Jwo 7 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Rumors are flying around that Comcast is going to buy NBC. With Comcast owning VS and perhaps in the future NBC, they could start showing more games on NBC (National over the air channel) or just keep it how the Hockey games now on NBC & VS? http://www.usatoday.com/money/media/2009-1...universal_N.htm Edited October 2, 2009 by Jwo

Theophany 110 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 If they do it, I bet it gets done before the Olympics. $$$ Definitely. The Olympics (especially being only 1 hour ahead of EST) will bring in huge amounts of money. Either way, I doubt it changes much for us.
CenterIce 83 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 From what I was reading, Comcast would be taking a controlling interest, not an outright buy. It might be good for the NHL, but who knows with Comcast.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Might be good for Comcast, but as far as DirecTV/Dish/Charter/U-Verse/etc subscribers are concerned? Probably should wait and see. Edited October 2, 2009 by Shoreline

LeftWinger 5,130 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 so I guess that would mean DirecTV would stop broadcasting all NBC channels then right?
Vladinator 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2009 Comcast is, in my opinion (based on my experiences dealing with them), one of the worst corporations in the world...so (again in my opinion) this can only end bad.

CenterIce 83 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 From what I just read, if the deal goes through, all the Comcast and NBC Universal TV networks would be spun off into a NBC Universal Group (51 percent owned by Comcast). Just like all TV deals, nothing changes until the individual network contracts run out. It does make it easier to have NBC Universal content on Comcast, since they would own it. auxlepli 17 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 In my opinion it's a good thing. Anything that keeps the NHL off the Mickey Mouse networks is a good thing.
Vladinator 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 In my opinion it's a good thing. Anything that keeps the NHL off the Mickey Mouse networks is a good thing. Lets not forget that Comcast owns the Mickey Mouse network that the NHL is currently under contract with... Comcast buying NBC will not get them off of VS... I think the "MIckey Mouse" network response was more of a cut at Comcast being a sub-par network, not that they were owned by Disney, which was the original intent of the first comment. At least that's the way I interpretted it. Regs, Jeff

Fatal 1 Report post Posted October 3, 2009 (edited) http://www.cjr.org/resources/index.php?c=comcast Comcast owns VS, which is a Mickey Mouse network. This doesn't mean that Disney is involved...it's like when Gretzky called the Devils a Mickey Mouse Franchise... The deal they are trying to work with NBC is not structured like you think. Comcast would put all of their channels in to the NBCU family. This will raise the production values of the Comcast channels. What Comcast is looking for is distribution rights, including the part ownership of Hulu. If anything, you will see better channels available and a large increase of Internet content (Hulu/TvEverywhere). If done correctly.
