Crosby hurting Pens?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Personally I am not a fan of Crosby and I wasn't a fan of his long before the Wings ever clashed with him int he playoffs. That said, he is one of the premier players in the league. Like him or hate him you can't deny his skill. His penalties are clearly a concern and so his is lack of PP production. The biggest issue simply is that he isn't producing at his normal rate. His current production is good, you can never really argue with approx a pt per game but ppl have come to expect more from him in terms of production.

It is interesting to consider how the Penguins do when Malkin is injured compared to when Crosby is injured. There is a lot to be said about having two similar top line centremen on one team. Would the Pens be better off without Crosby? Most likely not. But then again it all depends on the type of return they would get for him. Would the Quebec Nordiques have been better off without Lindros? Clearly...just ask Peter Forsberg. So it's all relative and it depends on your perspective. But by no means does Crosby hurt the Penguins. His overall benefits far outweigh any short comings.

That article is extreme but it could have some truth to it. Crosby himself isn't hurting team. But his bloated salary certainly is. $9 million dollars for Crosby? If Crosby's worth is really $9 million, then Zetterberg and Dats should be making $9+ million /yr.

Penguins are paying 2 - 2.5 million more because of all the 'hype' he gets. Crosby is overrated big time. But I'd take him on this team for the price of one Hossa or Lidstrom.

Crosby's not hurting the Pens, his value-vs-salary is. He's overpaid.

Bingo. If I pay my captain 9 mil, I want a true leader, not a child with a bloated sense of entitlement. I want a true defensive two way forward, who can adapt to his opponents. It sounds more like I just described Z than Crosby. And we're getting our guy for over 2 mil less per year.

It's all about salary nowadays.

What that is a legitimate concern of mine. Why would they leave off a statisic category as vital as Faceoffs for a centermen? It's not like I came in the thread posting Crosby with a Hart and a Cup saying he is the best.

Geez...

Don't you see, if you see anything remotely positive about Crosby or even acknowledge any of his talent, then you are a blind worshipper of the antichrist.

And frankly I think Crosby has this little ***** air about him. He's extremely hard to like, but the f***** is talented.

On the same note, you can't say one bad word about him and you're just a blind Crosby hater with no sense of logic or hockey sense.

That's patently false. The majority of threads about Crosby here are to make fun of him. They are almost entirely negative.

Like I said, he's a little ***** in a lot of ways, and I'm sick of the league cramming him down fan's throats. But generally he gets s*** here for things that he has no control over.

The people who are blind haters with no hockey sense are the ones who try to diminish or ignore what he's already done in his career.

As for the actual article, the title of it overstates it for dramatic effect. Crosby hurting the Pens is a ridiculous notion. But I would agree that he's not helping them as much as you'd think or as much as he has in the past.

That's patently false.

No it "patently" isn't. You're telling me you haven't noticed Carman and his subtle little helpers? It's everywhere. People who are too afraid to look like Crosby hating homers side with him to look smart.

Both sides exist. There isn't much of a grey area for people. But on fan boards, grey areas rarely exist for anything.

Lmao uh, no, it "patently" isn't. You're telling me you haven't noticed Carman and his subtle little helpers? It's everywhere. People who are too afraid to look like Crosby hating homers side with him to look smart.

Actually it is. roflmaoqwefasdfa.

So you mention one member here to prove your case that you can't criticize Crosby without being called a hater? Go cruise through some threads. I'm right.

The hatred for him here vastly outnumbers the supporters. Frankly I don't know if there are really more than a few Crosby supporters here. Mostly it's just people calling haters out on the ridiculous s*** they find to bash him about.

Not hating him doesn't make people look smart. It's just that bashing him for the way he sneezes, or puts on his gloves, or whatever ridiculous crap, sure does.

There are legitimate discussions to be had about Crosby. They just don't happen here.

This is sadly what most people will say. I don't think we're immune from the relentless Nazi like marketing push the NHL has given Crosby. We're like any other hockey enthusiasts-Crosby can't be s*** on, no matter what and if you do, you're just "a hater". Period. I mean, the guy breaks down his analysis more than I've seen anyone break anything down on this board, and the first reply is just passing him off as laughable.

