Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 Babcock thought he looked pretty good. I think the thing I've noticed the most is his speed is back. A lot of the reason things didn't work out was because the chemistry isn't there yet. If he happens to develop some with Z & D, watch out. His biggest issue right now is turnovers. But as far as the whole package, he's quicker, goes to the net more and has surprisingly played well defensively. I don't think you can ask for much for at 1.5mil. I just wish he'd get a little more agressive, but what can you do?
waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 Hes an awesome hockey player. Whats the debate? How can he look like Lang in any way?
hoogs 8 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 Some people are blind, it even stated in that article linked above that he has to watch his turnovers, he is tied with the most on the team.
DatsyukownzU13 1 Report post Posted October 12, 2009 If they mesh it would be great to be able to throw a top 6 consisting of this for the playoffs: Datsyuk - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi Leino - Filppula - Franzen That's a lot of talent and a good mixture of speed and size on each line. That's a pretty sick top 6, and having a 3rd line of Williams-Helm-Cleary isnt too shabby either.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 When your own coach is giving you kudos for your play, I don't know how that can be lazy/sucking. I don't think anybody is going to say that Bertuzzi is the power forward he was during most of his Vancouver days anymore, sure he hasn't quite produced on the main score sheet yet, but he's looked far from lazy/sucking out there so far. dobbles 252 Report post Posted October 13, 2009 what do you expect babcock to say? think he is just going to throw him under the bus or something? i certainly respect the opposing opinion that bertuzzi is good (though i don't agree with it) but we might as well ask bertuzzi's mom for her unbiased opinion of todd's play. i honestly don't put a lot of weight onto babcocks comments; not because i don't trust him, but because there's only so much you can say about a guy you have to have around for the next 78 games. also getting back to something that was talked about regarding bertuzzi putting up 44 points last year... the actual thread is comparing him to robert lang; lang put up 52 and 62 points in his 2 full seasons here. but fact remains that with all those points, he was generally disliked by fans. its the same thing we see with many players. just because a guy can put points on the board doesn't mean he will be liked, or that he plays good defense, or that he isn't a turnover machine. will be interesting to see how the season goes for bertuzzi and how the fans continue to react. Cruiser008 37 Report post Posted October 14, 2009 What I noticed is that: 1. He isn't using his big body, isn't forechecking nor finish checks, did the moore inncident destroy him inside? THIS. He doesn't check anymore, period. He may not be a lazy bum but he is softer than cream puffs. Bertuzzi is soft and he blows

HE IS GETTING PAID 1.5 MILLION IT'S A SALARY CAP LEAGUE NOT EVERY PLAYER CAN BE CAM GOD DAMN NEELY. You are an awful fan and should change your ignorant views on hockey before you make the mistake of looking like a clueless 5 year old trying to figure out how to scoop ice cream for the first time and realzing ITS REALLY *($&)^$ COLD. *I blame the rant on the Sabre game*

I didn't know this lifelong fan was such a '5 year old'... I'm simply stating that Bertuzzi hits less than any player on the Wings, and that includes at least 4 guys who are making under $1 million. He's here to play hockey he hasn't been able to throw his weight around physically because of his back, he still uses his size to his advantage around the net, and is a very good play maker. Sure he might not put himself out of position and risk an injury every play to get a hit statistic, but he still fills a role on this team and has been one of the few Red Wing's to actually be playing what could be considered as decent hockey so far this season. b.shanafan14 733 Report post Posted October 14, 2009 Bertuzzi is definitely Lazy and he Sucks. Say all you want about his salary, but maybe his salary is indicative of something else: he is lazy and he sucks. That doesn't mean throw him on the first line, it means skate him on the 3rd. Homer, poor old, beat up, slow Homer made Bertuzzi look like an AHLer when he finally got bumped back to the 1st line.

But people didn't get personnally insulted for saying Ozzie sucked last year, or for trademarking Lang and Lazy etc...! It's ok I know people get upset and need to let off some steam when our team gets their butts hand to them.

The back problems are certainly a valid point, and Bertuzzi has had his fair share of crosschecks (culprits include Chelios). I guess as long as he saves his aggression for the playoffs I can live with it.

Exactly, I couldn't beleive how good Homer looked last night after Bert was demoted back to the 3rd line.......seriously night and day. The main problem with Bert on the first line was that he was floating all over the place, whereas Homer just screens the goalie and lets Dats and Zetts work their magic. I saw Bert floating near the ******* blue line on one play while the puck was loose in front of the net! WTF! I think he got a little too intent on making good defensive plays and forgot that he needs to score as well.

AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 I would love to see him bury one to get him off the schneid though. They dropped a stat tonight that he has not scored a goal since March 1. That has got to be weighing him down.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 Bertuzzi's performance tonight = /thread. Particularly in the 3rd period, he looked great out there. Ehhhhh I still think he can pick his game up a couple more levels (not to say that he's the next Lang or anything). He has been playing pretty well defensively, and created a couple opportunities, but there were a number of occasions where he gave the puck away, or seemed a bit out of place. Its not something that I think isn't fixable over a bit of time and more experience with some regular linemates, but I still think he can be better.
Lamothe 5 Report post Posted October 16, 2009 (edited) I think "The Paralyzer" has played well so far. He's not who he was a few years ago, but he's better than he's been in the past few. His defensive game has picked up, and once he gets more comfortable I think his offense will, too. Edited October 16, 2009 by Lamothe
