lol Jake will bust Homer's chops for making mistakes that allow goals but then say Lebda has been decent.

Seriously is this a joke? Are LGWers being punk'd?

Lebda is as useful as a poopie flavored lollipop

LoL, somebody watched the movie dodgeball too many times. : P

Lebda is the Sandra Bullock of the Red Wings.

How someone with so little talent and appeal has been able to stick around this long is beyond me. There's a few D-men in Grand Rapids that we've had the last few years that are better than him.

Aw man, think of how hurt Sandra will be when she reads this! She may even cancel her latest project, a touching romantic date movie centered on a relationship with a hockey player.

As for Lebda, it is a rotten shame that someone with that kind of speed can be such a liability. I think a few of you are on to things - his history of being matched with Chelios may be a liability in that Chelli was able to keep him smart and make up for many mistakes. It must have been a lot of work! Hell, I don't know, it's just a shame he can't match his speed with some intelligence out there on the ice. I'd like to believe that his raw skills can still be coached into being a better player, but maybe it is as simple as this - either you get it or you don't and there is only so much you can teach.

Those of you saying Lebda has been playing at the same level since his rookie season are wrong. His rookie year may have been his best overall season.

My thoughts on Lebda? Waive the f*****. Someone will take him. Meech is much better defensively; he is often the guy or one of the guys in the defensive zone when the other team gets an odd-man rush, instead of always being the last man back, and he typically makes good decisions in that situation. For those who don't recall, Meech stopped a 3-on-1 against St. Louis the other night when Stuart was caught pinching. He played the puck carrier towards the outside while staying low with his stick out to impede pass attempts. The carrier eventually moved to shoot from the top of the circle, and Meech's position allowed him to drop and block the bottom half of the ice, allowing Howard to focus on a high shot. Perfect defensive play. Lebda would have challenged the puck carrier every single time and given up a 2-on-0... every single time.

Lebda. Off the team. As soon as possible.

This guy balls for the Wings. For as much crap as this guy takes, he's a damn consistent player for Detroit. I'm not saying he's any more than a 6th defenseman in the NHL, but a 6th defenseman on the Detroit Red Wings is more than likely a pretty good NHLer. I wish this guy would get some time with Lidstrom. I think his footspeed would be a bigger benefit to our top defensive pair than Rafalski's outlet passes. Lidstrom already has the outlet pass part covered for his pairing, anyways. Perhaps a Lidstrom/Lebda, Rafalski/Ericsson, Stuart/Kronwall combo would be more effective? Regardless, I think Lebda deserves a little more credit than he gets.

MASSIVE FAIL.

Please, do something with your life rather than watch hockey. Your opinions on the sport are nauseating.

For me personally I keep thinking the guy will be traded any moment but it never happens. I guees I just don't see the point in having a tiny little defensemen on the 3rd pair. I mean, is he the second coming of Coffey or Rafalski? Of course not. He doesn't move the puck any better than anyone else. His positioning isn't good either. WTF is his value there? His speed? It's about as effective as Boyd Deveraux speed was. Remember that dude? Me either.

The only value I see is his price tag. He's cheap. Ok then. How about we trade him for a cheap stay at home Defensemen. To me, the 3rd pair guys should go out there and play safe tight physical hockey. Their objective being to not get scored upon and to buy time for the top guys with talent. Remember Rouse and McCoun? Now those are 3rd pair guys. Before anyone mentions guys fitting not our style of play, please don't. Any giant meat head can make a pass up the boards or to a skater leaving the zone.

Lebda is fine as a 6th defenseman. For some reason it seems he's getting more ice time than in the past...

That said I don't think he is the type of defensemen we need, I'd rather have a slow, big physical densemen in his place.

Personally, I think Lebda has really played poorly. However, he does catch so much slack on this site it's a little overkill at times. Every now and then he does do somethign somewhat useful but that never gets mentioned here.

I remember a time, maybe three years ago when I was more comfortable with him as our 6th D than I was Lilja. Ppl in this thread are right though, he hasn't gotten any better since.

I would much rather Janik be our 6th D-man right now

Agreed!

You know what, I actually think Meech is a decent player. I honestly think that if he played night in, night out and had a position locked up he would become a fine 6th defenceman. People are quick to bag him for any little mistake and while he's made his fair share, I think he makes up for it with some very intelligent plays. He's a solid player who has received a lot of unwarranted criticism during his time here. I quite like Meech, whenever I see him he impresses me. I can't remember what game it was, I think against Nashville late last month, he was outstanding, perhaps even our best defender. He looked confident, played great defence and was creating chances offensively.