Whether it makes sense or not, it's not in any way laughable the way alot of people are saying it is. It's debatable, but not laughable. It's a bit of a sensationalist title but on the other end of the spectrum, I believe it's made up for with his incessant whining and pouting and still to this day a lack of any real quality defensive play. He's good at what he's good at, not good at what he isn't, it simply is what it is. But I think we've been a little brainwashed like most hockey viewers. I've been through marketing, it's my job. This is a slow, sure fire process. Crosmosis, if you will. Ba dum tss....lol

Likely because the Crosby bashing has little basis from people who actually watch him and objectively criticize him. But then we have other Wings fans who bash him merely because it's popular, just like the bandwagon of bashing other Wings players, not because he whines or pouts all the time.

This has been made up and people use it to try and justify a strange obsession with him. This article is hilarious because Crosby is the backbone of the Penguins and is their leader, and has won a cup with him as a leader, signifying he is in fact a good one. However, giving praise for someone named Crosby on this board is probably like saying Jesus was *** for Judas to a Christian. He may not be the best player in the NHL, but that's the only logical thing this article implies. Oh noes Crosby is only 15th in the league points after 25 games (on pace for a mediocre 82 points while his team is in 1st place in the East), he sure is slipping.

Outrageous stuff like this only gives credence to the notion that Crosby is an outstanding and marketable player. It's highly ambiguous he was ever the best in the league (I certainly think of a few as better), but the amount of jealousy Wings fans have is so highly prominent and hilarious, and the opinion writer here is merely looking for attention from a popular Crosby-bashing crowd.

Ugghh we have a "I'm right and f*** you, no matter what" poster.

Like I said, he has his blind supporters and his blind haters. Alot of people think they're not allowed to ***** about certain aspects of his game. Personality wise it's more accepted.

But whatever, people like you barge into threads with one mindset and no one will change it.

You should probably read that other guy's post about salary. It makes more sense than just s***ting on the initial article without actually countering much of it.

It's a proven fact most people only read headlines and at most, a couple of sentences per article in newspapers and on websites. I'd bet most people didn't even read the article and just labelled it ridiculous right off the bat.

Merely because I decided not to address one of the most trivial parts of that op-ed doesn't mean I didn't read it, especially when I addressed everything else. Maybe you should read my post instead of a few sentences. Would make you look a bit less of a hypocrite in the future.

im surprised more people arnt in agreement with the article people always say that if Dats played the same amount of minutes he would put up just as many points

really what this article proves is that while crosby is good he doesnt necessarily give you the "most bang for you buck" even though he plays more minutes

crosby gets hated cuz he whines and the fact that he gets crammed down peoples throats

No care ever to read all the replies. I can't stand Crosby as much as the next true fan of the sport, yet I couldn't stomach that article... stopped reading it almost immediately.

Is Crosby the most overrated player in the NHL? I'd say yes.

Is Crosby hurting the Penguins? No.

The End.

Do I like him...Hell No.

Is he one of the best in the NHL...Yes

Is he a ****** Bag...Hell Yes

Is he hurting the pittsburgh penguins...hell no.

2nd in league in goals

3rd in league in points

4th highest +/- of the top 30 scorers in the league

1st in points at even strength

6th in points per game

1st in faceoff win % amongst the top 30 scorers in the league

10th in faceoff win % in the entire league which includes not only superstars but faceoff specialists (behind Datsyuk who isn't in the top 30 in scoring and far better than Zetterberg who doesn't crack the top 30 faceoff men)

2nd in the league in faceoff wins (behind Paul Stastny)

It'll always be something with Crosby. Earlier it was that he could score but couldn't win faceoffs or play defense or was too young to be captain.

Ok, so add youngest to ever captain a team to cup and add in one of the league's top faceoff men and you can scratch two more things off his detractor's list.

Aside from being Zetterberg on the penalty kill he pretty much has shown the league he can rack up the assists, he can score the goals, he can get the points, he can win trophies, win a Stanley Cup, win MVP, etc.......

Pretty much nothing he can't do.

Oh yeah, and the Pens are tied for 2nd in the league in points and the only team with 20 wins so far.

Yeah, he's hurting the Pens. They might as well get rid of him.

NHL Hockey is a business. Crosby sells more jerseys, puts more people in the stands, sells more airtime than Z or D or anyone else for that matter. Not to mention he had as many goals in two games as Datsyuk has all season at the time of this posting. While I m a huge fan of Z & D and not so much of Crosby, he is indeed worth the investment.

And don't forget, if Draper and the Wings would have done their jobs last June, they wouldn't have had to piss and moan that Crosby was too busy skating with the Cup to shake hands with their Captain.
