Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 So now that we're a quarter of the way into the season and the wiled veteran Osgood is still showing signs of inconsistency, Howard has had an opportunity to get over his heebie-jeebies and develop some confidence. So at this point in the season, who do you feel more comfortable with in net? Osgood, who is a proven netminder and capable of making the impossible save, let has developed a knack for letting in softies, or Howard, the rookie goaltender who seems solid in net but has yet to really stand out as an established goalie? By the way, as a forum who prides themselves on the frequency and intensity of goalie debate threads, I'm disappointed this it took this long into the season to develop one. You should all be ashamed.

Carman 387 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Ride the hot goalie. Give Osgood the second game of back to backs. Atleast unntil Howard slips up. Then vice-versa. If it's not broken don't fix it.
Lovin Jiri Fischer 147 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 I think Howard has been doing a really good job lately. However, this comes right after his great game tonight, so that bias might be affecting me. But I'm really happy with his play lately. And I am really disappointed with Osgood. Yeah I know he kept us in the playoffs two years in a row and bla bla bla but I'm getting really sick of him disappearing in the regular season. He found his switch last year, but does that mean he can turn on the switch this year as well? It just seems like when he has a starting position, he is content and doesn't work as hard. I'm especially angry after he let in a goal less than a minute into the first and third periods on his last start.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Regular season, Howard, but this could change in one period. Post season, Ozzie. Unlikely to change.

cupforwings 138 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 I feel more confident with Howard in net, as of now. It seems that no shot for Ozzy is routine. Howard is bigger and seems to make the "easy" saves look easier than Ozzy. However, when Ozzy is on is game he is clearly the better goalie.... J HOWARD is hot, I say play him! You should all be ashamed. I for one am glad this has not happened in bold. Presently, you ride the hot goalie. Hopefully Howard keeps playing well to where you can develop a consistent 50/50 split (or as close as you can get to a 50/50 split) like Hasek-Osgood the last few years, at minimum for Osgood's health/endurance for the playoffs. Let's not get too crazy though, unless Howard just absolutely plays out of his mind for the rest of the season, Osgood is still the playoff goalie. That won't be decided until the final month/weeks of the season. Howard playing well right now though is definitely needed obviously for his confidence and what I said about 50/50 split. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 you guys know babs is gonna continue to rotate them Based on what? Babcock knows Osgood looked shaky in his last game and that Howard has played well in relief. He knows to stick with the hot hand and ride it out.
cupforwings 138 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 you guys know babs is gonna continue to rotate them He (Babcock) said Howard was "real good and gave us a chance to win," and would continue to start as long as he stayed hot. If Jimmy keeps winning, he will play

CopenhagenWing 38 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) Put Osgood in a glass case with a "Break in case of playoffs" sign attached. Howard has been a pleasant surprise after a not so hot start. His confidence seems to be growing with more starts. Still needs to work on his rebound control, though. Osgood will come around. He always does. Edited December 1, 2009 by CopenhagenWing
