Rivalred 630 Report post Posted November 7, 2009 Just not sure if there is a spot on the Wings for him... Same as Janik... That is my questions and or concern... Will either ever be a mainstay in the NHL?

The Wings do have a tendency to bring in seasoned players...
skacore 2 Report post Posted November 7, 2009 Yes, because I have ever insinuated that stats over a handful of games mean a player will continue to perform that way over an entire season. Jackass. that's gotta be a joke LOL

Wing Across The Pond 196 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 I sure hope so. It would be what we needed. And hope Williams gets better soon on that note too, he's not been too bad really.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 From MLive Update 9:35 PM: Jason Williams has a broken right leg. Per the Red Wings and Fox Sports Detroit's Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond. I would gather that the Wings will either call up Jeremy Williams, Kris Newbury, or Jamie Tardif from Grand Rapids to replace Williams. Seems a very real possibility! newfy 695 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope they don't call up Williams, an AHL goal scorer who hasnt really been scoring isn't what this team needs. Tardif is outscoring him and brings grit. I would rather Tardif but wouldn't mind seeing Newbury up either.

newfy 695 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 Grit is irrelevant... We have enough of it on this team. Its hockey, you can never have enough grit. Especially when the gritty player has earned a call up by scoring just as much as anyone else on the farm team and providing leadership as the captain. So yes, in this case grit is relevant. russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted November 8, 2009 http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/11/ke...s_will_not.html Tardif will not be called up...nobody will. Meech going as 13th/7th yet again Call ups could be made if somebody gets a day-to-day or the flu, and Tardif is in the mix again then, but will not replace Williams on the roster. William's 7 goals are more than Tardif's 5....but I'm assuming timing has an issue to do with this (I haven't followed the Griffins on a day to day basis, so I suspect William's must have had a big game in the last game. I think there is a reason Tardif hasn't played a single game in the NHL and he's almost 25 years old.
egroen 384 Report post Posted November 9, 2009 I'd be for bringing up Jeremy Williams -- the team desperately needs a goal scorer and that's about all Williams is good for. 7 goals in 12 games in the AHL and last year he put up 5 goals in 11 games in the NHL last year. Let him float all he wants - the Wings just need someone who can bury the puck right now.

I don't disagree that he'd be useful in the short term, but I'm a firm believer in letting the team we have now sink or swim. Right now they're doing well with a very depleted line-up. They'll only get better once the injured players get back. Adding more AHL players isn't a long term solution since they'll just be going back down soon enough. With 3 rookie forwards, 1 rookie defenseman and 1 rookie goalie we've got our fill of guys with little to no NHL experience.
uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 Good article on Jamie: GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — When Jamie Tardif speaks about leadership, he mentions his father Marc and former teammate and fellow Wellander Matt Ellis. Marc was the former general manager of the Welland Junior Canadians and was basically in charge of the on-ice operations for the junior B hockey team, while Ellis, who is now a member of the Buffalo Sabres, served as captain of the Grand Rapids Griffins and is somebody Tardif admires. Tardif says he too is a leader — someone who thrives in that role and accepts the responsibilities it brings. "I have that trait in me, that quality, that leadership," Tardif told The Tribune. "No matter where I've been, I've always been looked up to. I love to be that leader — lead guys by example, on and off the ice." "It's something that over time I acquired. I've had a lot of good captains in my day: Matt Ellis from Welland, last year playing with guys like Aaron Downey, Darren McCarty, learning so much from those guys." And of course, his father. "A lot of it comes from family. The way I was raised, my father played hockey. The leadership qualities that he has I see a lot in myself — I'm getting older you start to understand things better." So it's fitting that the former captain of the OHL's Peterborough Petes was named the captain of the American Hockey League's Griffins, which is the top farm team of the Detroit Red Wings. It was earlier this season when Grand Rapids head coach Curt Fraser walked into the dressing room and announced that the 24-year-old from Welland, would wear the 'C' on his jersey. "He didn't give me any heads up at all, so it was a surprise to me as well. It's a good honour, that's for sure," he said. "It was definitely in the back of my head coming into the season. If you look at our roster we have guys with a lot of experience in this league and the NHL. I really didn't know what was going on, I was hoping for it. "It's good to get that recognition from the coaches." With veteran hockey professionals such as Kris Newbury, Andy Delmore and Michael Nylander on the roster, Tardif said there's plenty of leadership on the team. And just because he's now the captain doesn't mean others can't take a leadership roles as well. "There's definitely a lot of respect there, it goes both ways. I still look up to them, I respect them," said Tardif, in his fourth year with the Detroit organization. Tardif is leading the charge in Grand Rapids with hopes of making a long playoff run and trying to get more fans in the seats at their homes games at Van Andel Arena. The captain admits filling those seats is a challenge, but college students and Friday nights help greatly. For Friday home games, the Griffins have a promotion where they offer beer and hot dogs for $1 each. Students seem to love it. "They are drunk by the second period," he said. Even with him carrying the 'C', Tardif hasn't lost sight of his ultimate goal: getting called up by the Red Wings. Tardif, who was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round, 112th overall, in the 2003 entry draft, hasn't played an NHL game yet, and some might say he won't as long as the Red Wings continue to be a competitive club and contend for the Stanley Cup. Tardif admits it's not easy to get called up to Detroit and he needs to be in the right place at the right time to get a promotion to the big league.
Jesusberg 1,256 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 I'm not going to lie, I would eventually like to see Tardif in the line-up. I don't think this is the year for it, though. Maybe next season carrying him as a 12th/13th forward could work out. As much as it's cool that May drops the gloves, I just feel like he does it at the worst times. There's pressure in the offensive zone and he decides to just throw down? I much preferred Downey's fighting style, but also hated his speed. May is much better at puck cycling as well. It'd be nice if we could find an enforcer who would be a hybrid of the two. Who knows how much longer guys like Maltby, Draper and Holmstrom will be around. Williams, Bert and May are on one-year deals as well. That could open up some room for a guy like Tardif. I'd be a little nostalgic to see that #25 on the back of an enforcer again. Sadly, I think the team will end up letting him go and he'll find someone else to play.
Guest E_S_A_D Report post Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) Tardif isnt an enforcer. Just going to make that clear. He can fight and stick up for teammates, but hes definately more dimentional than that. He also plays the Holmstrom role screening the net on the powerplay, and is on the PK unit. I love how the new generation kids immediately go to 'well, lets bring up Williams instead'. They immediately start attacking Tardif because he may; God forbid, *wait for it......* stick up for himself and/or teammates. newfy 695 Report post Posted November 14, 2009 The season after this one should be Jaime's year to get a shot with the big club. Hopefully Maltby and Homer will hang up the skates ( how much can Homer's body take honestly) and give guys like Tardif a shot. May will probably be gone and Tardif can fill that role. They immediately start attacking Tardif because he may; God forbid, *wait for it......* stick up for himself and/or teammates. God forbid they are more than one dimensional space wasters, and are better left in Grand Rapids (not necessarily Tardif), because there are players better suited for the holes in the wings roster right now. Right now the Wings have a lot of good 3rd/4th liners, but we lack real 1st/2nd liners. I dont see what need that players like Tardif fulfills on the wings roster right now.
