Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 At least they took action.. 5 games is 5 games. Kudos to the league.. They FINALLY got one right!
Guest micah Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Appropriate suspension. Nice job, league. Dumb move, Laraque. Get well soon, Kronwall!
ILoveKris 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 I Love how in post game interviews on Saturday he said he wasn't worried because the 4 refs (?) didnt' call it. Someone should tell him that there are only 2 refs on the ice in a game. Just sayin.
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 He probably would have been a healthy scratch for 5 games anyways for being such a moron on the ice... it's really basically an empty gesture by the league... I just wish they'd once take a stand against this crap by giving one of these glorified goons a suspension with some backbone.

The Wings are, as they would be anyways, the biggest losers in this disaster.
sixer 37 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Given it's Laraque, should have been 20 games.

I think this was a good call by the NHL. 5 games is nothing to laugh at. That's a real suspension. As much as I hate Bettman and disagree with the NHL sometimes, I think for the most part they're good with suspensions, including this one.
henrik40 76 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 From what I read, Canadiens fans are just as happy to see him suspended as Wings fans are. They think he's the biggest waste of money (and they're right) along with some others they have on that squad.

For Joe Thorton, 5 games is a lot... for a guy who's sole asset is hurting people, and who probably wouldn't be dressed for a while anyways, it is again, an empty gesture. Laraque knew what he was doing. I can see exactly what he's saying. Laraque doesn't care as much as we think.

Shaman 713 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 what needs to be done to stop plays like this is mirror suspensions, if you put a player out on a dumb play like that, you are out till the player who was injured plays again, it will drop rates of these kinda plays. Guest zackmorris Report post Posted November 24, 2009 (edited) And you know this how? 5 games is appropriate. Irresponsible move by Laraque, but no one can judge that there was malicious intent. I said he knew what he was doing. I don't care if it was malicious, that's part of being a responsible adult who possesses the ability to severely hurt another. There are 82 games in a season, like Laraque gives a s*** about 5 of them. What's he missing? A total of 20 minutes of play? You wanna know why players keep doing this? Because make no mistake, he could've avoided it altogether-because players get little wrist slaps and little fines and no one is scared. If the punishments were harsher, players would pull this bulls*** less and we'd be a healthier league overall. Edited November 24, 2009 by zackmorris

I was going to say this. If it's deemed intentional without a doubt, send them out until the other person gets back.
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 Excellent. I hope he slips on the ice in the parking lot in Montréal somewhere and breaks his knee. On Christmas day.
Hockeytown_Ryan 122 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 At least they took action.. 5 games is 5 games. Kudos to the league.. They FINALLY got one right! Id Like to add on to my previous comment here... I Think maybe a game or 2 more should of been tacked on.. He did play like a douchebag that shift.. he did smack Helm inthe face (worth a double minor) and then hit Kronner with that knee on knee before the whistle could be blown.. given he went out there with the purpose to end someones night......he should maybe have been given a little more harsh a penalty.. He is losing 38,000 + tho..(Big Whoop- He wanted a vacation)
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 this is far from an original thought, but I think Laraque should sit out as long as Kronner is out. An eye for an eye -- or knee, in this case. Seriously, they lose Laraque for as long as we lose Kronwall. I am glad he got five, it's better than nothing, I guess.

cmonster 11 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 I think the suspension is "fair". And I use that term loosely. The difficulty that most people are going to have with this suspension is that Montreal loses a goon scrub for 5 games. Someone who on more nights than not is going to be a healthy scratch anyway. Detroit loses its #2 defensemen for 4-8 weeks. Roughly 12-20 games. I am just speculating on that number btw. Don't know the exact number, but you get the point. We lose a #2 defenseman for 12-20 games and Montreal loses a goon scrub like Laraque for 5. The value just doesn't seem equal.
skyphoenix 153 Report post Posted November 24, 2009 This actually helps the Habs. They should have made Laraque play 20 minutes a night for the rest of the season.
