4.75 mill for the same points as Hudler with 3 minutes more of ice time a game?

Sheesh it's amazing how many idiots on this site want this guy, he is obviously a cancer. If he does sign, he would quickly be the most hated player on this site. half of these people who want him on this thread were agaisnt Hudler, yet they want a 4 inch taller version of him for almost twice as much as Hudler would have agreed to? Do the 5 inchs and the ONE EXTRA POINT WITH 3 MORE MINUTES OF ICE TIME A GAME really worth a 2 mill increase of waht Hudler agreed too before arbitration? Honestly Thank god for Ken Holland, because if 90% of this board ever got a gm spot, they would absouloutly obliverate a team.

 People on this site would have spent money on July 9th after Hudler was leaving for guys that are still available as well. Sorry this guy is all kinds of talent but he has gotten slammed for his work ethic. I forget if it was CBC or VS that was kicking him around for how much he didn't work during the Caps series for his whopping 0 pts in 7 games.

Not gonna happen. This guy is looking for a HUGE payday. He'll likely go to the KHL like all the other others looking for $$$. The NHL Salary Cap is chasing off a lot of talented players.

Are you serious?? 2M for either one?? We would be lucky to get Zherdev for $3 million. All indications are that Lilja will start the season on IR, leaving us with enough to add someone for $0.5 million.

There's no other way for it to happen. The Wings have around 3M total to sign two players, assuming they trade away a defensman like they said they would at the beginning of the year. To sign Zherdev at 3M we would have to rely on Meech as our 12th forward. And in order to get .5M from Lilja being on IR, he would have to sit out 40% of the season (which means Meech is going to be needed on the back end. At this point you might as well have Abby play full time, but then you can't afford Zherdev anymore. This is why I don't think its likely that Zherdev comes to Detroit. Prospal, however, is a different story because regardless of where he ends up he is still going to be getting paid from Tampa Bay because they bought out his contract. He is in a position to make close to 4M a season with only having around a 2M caphit. If he wants to win a Cup, these next couple years are far and away his best opportunity at it.

He is under the impression, as are many other fans here, that the universe will shift itself in order to meet the desires of the team. Players will take massive discounts in order to play for the team, etc. etc.

It's been said before and I'm gonna say it again.

Offer him the Hudler deal -- 3 million for three to five years. Whatever he wants.

If he takes it. Sweet. If not. At least it was tried.

He did not take 3.2 from Rangers. He does not seem to be the kind of guy who will take less to play for Detroit.

And now Wings don't have Hudler. Wings can offer 2.75 to Zherdev and they would not have Zherdev either. What would be the point of this exercise?

The point was to exercise that Offering Zherdev 4.75 Million would be stupid as the Wing's brass offered a more efficent player 2 mill less. That was the point of the exercise? Understand? Not that hard at all really...

I was asking what would be the point of Wings offering Zherdev 2.75. He did not take 3.2 from Rangers. Unless he offers to play that amount of money himself it is just a waste of time.

Hudler contract is not a good reference point in any case. It is more of a safety net in case his KHL gig goes bad. Chances are Hudler is not going to play for Detroit next two years.

And it seems you are under the impression that picking jabs on other people is cool, especially before reading their posts to check the facts. Look over my last post and you will see that I said he won't be signing with the Wings because the above situation that I proposed is the only way to have a complete roster with him in it.

You miscomprehended whay I was saying. I was saying bascially the exact same thing you were, the Wings were not going to offer Zherdev more money then Hudler, let alone what Zherdev feels what he himself is worth.

Yes, he is that guy.

He's Ukrainian by birth (but plays for Russia..lame)

As much as I would love for him to go to Detroit (so I could finaly say a Ukie plays for them), I dunno about his work ethic. it's been questioned a bit, but maybe Babcock could whip him into shape. For a good price I wouldn't mind seeing him here, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'd rather have Fedotenko who likes to show up in the playoffs.

Im for Zherdev. Why not, he already said he always like the Wings, hometown discounts while not expected, are not surprising. He could realize his potential here and if he doesnt play how we want him to, let his contract run out, which would likely be a couple years anyway, and send him packing.

We were home to Sammy for how long, and suddenly were picky about Zherdev....wow. Give it a shot. I can only imagine how many people wouldve siht themselevs and called for Hollands head when he signed Cleary and look at him now.

Detroit is gonna sign another $1M or less UFA an let McGrath and Oulahen battle it out for the 13th spot. Now, who that will be, dunno!

I'm guessing Meech will stay as the 7th d-man / 13th forward. I strongly, strongly doubt they'll carry 13 forwards AND 7 d-men this season unless they sign a very cheap player as the 12th forward AND trade or LTIR Lilja (who looks most likely to be on the LTIR at the start of the season).
