Darren McCarty Question

No. Dennis Rodman was, for a time, excelant at his choosen profession. McCarty never was. Rodman was an all-star over and over again - Mac not so much. Rodman will be remembered by basketball fans as one of the great rebounders of all time. Mac will not be remembered outside of Detroit for much of anything. Rodman's off-court antics were *sometimes* moderately ammusing - Grinder was just awful. Rodman had a truly great carreer and there really aren't any signs that he doesn't have his life under control today - McCarty had a *meh* carreer and is still, at 35 or however old he is - battling the same demons he had when he was 20.

Probert and McCarty would be a better comparison, though again, Probert will be remembered for being a relatively good player (former Red Wings playoff point record holder, one time All Starand a great fighter. McCarty will be forgotten because he was neither a very good player nor a great fighter.

Dennis Rodman's career will forever be forgotten by the stupid $hIT he did in his personal life.

What did he do?

I have to agree with earlier post that he was one of the best at getting rebounds. McCarty was not anything special in hockey.

I don't remember Rodman ever making an All-Star team, let alone over and over again.

The most important thing is that Rodman was a distraction to his team and always acted like a clown. Mac had some personal problems, but was always a team guy and not a distraction to the team.

Rodman was a mascot and a clown, albeit one who could rebound.

Clown? You don't know what you're talking about. He was a bride.

Do you think Darren McCarty is like Dennis Rodman?

They both score points, are retired, like hookers and booze.

I think they may both have tattoos too.

We all should get tatttoos

Not at all.

Both excelled in their roles to certain degrees obviously, but nobody will ever touch Rodman in terms of creating drama/attention to himself.

Rodman is a poster boy for being a freak show. If he liked it though, more power to him. He was one of the best in the biz in terms of defense, rebounding, but he was a freak sometimes as well.

Nobody can be comparable to Rodman.

Took long enough. And yet people are STILL posting.

Amazing.

The child thread is better than the parent thread.

Come on now. Rodman was a star player based only on his on-court abilities, probably a superstar. McCarty was a fine team guy but was not a star player, and was not particularily gifted at any part of the game. Rodman contributed in a very big and meaningful way to a few champion teams, Mac was along for the ride. I loved Mac, but he was nowhere near as valuable to the Wings as a Rodman was to his teams.

The real question is, who would win in a fight? I say Mac wins 7 out of 10, but they both lose 9 of 10 against Bill Laimbeer.

I think that Pavel is more like Darren and Kobe is more like Dennis.

I think this because Pavel and Darren both play hockey and Kobe and Dennis both play basketball.

Darren is like Dennis because they both start with a D, and have 6 letters, the middle two of which are doubled.

Noses are like feet because sometimes they both smell and run.

I have to agree with earlier post that he was one of the best at getting rebounds. McCarty was not anything special in hockey.

Example: Post #12, wrestling with Hulk Hogan, or Madonna's vertical smile. You take your pick. Joe Dumars will be remembered for basketball, Rodman will forever be a freak, and Jaleel White will always be Urkel. :P
