TSN Talking About GM's Being Foolish on July 1

With no attention to the next 2 years, Talon overspent for Hossa AND Kopecky. Havlat is gone and the core of experienced youth will depart Chi over the next few years. . . they just don't have the money anymore. Gotta love Campbell and Huet eating up so much cap money.

The Hawks have Scotty Bowman in the decision making process. They got Hossa at a great price. You're out of your mind. Hossa is officially profoundly overrated at LGW. This will hurt us next year. A great Hawks team just got a hell of a lot stronger. Hossa's a defensively responsible veteran who works his ass off and is taking a discount to be with a team longrun and ideally be successful. That's a great thing for this young Hawks team to have to look up to. They may be the team to beat this year in the West.

I think whatever happens after 2 years from now is pure speculation and could change if guys decide to take paycuts or trades happen. As of right now, Talon is a brilliant man, recognizing his team has a chance to be contenders and jumping on it. We'll see if he made the right moves or not in the 2 years you don't want to give any attention to.

Professional anchor Campbell is totally unmovable, but Huet seems like a guy that could be dealt without too much trouble providing that there's a team that needs a goalie and has the cap space, so long as the Hawks sweeten the pot with picks/prospects to bribe a team into eating the big contract.

The only thing then is I don't know who'd stop pucks for the Hawks, but it seems like a better plan than losing one of Toews or Kane.

Hoss is actually signed to a pretty reasonable deal. The only problem is that Toews and Kane will need new contracts soon.

Yeah, like next year. Don't forget Duncan Keith too. Its almost as if the Hawks did this to piss us off or something because there's no logic behind it.

signing Hossa to a "hometown discount play here for the rest of your career" like contract similar to those that the wings are giving out, might be a lead by example for Toews and Kane when they are due to sign.

However the cap in the coming years is said to fall would suck for chicago if when they had to resign these boys and the cap droped as well.

They might also know Hossa at $5.2 million for life won't be the hardest thing to deal away either. Sure, the term is long, but the cap price is right. The Wings might've been able to do this deal if it was next year. A $5.2 million cap hit for a guy like Hossa is still an absolute steal. I don't know what Chicago's going to do in the next few years though...it'll be an interesting situation to watch.

I was wondering about this, there has been no info (at least that I have seen) on if there is a NTC but surely there is for Hossa to take such a discount on the deal.

Well, Talon just unloaded Bulin. I guess he's not that stupid.

The Hawks needed to address their defense corps before a big name two way forward. In a world of Lidstrom, Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall, Beauchemin, Niedermayer, Phaneuf, Ryan Whitney, Bouwmeester they simply need more top defense to help cover certain pylons that may or may not be getting another misconduct.

What a difference a year makes. Hossa is a no-show in the very Finals he wanted to be in, and now he gets a $5.2M (avg) a year. And I still think Chicago overpaid. FFS, it's the best chance of your life to win the Cup and you disappear?

The Kopecky signing must have been blackmail by Hossa. $2.4M for Kopecky?! Congratulations, 'Hawks! That guy was worthless!

And good luck Mr. Tallon when it comes time to sign Toews & Kane later on. Detroit can pull off the hometown discounts because the organization is first class. But the 'Hawks are not the Wings. Not even close.
