waitahochiminute 2 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Hey look at that! His 50th shutout! My only reason for rubbing this in is because I counted about 4 or 5 threads aimed at coming up with a outlandish way to trade away osgood this year. Way to go over demanding fans! Just got back from the game. What a win. Osgood was very solid. Lucky a number of times but good nonetheless.
The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Osgood's strong performances against Calgary and Boston is exactly the type of play the Red Wings will require from him in order to compete this season. With any luck, we'll see a little more of that over his next handful of starts.
Bad Vlad Forever 1 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 he's still unreliable and inconsistent. you take the good with the bad
skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 He needs to play like he did in the last two games consistently and then I will feel comfortable with him in net. You never know what Osgood you are going to get night-to-night so obviously a lot of people feel uneasy about having him as our main goalie with the backup as unreliable as our starter. Not to take away from Howard who was pretty stellar in his past couple starts.
vOrophin 5 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 We really don't need a new Osgood thread after every game. After wins it is always "why would anyone want to get rid of him" and a loss is always "we need a new goalie." Can we just have 1 thread/sticky, call it the Osgood ferris wheel, and watch as it goes up and down, around and around game after game?

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 As of now he has better numbers than Luongo. The ebb and flow of Chris Osgood's status on LGW's never ceases to humor me. I'm all about placing bets in a sticky thread. I think I'd win a lot of money from the many of the tiny-minded haters...

This is applicable to everything Red Wings, probably down to merchandising. How about calling it the The Red Wings Ferris Juggernaut?

SDavis35 140 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 This ferris wheel sounds like fun... let's do it! While I've never thought Oz was "bad" I do believe he needs more time before I'll let it stand as an "outstanding" starter. I feel as though there was definitely something that happened during that stretch of being pulled and losing a start to Howard. Babcock has really impressed me this year. I hope Osgood remembers that feeling for the entire season, being pulled after 4 shots is not fun.

ltgator333 3 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Didn't want to anyway, but, he does need to have a few more games like the last two during the course of the regular season if this team's going to make it to the post-season this year. He still needs to finish the regular season with numbers as good or better than what he has as of today I think. I'm glad he (more importantly, the team) got the shutout, now was the perfect time for that I think.

Pucks 66 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Yes. Even more when I see these threads. Or when people want to compare him with luongo. Those same people should call up Yzerman and let him know that he should be the starter for team Canada since he's the best goalie to ever live.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Just like not panicking after a few bad games, a few very strong games is nothing to get excited about, not yet. If he keeps it up, then yeah get excited.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) ^ This x 1000 sadly. Sad but true. To the Ducks? Who would you trade him for/what should the Wings get in return? I love Ozzy, but I'd trade him to the Ducks for Hiller. Sorry Chris but the return is too good Edited November 4, 2009 by Drake_Marcus
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Statistically he is at 2.74 GAA and 902 SV%. Let's see if Ozzie can trim that GAA down to 2.2 or 2.3 and get SV% up to .91 or .92. He doesn't need to be leading goalie in the NHL but somewhere in the top 10 means our team will have a consistent record.
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Let me be the first to say I have ZERO interest in trading Ozzie, and I am one of his biggest critics. Quite frankly we will not find a starting goaltender with cup experience for his price. Period. End of discussion. His price also makes him untradeable, because quite frankly most of the goaltenders worth trading for, are out of our price range, and I have no interest in rolling the dice on an unproven goalie with a years work of decent play on his resume (see Hiller's play of late... or Jim Carrey, Irbe, Kipper, or any of the other dozens of "Elites" who have gone from Hero to Zero in a week, and simply get by on reputation more than actual performance). My fear lies more with the fact that he has zero competition for the starting job, and if something happens... like Osgood playing poorly or going down with an injury... we do not have a backup that has given any indications of being able to handle the pressure and workload necessary to start in the NHL... Howard has had a few decent games, and I'm not at a point where I feel we should give up on him, but conversely he hasn't given me any reason to believe that he's going to work out... and I certainly wouldn't be comfortable having him in net for a cup run. Also, yes, Osgood's only allowed one goal in two games (with the help of a number of posts), but he is still among the worst in save percentage and GAA... It's still quite premature to start declaring a return to form.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Two good games is hardly enough to convince me that his woes of earlier this season and ALL of last season are gone. I dont see how this thread is any different than ozzie panic threads. Also, i dont think anyone realistically thought ozzie would get traded, and not many people were even posting that. i believe the majority of the 'panic' people wanted to trade for a reliable backup to ozzie, which I still believe the wings should look into, but alas, they probably wont. Great to see ozzie get some good games behind him, and lets hope he keeps it up.

Way to go over demanding fans! just because he has had a few good games doesn't mean he's god's gift to goalies. calm down. in this last game he still looked a little slow to me. if not for the post and unlucky shots the score would have been different. not saying i don't like ozzie cause i do but dont start with he;s the best goalie in the league and all that crap. he has been very inconsistent. lets get further into the season with him playing good and then we can all jump up and down.
