With cap room next season, what is our priority?

Frolov will be an unrestricted free agent..... unrestricted free agents can go anywhere they want. He would get a very nice raise and ANY hockey player in the league would be stupid not to want to play for Detroit. And I am sure Stuart can tell Frolov the difference between playing for a team that WANTS to win badly every year vs a useless team that has trouble making the playoffs plus the benefits of playing for Detroit. If Hossa wanted to come here just to try to win a cup I think Frolov wouldn't think twice. Frolov could be a first line player and if has a chance of playing with Datsyuk I think he would grab the opportunity in a second. Datsyuk and Frolov together would be dynamite.... fellow Russians.

Ponikarovsky would also love to play with Datsyuk.... he is Ukrainian....

To be frank, we need better goaltending (whether it's a one-year deal or whether it's longer-term) until McCollum or Larsson are ready for the NHL; I don't think Jimmy Howard will be a reliable goaltender moving forward. At best, he's an average backup.

Our group of forwards is a strong core; we have more than we frankly need right now because of injuries, and when we get some forwards back, we should be doing alright if we keep, say, Miller and Eaves for third and fourth line guys.

The main thing we really need isn't anything cap-related, though. We need McCrimmon gone. As in, yesterday.

He's not a good defensive coach, and if he wants to remain, we need a stellar goalie that can stand on his head every night, because our defense really isn't developing. Hell, I'd rather see the GR assistant that works on defense up in Detroit; he at least, seems to be doing well.

Too bad we couldn't have picked up Afinogenov in the offseason. What a steal the Thrashers got. I remember a thread awhile back about us wanting to get him too but everybody was against it.

Ya, how about Prospal too? He is a point per game player this year.

I hope we can make a few changes this offseason and the lineup will look like this:

Frolov - Datsyuk - Ponikarovsky

Cleary - Z - Franzen

Abdelkader - Filppula - Leino

Draper - Helm - FIGHTER

Lids - Rafi

Kronner - Stuart

E - Kindl (Lebda/Lilja)

Big Bertuzzi could fill that 4th line roll if he was willing to give it his all for 9 mins per night, but I just don't see that happening. Williams will leave hopefully and we can keep Eaves as the 13th forward.

If Bourque signed elsewhere I would cry.

He plays like a younger Jarome Iginla with more speed but obviously not as good snipe-wise and not as smart. By far the Flames best PKer and it seems like everytime he is out on the PK a shorthanded chance is created. Right now I'm thinking he is the winger that will bridge the gap between Iginla declining and the next prospect winger (hopefully Nemisz) breaking out.

Any team that picked him up would be greatly improved. I know it sounds like I'm overrating him (as I'm Flames homer) but just from watching him you will see he is the Flames best forward right now. The downside is his style of play makes him very prone to injuries.

I'm not sure how much cap the Wings will realistically have next year.

Realistically they may have enough to sign one player to a bigger contract and fill the other two spots by bringing back guys like Eaves, Miller and May.

This is assuming the cap goes down though, which I think it will.

I'm pretty sure Eaves or Miller will be back. At least one of them.

It will probably only be one of them. With a full healthy roster the Wings will have to move either May, Leino, Miller, Eaves or Abdelkader back to Grand Rapids. I doubt it would be Leino. Its a given to me that Abdelkader goes back down since he is waiver exempt.

So you can only keep two of May Miller and Eaves, one needs to go to Grand Rapids...all need to pass through waivers...none of them will in my opinion.

This lineup shouldn't break the bank:

Franzen-Datsyuk-Langkow

Cleary-Filppula-Leino

Abdelkader-Helm-Torres

Crombeen-Johnson-May

Lidstrom-Ericsson

Stuart-Kronwall

Mitchell-Boynton

Biron

Larsson

1.Draper retires

2.Maltby retires

3.Holmstrom retires

4.Bertuzzi walks

5.Williams walks

6.Eaves walks

7.Pray that Kenny gets rid of Rafalski somehow

8.Lebda walks

9.Lilja walks

10.Meech walks

You're kidding right? 10 of the 20 guys are going to leave? And you forgot 1 guy by the name of Zetterberg.

hahahaha

Assuming Lids stays, our main focus will be on reloading the forwards. I would like to see.

Franzen-Dats-Z

Cleary- Flip- Stajan

Helm-Abby-Lieno

HW Fighter- Draper- Agitator/MW

Eaves or Miller as the 7th

Lids- E

Stuart- Kronner

Kindl- Raffi

Not sure about the D pairings, but Kindl and E probably shouldn't be playing together.

Where the hell is Osgood? Everyone noticed you missed Z, but where's Ozzie? I'd rather Ozzie than Biron who is HORRID in playoffs. I mean, had he played well, Philly could have beat Pittsburgh...

What we need is a new version of the Russian 5 with Dats pulling the strings! Many have been calling for Frolov, and Afinogenov (whom I said we should try for, but I got shot down)

these would be great wingers for Dats. But who do we go for on the D?

I'd try and get Anton Babchuck back over here and bring Oleg Piganovich with him.

I'd like them to try for Volchenkov.
