Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Second time in a week, I believe. Both Ovechkin and Tim Gleason -- I think it was Gleason -- hurt on the play. The guy needs a long suspension. He's just flat out dirty at this point.

He's just flat out dirty at this point. Come on. Like they're going to suspend the two time MVP of the league a long time. That's just silly.

This guy makes or breaks my fantasy team, either he scores 10 goals a week or gets injured/suspended.....i gotta get some other players haha I didnt see the play anyone got a video? How bad was it? hankzet40 233 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Just more ammo for Don Cherry. I love Ovie but this is getting bloody ridiculous.

How bad was it? Still looking for video ... It was similar to Kronwall's injury, Gleason skated past him, he stuck the knee out and clipped him. Only difference was Ovechkin got the worst of it ... he couldn't put any weight on his leg going down the tunnel.
teebo 22 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 2 game misconducts in 3 games? is he really a dirty player..? league needs to make an example out of him so other stars dont act like him.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 ahaha ovechkin what a dumbass
AtomicPunk 296 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Yeah, it looked like Ovechkin was hurt worse than Gleason was....but it was pretty blatant. Is there a precedent set on the Kronwall hit / suspension? If so....then follow that. Superstar or not. Edited December 1, 2009 by AtomicPunk
jollymania 162 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Saw it just now, what was he thinking? worse than Laraques, but you know he will only get like a game
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Ovechkin needs to get sent a message, his reckless style is going to ruin his career. We can't afford to lose someone of his caliber to useless, and dirty plays like this. Come on Ovie you're better than that.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Looks similar to his hit on Gonchar last year. This time around there has to be a suspension, although Ovie probably suspended himself in a way since he'll likely be out injured for a while.
cjm502 165 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 I hope someone gives him the Claude Lemieux treatment someday.
Octopus's Garden 147 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 More on it: Ovechkin Ejected for Kneeing Gleason/ Replace the name "Alex Ovechkin" with, say, "Sean Avery," and what do you think happens? Probably a 1,000 game suspension.
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Karma came back to bite him in the ass because Ovie is injured. Hope he is out for 2 months because of a torn ACL. Don't usually wish an injury on any player but when you do sh!t like this ... you deserve it. Edited December 1, 2009 by RedWingsRox
Carman 387 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 He probably isn't even hurt and is faking his injury to try and get a lesser punishment.
RedWingsRox 614 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 He probably isn't even hurt and is faking his injury to try and get a lesser punishment. Then I say give him 10 games for repeat offense.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Intent and made no attempt to get out of the way, should be 5-10, he might get one with the NHL's bush league system.
Statts 4 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) He had a questionable knee on knee against Gonchar in the playoffs last year too. Edit: I wonder what the suspension flow chart has to say about this one. Edited December 1, 2009 by Statts
Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 He had a questionable knee on knee against Gonchar in the playoffs last year too. That was clean. His knee was not sticking out, it just made contact with Gonch's knee because the guy tried to get out of the way. This one, not so much.
jeff48109 474 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 he cant be doing stuff like this. at best, this is reckless with disregard for his fellow atheletes.

Thats why I said questionable. IMO though, it was dirty. Im pretty sure he got a minor penalty also.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Will be interesting to see what the league does here. If he doesn't get at least 5 games, it will be a bit of a joke. This was far worse than Laraque's. I can see the messaging now though.....not a repeat offender, therefore, not so much of a suspension.....of course, if they keep letting him get away with stuff, he won't be a repeat offender. It's not like Laraque has a history of dirty plays either. The NHL has a severe rep for rules for stars vs. rules for guys like Laraque. Timing of this is going to put them in a real bad spot for making them look foolish. So, never thought about this, but if he is suspended for the next 5 games, but is also injured and can't play anyway for about 5 games, is he allowed to come back and play in the 6th game? I'm almost certain the answer is yes, but it doesn't quite seem fair.
Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 I love how the NHL.com headline is "Alex Ovechkin leaves with knee injury." http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=508044
