[GDT] 10/3 - Red Wings, 3 @ Blues, 5 (Stockholm)

I do feel bad for the Wings because they had the Swedish crowd cheering for them and they blew two games that they should of won. They went all the way to Sweden and could not win a game for their family and friends.

Yeah this is a huge surprise for me to see our swedes not playing their hearts out. It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them to show family and friends (and they brought many!) in their home country what they're made of, on this team, in person. Instead, our swedes either seemed intimidated by this, or completely indifferent. For example, I wouldn't have guessed that Franzen would be largely invisible in Sweden, like he was.

we don't have the offense this year to play the kind of defense we did last year

mccrimmon needs to go. i don't know if he's the problem or not, but this is the same team we saw last year with less firepower. they need some sort of shake up, because we don't have to offense to bail out s*** goal-tending and defense all year long.

Agreed. The team's defensive system needs a change. We even saw glimpses of this in the färjestads preseason game. And they're not even on the same level. Many thought McCrimmon would be gone this summer, and unfortunately he stayed. Its still very early, and now is the time to make a change when its evident that it needs to be done.

they have been lucky also

You have to be lucky to win.

Detroit was lucky in the two games as well.

On Ericsson's goal in the first game, McCreary got in Polak's way and even grabbed onto him as Polak was skating with Draper. That allowed Draper to skate in on Mason before Ericsson put in the rebound.

I think you can call Holmstrom's goal in game #2 fairly lucky as well.

Just sayin'.

You could have gotten away with 'good'. 'Very good'?

Uh, no. The Wings lost these games, the Blues didn't win them.

Checking the scoreboard. I'm pretty sure the Blues won them.

Aside from the score, the Wings had a 2-0 lead today and what, a 3-0 lead yesterday in the first period, and the blues came from behind both times. It's not like the Wings scored 4 own goals to lose the game.

They got outplayed.

Don't be a sore loser.

The Wings dominated early in both games, but the Blues held them off and weathered the storm. They then regrouped and took the play to the Wings and came from behind in both games.

The Blues earned both of these victories. And yes, the Blues will be very good this year if they get the goaltending. And so far so good with the goaltending.

Congrats cprice, it looks like the Blues under Davidson's control are going to be a real player in the division again. Good, maybe this will light a fire under Hollands ass to get younger.

My point was that the Wings (for the most part) stopped playing hard after scoring 2 or three goals in each game and sat back and watched.

They needed a fight or someone to get Kronwalled to get some fire going.

To be completely honest, we need the following lines:

Z/Dats/Homer

Cleary/Fil/Mule

Leino/Helm/Williams

Draper/Abby/Maltby

Or switch Helm and Fil to keep line 3 together, because they've been great. Bertuzzi is worse than worthless out there, he's done next to nothing. Seriously, does ANYONE have a problem with keeping Abby up to get Bert the f*** out of the lineup when Helm is back?

Nope. Watch the replay. I did a few times. After McCreary gets in Polak's way, he grabs onto Polak's jersey to try and stop from falling down.

Our whole group that was watching the game was talking about it and how stupid that was.

I seriously doubt the Wings "stopped trying".

Don't forget, there was another team on the ice that had a lot to do with how well Detroit was able to execute.

You obviously weren't watching the first period versus the rest of the game.

The energy was gone as soon as the Blues netted their first goal. That's something that should never happen to an experienced team like the Wings.

Yes, the Blues were the better team and deserved to win both games. Now try showing up after a loss some time.

Then, apply this principle to whole other teams. This is a professional sport and the players SHOULD play hard to win the game. The Blues were just better teams than the Wings since the 2nd period. Same trend as yesterday. It is not Blues should be hungry while te Wings are not. If what you are saying is the correct case, the Wings' players should be punched to wake up

To be fair, Red Wings made a lot of changes this off season and have yet to gel. The Wings have only brought their 'A' game for the first 20 minutes then played not to lose... that's not a hungry Red Wings team, and like I said, they are still sleeping from the offseason. I think the long three years going deep in the playoffs is finally catching up to them. I hope Lidstrom and Babcock turn it around quickly.

Playing not to lose isn't a way to win. Detroit sat back and let the Blues gain momentum. I agree the Blues are a better team than the Panthers and Islander and etc... But they're not a cup contender *yet*. They don't have the experience or the depth.

Respect the Blues, they are finally not in the class of Islanders anymore. Now if Wings just wake up and realize that vacation is over and win some games... LGW can stop panicking like a bunch of prissy little school girls with their panties in a bunch.

 If Helm's our second line centre we're f***ed. He's not a top six kid. Sorry.

And last but not least-- Abby won't replace Bert in the line-up. Bert was brought in for a reason and he certainly hasn't been that terrible so far. Abby will by in GR on the 1st line getting 20 mins a night and developing like he should be. No point in keeping him here to play 5 mins a night.

What the hell are people watching? Complaining about Bertuzzi? He is playing fine. Holmstrom is the one that needs to be out of the top 6, he is ruining everything Franzen and Datysuk try to do.

Agree, Bertuzzi is doing fine and I like the play he is doing so far. I think guys need to step it up though a bit more or we could be seeing a lot of L.

While a lot can be said for players needing to find chemistry and find their roles....we still should've won at least one game on talent alone. It's the same attitude we saw last year, and I think it's a coaching issue. I trust Babcock too much to say it's him, so McCrimmon has got to be the problem. He's the only real change right before the s***fest that is our defense happened.

A back end with Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall and Stuart should NOT be asleep at the wheel. They should be dominating and shutting down the opposition night in and night out.

And yes, it's time to combine Datsyuk and Zetterberg. The argument for depth doesn't matter this early in the season. We should be giving the kids and Flip as mcuh chance as possible to find new roles and responsibiltiies for themselves.

Bert and Zetterberg have no chemistry. I think it's time to try Bert one the 3rd line, which will be called our 2nd line because Zetterberg will be Dats and Franzen.

Flip leino bert all together on line sounds like something to try. Maybe try Williams in there. Willy has been very impressive with the puck...
