Valiquette on Waivers.

According to Bob Mckenzie's twitter the NYR have place Valiquette on Waivers..

Im not sure The Wings are really in need of a goalie now since things have kind of smoothed out but I also saw NHLSourcesSay post this:

NHLSourcesSay The Red Wings, Kings, Coyotes are teams that im told may take Valiquette.

Thats what I was thinking.. I think it would make more sense to say the Wings were interested earlier in the season. I mean I really like Valiquette but Im not sure he is an improvement over Howard at all.

The only thing Valiquette has over Howard is size.

And A spiderman mask.

Edit: And more NHLSourcesSay.

NHLSourcesSay Im told if the Red Wings get a chance at Valiquette they will take him, but its likely a team before them will claim him.

Isn't he like 6'6"? I saw a clip with him getting caught out of net and ultimately getting scored on where he looked BAD. Happens to everyone, but just saying.l

Yeah, I'm intrigued, but I think with Howard showing that he belongs in this mix and Osgood presumably showing up for the playoffs (again), I don't know that we need to add another goalie. Plus, Daniel Larsson is older than I thought, and he'll probably warrant a look one of these days.

I've always wanted to see a large goalie in detroit. Valiquette is struggling obviously. Even if you were to believe the rumor that we'd grab him. I'm not sure what the thinking would be? 3 goalies? trade one? Some injury we don't know about?

hmmmm... interesting. Ozzie maybe? He hasn't played that many games lately. But I highly doubt they would trade Howard

I'm kinda surprised by this actually. I know he has had some struggles lately but he's been a pretty solid backup the last 2 years, even though Lundqvist has obviously played the majority of the games.

If this was a couple of weeks ago I would loved for the Wings to pick him up, but with Howard playing the way he is I'm not sure Valiquette is of any use to us.

i doubt they would dump ozzie and go with those two in the post season

Definatly not... that would be stupid... If they were to pick him up (which i doubt they will), then maybe they are thinking they can get some value for Howard now? who knows, its most likely nothing

I think Ozzie is ok. I was listening to Hockeycentral at Noon and he was talking about getting his 400th win and then the all time Red Wings win record from Sawchuk.

why would Holland waste money for backup goalie when the team is OK in G,

while terribly struggling with injury bug which left it withouth firepower?

in all honesty - what's the logic behind fetching a goalie when the team

has about as much cap space as to buy some scoring forward to help it

in case current injuries persist and the Wings need a boost to stay within

playoff picture? is there any logical explanation to wasting money this way

when there's real danger of needing it later for more serious purchase....

total BS, thank you.

Our organizational depth at goalie is really pathetic. I wouldn't mind claiming him and then taking the chance of sending him down through waivers to GR later in the season when people start coming back from injury. At least we could keep him down there or maybe better just loan him to another AHL team for this season. We'd still have him in our system, but he wouldn't be taking starts away from McCollum and Larsson.

Huh? We have one of the best playoff goaltenders of all time (who also happens to be in top 10 regular season wins all time), a younger guy who's finally looking to be starter material, a possible future starter in Larsson sitting in GR, and a low pick starter prospect in McCollum. It's not the best in the league, but it's far and away from pathetic.

And a big no on Valiquette. With all the spoiled bitching about goaltending on here, I wouldn't want to see the reaction when Valiquette redefines the word 'blowout' for some people here.

Take NhlSourcesSay with a grain of salt.

Agreed. I deleted them from my twitter after a couple of days of seeing them take their news from other, reliable sources and pass it off as their own. Plus they seemed to be about as discerning as Eklund.

Either you're ignorant of the Wings' prospect pool or you're confused about the meaning of the word "pathetic".

Howard is a former blue-chip prospect playing well in his rookie NHL season.

Larsson is a standout who won the SEL's top goalie award 2 years ago, was named to the AHL All-Star team as a rookie last year and is on the All-Star ballot this season. He's done nothing but play outstanding hockey. This month he's 5-1, 2.14 GAA and 0.926 SV%.

McCollum is a 19 year old 1st rounder who was one of the top 2 goalies in the OHL last season. Now he's playing his first season of pro hockey. He looked good early but has been struggling more lately. Still, the entire Wings organization's been buzzing about Thomas since he showed up at training camp and blew their socks off with his technique, size and ability.

Pearce just entered the system as a college standout. He's playing in the ECHL right now where he's struggled but should hopefully adjust as he gets used to the game there. He would be playing in the AHL but the Wings already have their top two goaltending prospects there.

I just can't understand where your comment came from. Do you really think many organizations have more than 3 kids playing pro hockey right now?
