toughness with all the talent. Mix in some guys who drive and crash the net, some guys with the size to battle the big dmen of the league and can actually fight if need be. What is it with this organization's aversion to toughness?

You really think that this year can compare to 2003's draft class? I mean your personal opinion. The question marks start popping up after picks 8 or 9. I think this one was super top heavy with Tavares, Hedman, Duchene, Kane, and Schenn, but other then that its a toss up.

Snazzy 0 Report post Posted June 27, 2009 Olsen seemed like a good pick too. I really don't want another small or soft player. I want the Wings to pick up a gritty sandpaper in your face tough drive hard to the net defensively responsible type player.

Who/did we get anyone, if so are they any good, and what would be our grade as of right now for the draft? TSN.ca/NHL tells you who got who. Lots of Canadians and Swedes. You can't tell yet how good the kids will be. The future will tell us. I really want Wings to draft only small Europeans who are soft, don't speak a word English and have strange customs. Just so that LGW could entertain me for a while. Edited June 27, 2009 by P. Marlowe
