skacore 2 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 I noticed the caption under the picture says "Förra säsongen hamnade Detroits Andreas Lilja i flera slagsmål, bland annat med Columbus Jared Boll. " does that say he got injured in a fight with Boll? it was Shea Weber anyways that is horrible news... feel bad for the guy... blow out game, team was getting embarrassed... he just wanted to send a message (who else is going to?) and he'll regret it forever queue the horde
Swayze 81 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Google translated it to say something like last season ended in fights, including jared boll of columbus.
ShanahanMan 473 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 (edited) It was for sure Weber. I think it was that night we lost like 8 to nothing. I had a baaaaaaad feeling once I saw Lilja go down. Sadly, this might turn out to be another Primeau situation and his career could be done. Poor guy... Edited August 6, 2009 by ShanahanMan

In the article they write that it was Weber who injured him. Anyway, I'm beginning to lose hope that Lilja will be back on the ice anytime soon. We'll probably be without him for atleast the first half of the season. Edited August 6, 2009 by dat's sick

donfishmaster 62 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 http://hockey.expressen.se/Nyheter/1.1662633/lilja-plagad That stinks. Even beyond hockey, you can get by with a sore arm or knee, but headaches just ruin so many aspects of regular life. I hope this gets corrected for Andreas' sake. He's a good man and deserves better. titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 A. Men. I'll be dumbstruck if we lose another D-Man like this...*shakes head* It's really scary isn't it? Vladdy and Fish, both Dmen with some of the ugliest of mean streaks, have had tragic endings to their careers. Derian Hatcher, one of the nastiest defensemen in his prime, didn't even play more than 15 games before he blew out his ACL. Do the hockey Gods seriously disapprove of the Red Wings having the Chris Pronger type? It's like some sort of curse. Maybe Ericsson and Stuart should run. I hope that I never have any persistant headaches or back pain in my life. Those things can make life miserable.
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Lilja is finished, sad but true... That's what happens when no-true-fighter (Lilja) fights with some real fighters... Do the hockey Gods seriously disapprove of the Red Wings having the Chris Pronger type? It's like some sort of curse. Maybe Ericsson and Stuart should run. This is what I was thinking. Imagine what could have been if Vladdy had not had the accident and played long enough to be paired with Fischer. That would have been sick. And then Fischer with Lilja when Vladdy retired? And now we have Ericsson coming up soon. Much better than watching Lebda skate around.
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Ericsson CAN actually fight though. Lilja's problem in fighting was he just never threw enough...or any at all. I see Ericsson as top 3 (at least) def in NHL. Question is - do you really want one of your TOP def in penalty box for 5 minutes, risk of injuries... No! That's one of the reason why 4TH LINE exist. No! That's one of the reason why 4TH LINE exist. As of right now, Ericsson is playing behind Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, and Stuart, who at this moment are all more capable of performing at the nhl level than him. If someone is going to start something, I don't see any reason why Ericsson can't finish it.

uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 ...except that he really isn't a very good fighter. Thats because hes only been fighting for a few years. And to be fair, he an OK fighter. Give him a few full seasons in the NHL and about 6 or 7 scraps a year and he'll be a solid middlewight in no time.
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted August 6, 2009 ...except that he really isn't a very good fighter. I would disagree with that on certain terms. He isn't a devastating puncher and isn't really a "mean" player so he has that working against him. However, he is super tall and often finds himself fighting middle weight guys who are 3-6 inches shorter than him. And he looks (to me anyway) as one of those types of players that isn't looking for a fight but understands the inherent dangers in it and when the gloves do come of is prepared to defend himself and make sure he isn't used as a punching bag like Lilja was. He'll be fine in the 2 or 3 fights he has this year.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Ericsson CAN actually fight though. Lilja's problem in fighting was he just never threw enough...or any at all. Souray and Boll would both destroy Ericsson. As would Chris Neil. Nice try, UK.

ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 Souray and Boll would both destroy Ericsson. As would Chris Neil. Nice try, UK. true, the biggest attribute I think Big Rig has is, that he seems to snap when he fights. They will grapple or push, E is hit, and then just snaps and starts swinging and ragdolling away. That works against people who don't fight very often, but he won't be doing that against experienced more solid guys. So he better really work on some boxing because he has been blessed as the new "enforcer" well him and our PP (which know will be manned with the cannon we call Williams.....) Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted August 6, 2009 It really sucks. Even if Lilja manages to come back he'll never get his snarl back because if he does he could get headaches again. it just really sucks, Ericsson and Lilja had such promise.

I agree 100% with what you typed - but the post I was responding to was: If someone is going to start something, I don't see any reason why Ericsson can't finish it. I see Ericsson as you do I think, a good all-around guy, willing to throw or eat a punch for his team when the situation dictates, and that's good, he should be that. I *don't* think that anyone who is expecting him to "finish" much of anything though. Edited August 7, 2009 by micah

numberthirtynine 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2009 I`ve been around a lot of concussed individuals and while tihs by no means makes me a medical expert, just from experience I would be shocked if he came back anytime before mid season. And if I had to guess I would say he will be out all season and likely will be the end of his career. I don`t see too many people predicting this sort of thing and I think it`s that not many of us want to believe it, but if he recovers from this enough to go out and be a defensive player like he was before, it`ll be a hell of a thing. Especially the way we like to be super careful with our players. At least there`s the positive of regaining what is it, 1.25 mil in salary.
