Guest micah Report post Posted July 29, 2009 But only if we can also get Laraque, and Grier :afro: Laraque, Brashear and Grier, and I'm in. They can be our 4th line, and they'll only play when we're down by 3 or more goals, or up by 3 or more goals with less than 2 minutes left. And they'll play against Tootoo every shift he's out there. T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 The OP has a good point. I, myself couldn't help but notice that there aren't any women in the NHL. I think that would really benefit the organization to have a chi, a woman, as the face of the team. Or, like the news casts, the Wings could get a black woman and knock out 2 diversity points with one person. And that should promote hockey thru the female community and the black community. Holmstrom96 347 Report post Posted July 29, 2009 I believe the lack of diversity stems more from the lack of affordability of hockey. The majority of minorities (linguistic ha) still populate low-class, low-value areas such as Detroit. Basketball, baseball, and football are all cheaper than hockey by a wide margin. I agree. There is an economic barrier to playing hockey, and because the different races are spread disproportionately through different socioeconomic classes, that is why there are less black hockey players. However, I don't want Grier, mainly because he sucks.

Yak19 303 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 The Red Wings are already doing their part for diversity, look who is listed on Wikipedia under List of ice hockey players of Middle Eastern descent, our own Justin Abdelkader. good to see Abs has some Polish in him
VikingMark 5 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 We need Taro Tsujimoto. Now how many get that obscure reference? Didn't he play for the Tokyo Katana's?
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 Well, he'd bring diversity for obvious factors and it'd be a cool story, but I'm more interested in seeing good players excel with the Wings and help improve their team, whether they are white, black, yellow, Korean, Japanese, English, Austrailian, you get the idea... I think it'd be awesome for the Wings to have an Asian player. Like a Kenny Wu type who penetrates through defenses and then dishes it off to a shooter. titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 30, 2009 I definitely wouldn't want to mess with a figure skater. Ok well not exactly a Kenny Wu type. Though it'd be funny to watch him duck through under people's legs. Hasn't that been a knock on the Wings? That they're just figure skaters with hockey sticks. When you watch Kronwall's feet move then you see where that comes from.

sureWhyNot 19 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 I don't care what color the player is - the fact that people around here have literally been drooling over a very, very average Mike Grier has me baffled. I mean 10 goals and 13 assists - while playing on a stacked San Jose team (albeit, that lasted as long as the regular season did) is something 75% of NHL forwards could produce, if not more. I know the pickings are slim - and we dont have much money to play with - but I would rather grab a Dominic Moore or Manny Malhotra - and if we can't get a guy worthwhile offensively, someone with some size and a mean streak. sputman 1,268 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 QFT! Canadians with a penchant for fighting = double minority status that's not going to happen. the wings have a formula that works, and they're going to stick with it, as frustrating as it is (and i admit that being frustrated at having a competitive team every year is ridiculous, but i HATE seeing my team pushed around - absolutely hate it). sputman 1,268 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 It's great to see the Wings capable of challenging for the Cup year after year - however I'm a believer of "old-school" hockey in which it's nice in having that element on the roster when things get rough. i agree, but i think this guy named holland whom everyone adores (myself sometimes included) is sticking to his formula. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted August 1, 2009 It appears so - however at this years draft Holland, and Nill picked-up a few scrappers so who knows?...Maybe that series against the Ducks opened their eyes. Doubt it was the Ducks. They just happened to find some kids who can scrap AND play and were still there when the Wings got to them (without a better option sitting in front of them). Callahan looks like he could be really fun. He's a good skater, has NHL hands (not top six hands necessarily, but good enough to contribute) and appears to be dedicated and full of energy. That and he loves hitting things with his fists. Can't wait to see him play!
