Anyone still depressed

Anyone still depressed about the last game?

I am.

Earlier today I tried to read an old Hockey News that was in a buddy of mine's office. I flipped through like two pages, saw that the Wings - Flyers game was upcoming, and I immediately put the magazine down and left his office. I just can't do it yet. I probably won't be right until the season starts. Heck if I wasn't deployed right now I probably still wouldn't be on this site until the start of the season. I haven't blogged. I haven't been on other sports sites' NHL pages. Virtually nothing related to sports.

Oddly enough though, I am reading The Game by Ken Dryden right now. That doesn't seem to effect me though. It's too far in the past, and it's not about the Wings. Even though there is the Scotty Bowman connection. I don't know, maybe that is just what I need right now. Everything else is just too much.

In terms of hockey, I'm not depressed - I'm just bored... Can't wait for the pre-season to kick off! I'm sure the 4 games against Philly and Toronto will be very passive...

Nope. Pittsburgh just evened the score. That is all. We had our win, had a chance at a second, and they got their win, instead.

New season, and we still OWN the Bestern Conference.

Not really depressed at all, I would have preferred a sweep then to be so close not to get it, but shortly after, it's like, so be it, what's done is done, it was a good year, let's look forward to next year. I generally don't think too much about hockey for a few weeks (except for around July 1st and few days after I pay close attention), take some more time off and then I really look forward to the upcoming season by the end of July, early August.

If I ever let something as silly and insignificant as professional sports get me depressed, I would immediately quit watching professional sports. I watch sports for joy, and I make the conscious choice to enjoy every minute of it. Believe it or not, I actually enjoy Franzen's cowardly dives, Maltby's chickens*** yapping from behind the linesman, and all of the other things I complain about. I make zero personal investment in my favorite sports teams, and I accept the players on my favorite team are just professional atheles, nothing more. Some are uniquly skilled, some are cowards, some are great, upright, honest men, some are scoundrels and drug addicts. They exist in my life only to entertain me, and when they quit doing so, I'll turn off the TV.

I'm fired up for the new season. We get to see Helm, Ericsson and Leino as regulars. And It will be interesting to see what Williams, Eaves and Bert can do.

And we also get to see a weaker Aneheim without Pronger and Beauchamin. Chicago is going to fall apart thanks to Huet and best of all the Pens are going to struggle to make the playoffs.

The only thing even close to being so much fun is going to be watching UM have another losing record AND Rich Rod get thrown out on his ass after the NCAA penalizes UofM by taking away some scholarships.

Depressed? no. Bored that this off-season seems 5 times longer than last years? Hell yes!

Having said that, Game 7 sat unwatched on my hard drive for over a month (work prevented me from watching it live). In the end, I had to force myself to watch it, just so that I had seen it. Then spent a day wishing Kronwalls shot was 1cm lower, or Lidstrom had scuffed his shot along the ice :ranting:

But once the season starts, I shall probably be depressed by the Crosby hype, which will be at levels of hysteria beyond that previously seen - if such a thing were possible.

i was over it, until yesterday......... someone my mom works with went to game 7 because they some how got tickets. Anyways they knew I was a huge wings fan so they mailed my mom the game 7 towel everyone got and she gave me the towel yesterday. mom called me and said she had something for me, i didn't know what it was, so i get it and open the envelope and out pops this towel with a wings logo with game 7 written on it. So yeah I got that heart ripped out of my chest feeling I had as the clock hit zero in game 7..... <_<

The pain that I feel will ALWAYS be around. Even if Detroit won the next 5 Cups in a row it wouldn't make me feel better about the last game. It's now a permanent scar on my heart, you can't get to Game 7 for the Cup and only be 2 goals away from Winning it in Back To Back Situations and not get it done and not have it effect you long-term ( or me in my case). It's something I'll always think about I still think about it at least once a day. I'm excited for the new season coming but the pain will never go away for me. So yes I'm still depressed. I'm depressed for last season but excited and hopeful for the coming season.

Hell yes.

I still think about the game every day wishing for a different outcome and still feel embarassed about losing on our home ice like that. We could be going for 3 Cups in a row right now, which would be very special.

I'm also getting depressed about possibly not being able to watch hockey at all next year with this DirecTV business.

I'm not depressed but I'm not over it either.. I still have a hard time seeing pictures and videos of the pens winning and pens players with the cup. It was too close and painful for me to just see a picture of sidney with the cup and think "well done is done. see you next season". :(

Nah, not depressed. It stung for a few days after game 7, but then you look back and realize there was nothing to be ashamed of with the Red Wings. I am still proud of them -- they overcame so many bad circumstances (injuries, schedule) to even get to the Stanley Cup Final was a hell of an accomplishment. The Penguins had everything aligned for them similar to the Red Wings in 2008. I think we all know had the Red Wings been healthy, we would be talking about a possible three-peat right now.

This.

Every time I see a picture of the Penguins celebrating their Cup from last season, I will remember that it could have been the Wings. That being said, I still look forward to the next season. At least we will still be competitive for a while; talking to a Habs fan helped to put that in perspective :hehe:
