Peleshob 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Well, he's not Mike Grier, but this is fine with me. He's one of those guys who I think could break out like Cleary did. He and Helm on the same line = serious damage. He was on pace for about 150 hits last year during the regular season, but wasn't as good in the playoffs. Here's hoping he signed for a good cap number, and that he works out well this season.
NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 I keep refreshing this thread in hopes to see what kind of deal he signed for.... c'mon, announce it dammit! haha It irritates me when teams don't announce the terms of deals... In the salary cap world, transparency is essential, so the deal information will be released sooner or later... I don't see the point of witholding that information. xtrememachine1 795 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 According to Red Wings Central, the deal is worth less than $1 mil. Link
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Former 1st rounder, interesting. He must be our enforcer for the 4th line, he did have 1 fight last year. Way to go, Kenny... lol.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Great deal if that's true, that still leaves 1.5-2 mil for another player.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Firstly I agreee with GS&T that it is a project signing that is very similar to Cleary. Secondly anything that is 1 mil or less makes it an amazing signing. My Lines so Far: Z-D-Cleary Franzen-Filppula-Leino Homer-Helm-Eaves Maltby-Draper-Abdelkader

Secondly anything that is 1 mil or less makes it an amazing signing. My Lines so Far: Z-D-Cleary Franzen-Filppula-Leino Homer-Helm-Eaves Maltby-Draper-Abdelkader Sorry, but with this much cap space, there is no way that Abdelkader will be paying in Detroit. We have more than enough to sign a solid bottom-six forward... Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Cleary Franzén-Filppula-Leino/Holmström Leino/Holmström-Helm-Eaves FA (hopefully Betts or Grier!)-Draper-Maltby Meech/Oulahen
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Eaves' Red Wings contract is a one-way deal worth less than $1 million. "It's kind of a Dan Cleary story," said Nill. "Starting when careers were on the bubble. He's here to be on our team. He's a guy with the skill set that he can play on any forward line. We h ope he can rekindle his scoring touch with us." LINK That being said...great move Holland!!! By using cap geek and assuming its a 0.9 million dollar deal. then calling oulahen the 13th forward, then trading meech... The Wings have approximately 1.5 million left to sign somebody, leave some space, make that 1.2 million to sign somebody...they can still get one more decent player. NGKEIB 32 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 In any case, here's to some news! Let's face it, this forum was close to stagnating. I'm excited.
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Great move by Holland!!! Eaves is better option than Williams. Z - D - H Flip - Franzen - Cleary Eaves - Helm - Leino FA (Betts/Grier/Bell) - Draper - Maltby/Abdelkader Lids - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericsson - Leba/Lilja (not sure he's going to play ever) Meech/Kindl/Delmore/Janik Invite Bell and McLaren to summer camp. If McLaren is in game shape (than trade Lebda/Meech) and play McLaren with Ericsson.
HudlerFanatic 4 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 from MLive http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/08/re...rick_eaves.html Eaves is only 25 and has four NHL seasons under his belt but he's struggled to reach the potential he displayed in his rookie season with the Ottawa Senators, where he had 20 goals and 29 points in 58 games back in 2005-06. Injuries and inconsistent play have dogged him since then. Last season with Carolina he had only 6 goals and 14 points in 74 games. He has the potential to be a top six forward and playing with the Red Wings this could be his best chance to get his NHL career back on track. The Sports Forecaster: RW/LW Patrick Eaves Age: 25 Date of birth: May 01, 1984 Place of birth: Calgary, Alta., Canada Ht: 5-11 Wt: 190 Shoots: R Salary: $1,100,000 NHL Seasons: 4 Drafted by Ottawa in 2003 (1/29). ASSETS: Is an excellent skater and fore-checker. Anticipates plays well at both ends of the ice, and displays all-around ability. Owns intriguing scoring upside. FLAWS: Still needs more bulk in order to thrive at the NHL level. Could use more fine-tuning in all aspects of the game. CAREER POTENTIAL: Top six winger. So, he anticipates plays well at both ends, and displays all-around ability, but could use more fine-tuning in all aspects of the game.......isn't that what they call a "contradiction"? WOW REALLY?! - Top 6 forward potential, eh? Most of that description sounds a lot like another player I know..........NHL career back on track.......how 'bout getting someone that is already on track to make up for our losses. Most posters have said "nice signing"....cap wise, I agree....skill wise......hmmm....think Holland could have done better. Hudler was frowned upon for being greedy, but Holland is awarded praise for signing a young, previously injured, inconsistent 5'11 190lb forward........ok....sounds like a good deal to me..... But what do I know, I'm a Happy Hudler fan........
WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Lines in Babcock's mind... Datsyuk - Z - Holmstrom Franzen - Filppula - Cleary Leino - Helm - Eaves UFA - Draper - Maltby Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Stuart Ericsson - Lebda I just hope to God that Homer is able to put in a halfway decent season and able to stay healthy for 65+ games. He probably should be on the third line with most of his minutes coming from the #1 PP unit. I don't think he can keep up with Datsyuk and Z for another season. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 Most posters have said "nice signing"....cap wise, I agree....skill wise......hmmm....think Holland could have done better. Do you have any suggestions? Keep in mind the Wings still need enough cap space to sign one more player. Hudler was frowned upon for being greedy, but Holland is awarded praise for signing a young, previously injured, inconsistent 5'11 190lb forward........ok....sounds like a good deal to me..... He is going to make less than one million. If he accomplishes anything at all, it's a bonus.

hooon 1,089 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 you could sign ME for the league minimum... but that wouldnt make it a good signing. Just because a guy is dirt cheap doesnt make it a good deal. Hopefully il be eating those words in a few months but i dunno. The word 'potential' always scares me, cause it doesnt actually mean anything yet.

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted August 4, 2009 But what do I know, I'm a Happy Hudler fan........ A lot of people were/are Hudler fans...but guess what...He is not, will not, won't be a Red Wing in the fall...he may or may not never play in the NHL again... In order to move on it is best to sign 2 NHL caliber players to good financial 1 year deals and let Abdelkader AHL it up. That being said Eaves for what is being said on here for 500k means they have 1.6-2.0 million more to sign another player...thus eaves is an amazing signing.
