Report: Hossa turns down Wings' offer

If they actually tried to sign him for under $4 million cap hit, than I don't blame the guy at all. That's kinda shocking that it went on this long if they were really talking a $3.75 million cap hit for a guy like Hossa.

He was one of my favorite players on the Wings, too bad he's no resigning. I'm not going to hate his guts though, he has to do what he has to do and having a chance of winning the Stanley Cup every year evidently doesn't matter to him anymore.

It was nice having Hoss around, but I won't be terribly upset to see him go elsewhere. It's just not worth sacrificing depth to keep him around. With that said, I'm excited to see where he lands, and what Holland does with any available dollars, assuming we lose Hudler. Weave your magic, Kenny.

Thanks for the work during the season. Piss off for wasting $7m of our cap space and a roster spot with your ridiculous disappearing act in the playoffs.

Yes, because offer-sheets are thrown about willy nilly. And I'm SURE teams are going to be gunning for Hudler at 3M, when they know Boston can't match an offer for Kessel at $5M.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hudler got an offer sheet for around $2.5 million. Not every team has the cap situation that Boston has. Lots of teams have extra money and would be willing to spend it on Hudler. That comparison is flat out stupid. There are 30 teams in the NHL and I'm sure more than the Wings are interested in having him.

No joke. I don't understand why people think that Hudler will be getting huge offer sheets. He's a completely one-dimensional player, and he's certainly not a well-known one.

He is saying that teams would more likely go after Kessel then Hudler.

It's not worth it to trade though, b/c they couldn't use this years draft pick, it's next years.....if Hossa is going why would you NOT keep the #6 forward??? They're still negotiating.....I'm not giving up yet

I like Hudler. I really do. He has earned everything he has gotten in Detroit. He deserves credit for that. However this team needs some more size and grit to go with the all world skill. We have Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Filppula and Cleary up front. Leino is another skilled guy who can likely score alot of points. And he will be much cheaper than Hudler is. As much a I like Hudler, the Red Wings do not NEED him. If we end up re-signing him then I will not be sad. For $1.5 mil Hudler is a good salary to have. Hudler at $3 mil on THIS team is redundant. Kind of like when we had Robert Lang at 3 mil to centre the 3rd line. In a Cap world, a GM has to manage his team shrewdly which Kenny does an excellent job of doing. When I read Kenny say I GAVE HUDLER'S AGENT AN OFFER AND HE WAS LESS THAN THRILLED it makes me think they lowballed him. They have to lowball him because they simply cannot afford to pay Hudler 2.5-3 mil a season which given Jiri's production is what he deserves in the current market. In the end I believe Hudler will be traded for draft picks.

Good to hear that. Because Holland would easily match an offer for $2.5.

You obviously have no clue what 57 point 25 year olds are worth.

For once I agree with Crymson on something.

Hossa greatly underachieved in the playoffs, and made himself look like a fool for leaving the Pens last year. Yeah, he had a great regular season, but in Hockeytown that doesn't matter.

He played like an average joe in the playoffs, and that's not why we signed him in the offseason. People need to stop acting like this guy was here for 10 years and gave us great memories. He did nothing of the sort, and we have every reason to be happy that he's gone, because now we can clear up cap space and hopefully sign someone who'll actually play up to their expectations in the playoffs where it counts most.

so why would we give a raise to a one-dimensional player? I'll keep hudler, but for his same salary. He hasn't shown he deserves a raise, so if wants more than $1.1, good on ya huds! Enjoy your career!

Im hoping this is a faulse report. It is hard to believe they only offering 3.75-4.00. I was expecting more like4- 4.5 million at least

That throws me a bit. I have a real hard time believe they'd go under $4 million at him. That just sounds a little absurd. I still haven't seen it pop up anywhere else.

Kenny would match a $2.5 million dollar offer sheet and leave $800,000 to sign 2 more forwards and walk away from draft picks? I think not. It's all about the cap.
