Shaman 713 Report post Posted October 20, 2011 I guess under the rules it's a boarding call, but Mitch didn't even push, looked like he bumped him It always seems like the huge hits that should kill the person result in a bruise and the stupid little bumps are what cause injuries. The point is no matter what he shouldn't have hit him numbers parallel to the glass.

He should have not made that hit and the guy he hit should have not been an idiot and put himself in that position. Both were at fault, so I'm not too upset with the suspension. No doubt the other guy knew Mitch was behind him and a hit was likely, but anyone who wants to play in the NHL should know when to make the big hits and when to let off. newfy 695 Report post Posted November 25, 2011 Callahan with his first goal tonight and also with a scrap against Fitzgerald. Yup he got the better of a bigger fighter too. I think a lot of people think Callahan is going to be a small agitator type like Steve Ott when in reality this kid looks more like a Chris Neil, Darren Mccarty type. He wont be fighting the hugest guys in the league but would probably do ok against a lot of them. WHen he makes the NHL he'll be talked about as one of, if not the toughest pound for pound player in the league while being able to skate a regular shift 1 redwingfan19 reacted to this
DSM 114 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 Surprised there isn't any recent discussion in here. I think Callahan has developed well beyond expectations and deserves to be first in line for an extended call up when the Wings need another forward. 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
krsmith17 7,191 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 I think Andersson needs to be shipped out now, and Callahan called up to replace him on the 4th line... 1 DSM reacted to this
DSM 114 Report post Posted December 11, 2014 (edited) I think Andersson needs to be shipped out now, and Callahan called up to replace him on the 4th line...I agree. Callahan has always had the ability and mindset to play a gritty bottom six role, but just needed to add some polish to his game with the puck. At the AHL level, he's performed on par and even exceeded the production of skilled players the Wings have attempted to "mold" into gritty bottom six guys. Guys like Kopecky, Ritola, Mursak, Emmerton, Nestrasil and now Andersson.I can see Callahan filling a role similar to what Drake and McCarty brought during the run to the 2008 Cup. A role that is pretty much vacant at this point... Edited December 11, 2014 by DSM 1 krsmith17 reacted to this
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted April 30, 2016 Poor Mitch. Was on the road to good things until he blew his ACL. Not really been the same player since.
Keep Your Stick On the Ice 67 Report post Posted May 13, 2017 Anyone seen him in action in 2017 AHL Playoffs? Cuz like the rest of the team he appears to be kicking ass.

ChristopherReevesLegs 7,022 Report post Posted June 20, 2017 Unfortunately Mitch has what us 9 to 5 folks call "a battle with the bottle". Hes been let go, and unfortunately his stock was never high enough to get clean and make the NHL again like Kassian did. These are the risks you take with the mccarty types. Among other things, he passed out drunk in the Griffins lockerroom and also got smashed in Royal Oak the night before his first game with the Wings and the team found out. I have friends that work with and spend time outside of work with his girlfriend (she's probably an ex now)
