Opie 308 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/boxscore?gid=2009112523 Washington boarding - 5 min 3:38, A. Ovechkin served by C. Clark Washington game misconduct - 10 min 3:38, A. Ovechkin Anybody see it?
Carman 387 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 Yep, boarding call on a late check from behind. On a closer look Kaleta turned into the boards so it wasn't the correct call, but those things happen when you play the game like Ovechkin does.

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 (edited) I don't know if it's a hit from behind of the malicious type, but it's charging (remember when they used to call that?) if nothing else. He came from a long way away with no other intent but to hit him hard. But this is a result of Ovechkin developing a reputation for dangerous hits. MTU_Huskies963 398 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 I don't know if I would really call that boarding. I see boarding as more of hitting someone in the back to put them face first into the glass. OV hits him on the side and launches him at an angle into the glass. Also players need to stop turning there bodies in towards the glass, after making a play. Even if OV came from the front the guy would of be knocked the f*** out because he was looking down similar too Havlat. I think you need a better understanding of boarding then, because it was boarding. It was also a charge, which Ovechkin is starting to build a reputation for. I wonder if the other players around the league are starting to think about this kind of a rep and start wondering how to take him out in a similar fashion. I don't think that's the case, at least not yet, but Don Cherry certainly does.
RedFlag85 33 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 Can't wait to see what Don Cherry has to say about this. Maybe his hatred of European/Russian players will overcome what little sanity he has left and get his wacky ass fired.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 It wasn't charging. Ovechkin did have to skate a while over as he was close to center when Kaleta started to break out. But Ovechkin's hit wasn't a "pump my feet for the length of the ice and hit you" kind of hit. He skated into the area and hit him with a normal bodycheck. Kaleta saw him coming, and instead of attempt to avoid him, he turns towards the boards and passes the puck blindly towards the middle of the ice. So now Kaleta has not only put himself in physical danger, he has put his team in a potentially bad position by dumping the puck blindly towards several opposing players at center ice. MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 It has more to do with a player with a reputation for dirty/dangerous hits throwing a borderline hit. Referees are not going to give Ovechkin the benefit of the doubt in these situations. Ovechkin tried his slew-foot hit on Beauchemin on Saturday night, but Beauchemin got away from it. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted November 26, 2009 proper call by the ref. Agreed. To me boarding is generally more about hitting a guy who is a few feet away from the boards in such a way that he goes flying into them in a dangerous manner. A lot of those are also going to be hits from behind, but it's not a requirement for the call. just one more borderline hit for AO.
