Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 The Helm, Dmac line in the playoffs in 08 was fun to watch. I was ecstatic when DMac got a goal against the Preds in game 2 of that series I believe. I remember his hatty against patty in 02 as well. I see Dmac in the same light as Ozzy. both will never receive the appreciation they truly deserve.
Hiei 192 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Y'know, the Quad City Mallards have come back to the U/IHL and could use a player... Otherwise, Put him to do On The Ice broadcasting (between the benches)
newfy 695 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Chose the right time to hang up the skates for good. Got his life back on track and got a cup out of the deal. 25 was always my favourite when he played (pre lockout)

titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Never! Enjoy! Cheers! To all others, no I cannot be reasoned with, I respect everone who loves McCarty, but I have never liked him. Do I repsect some of his "big" goals and "big" fights? Sure, still doesn't mean I have to like him... Goodbye Darren, you'll always have Grinder to fall back on....oh wait, you suck at that too.... Goodbye! Good Luck! Remember, you cannot file bankruptcy again for 8 years! Haha. Wow. You should definitely be on the frontline for whenever this board has to deal with Pens fans. Hiei 192 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 haha good idea. he would prolly get in a fight if he was between the benches. he could be our broadcaster/enforcer Bingo. Kenny doesn't have to sign him and no more is added to the cap, AND the Wings get an enforcer AND a new PBP man between the benches.

titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Larry Murphy better watch his back. Best of luck, Darren. I remember Murphy when he first started out back in 02-03 I think. Man... His enthusiasm was sooooooo dull compared to today.
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 McCarty, one of the most popular Wings ever. What else can you say? The guy never has to buy drinks anywhere in Detroit, or Michigan for that matter. He's a hero and I'm glad he got his life turned around before retiring. Hope he can get a gig with the Wings in the office or in the broadcast booth. I'd love to be listening to McCarty once Redmond retires for decades.

Otherwise, Put him to do On The Ice broadcasting (between the benches) yeah we still have zero players here in qc. actually wouldn't mind him since we don't have anyone. Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Chose the right time to hang up the skates for good. Got his life back on track and got a cup out of the deal. 25 was always my favourite when he played (pre lockout) The one thing that worries me is I'm not sure if he did. One of my father's co-workers saw him at MGM Grand shortly after the finals. The conversation they had didn't seem too great. Hopefully it was just for entertainment and his life is squared away. It would be horrible for him to fall in that hole again.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 Enjoyed McCarty's time here, and was thrilled to see him get a 2nd chance at the game and work towards cleaning up some of the bad things in his life, regardless of how little time or a role he might have had on the Wings on the ice the 2nd time around. :beerbuddy: to McCarty. And any haters regarding McCarty can f**k off. You may not like him which is fine and that won't change, but you also aren't going to change me telling you to f**k off either. P. Marlowe 748 Report post Posted August 24, 2009 A fan favourite like that could easily work in media. It would be weird to see him interviewing his ex-teammates. Maybe he could make the interviews more interesting. He had a great career. Too bad that he lost his legs during the last few years. The few games he played last season he just seemed to throw the puck away as soon as he got it as there was no way he could carry it anywhere.

Hmmmmm, didn't realize that just because someone put on the Wings sweater that I automtically have to like them or else I am not a fan of the entire team and a disgrace. So Claude Lemeuix becomes a Red Wing, I have to like him or I am not a fan? Chis PRonger? Cindy Lee Crosby? Another thing, if you remove McCarty from this team for his entire career, the Wings still win 4 Cups, so I don't know what your dillusions are about what he did for this team and city, what next, #25 to the rafters? McCarty in the Hall of Fame?

McCarty in the Hall of Fame? Yeah i dont know about that one. He played a pretty critical role in 96-97 and 97-98. If im not mistaken, he even got the game winner that won us the cup in 96-97 against the flyers. But even dispite his offensive ability, the guy DEFINETLY contributed to those two cups atleast. Take him off the team, you might lose the effectiveness of the whole grindline, which was in its prime and is a big reason why we were able to win those cups back then. Thats my opinion atleast. I could care less if you are a fan of Dmac or not, and im not weighing in on that, but i do think your last statement that i put in bold is a little absurd. McCarty in the Hall of Fame? The Wings have been looking for another McCarty for years -- he's that middleweight enforcer who could tangle with heavyweights, but was a good skater, solid defensively, could play the Wings puck-possession style of hockey and pitch in offensively with a knack for scoring clutch goals. A "Ra-Ra" type of leader and well-liked throughout the organization and a fan favorite. What on earth is not to like? I can only dream Abdelkader turns into half of the all-around player McCarty was.
