sack datsyuk is the dumbest idea yet. gj

Just get Crosby here whatever it takes, he would lift this franchise instantly

Was great mate!

Don't you think penguins would trade Crosby for zetterberg+datsyuk? ;)

Hmm.. I honestly don't think they would do that. Crosby is their new lemiuex and they won't let him go for anything. He captained their team to a cup last year and they are playing great hockey this season also, tied for #1 in their division with 43 points. I'm not sure how the cap issues would be in Pittsburgh in a trade like that either but I'm pretty sure they will have to get rid of some player(s) also.. Their team would lose their identity and it would just be a messed up trade lol

Am I crazy for thinking that?

As a fan of the Red Wings, I say no way in heck can he be traded. The Red Wings are like a family and if they dump Datsyuk now while he is slumping, it ruins the family atmosphere and reputation. The organization would have zero credibility in any future negotiations with rfa or ufa talent. I think, as bad as this might get flamed, give 3-4 games off. Remember, its not like we have really been winning with him in the lineup so resting him, and giving him time to clear his head might be good.

From a business perspective trading Datsyuk would be difficult. The first reason would be that he is slumping. Another team would only trade for Datsyuk right now if they thought they could somehow end his slump. Which probably in all honesty require a team with top level talent, and how many of those teams would have the cap space? Second is cap space, a team trading for Datsyuk would most likely be sending a player back with a similar cap hit, diminishing the talent on the team he goes to. Third a slumping Datsyuk in a trade is not going to fetch a talent that could replace him. Realistically, there are only a hand full of guys who could replace his two way skill. Fourth is the fact that when trading him you eliminate half the league as trading partners b/c no way in heck Ken Holland ships Datsyuk to a Western Conference team.

More than family, he is the kind of guy you build a team around and if we didn't have him, then we would certainly have a major rebuild on our hands. However, maybe this is something the Wings should think about - that they built a team around him and Hank. I know we have a ton of injuries, but the focus should always be on complimenting these guys with the best possible lines to take advantage of their strengths. In Dats's case, I think we have fallen short in this area, HOWEVER, he could step it up himself a bit.

Any way, if they ever did trade Dats, I would become a fan of whatever team landed him (and many would kill for him, slump or not). He is one of the most exciting players to watch in a lifetime. Totally unique.

Hmm im sure no team could resist that deal tbh....

And crosby would be the perfect player for the wings, it's hard to admit but he's just a bona fide player, ever since they won the cup he's now a proven winner he doesnt dive like he did in his first two years and he doesnt whine more than any other player...also humble like any red wing player and doesnt seem to love the media that much like ovechkin does

Nope, if we are trading him because of his play lately then pretty much our entire current top 6 should be traded.

Naw, we don't need to trade our top six, they are slowly getting injured. I think that sends them the right message.

This is one way to activate the schtick:

Plus, Hossa performed so well with Crosby in the 08 playoffs and somehow looks average with Datsyuk as his center. This of course speaks to Datsyuk's... uh... 'uneliteness.' He doesn't have the courage or 'steadfastness' to play with some real effective 'strategery.'

just awesome LOL....

yes indeed "strategery"

It's alright.

But to you question, after Losing Granderson I don't think I could bear to see Datsyuk leave too.

Come to think of it, what a s***ty year for Detroit sports. We lose Billups prior and the Pistons sucked, Wings lose game 7, Tigers collapsed and lose the tie-breaker and then just traded away Granderson, new Pistons and Wings are injured and struggling this season, and the Lions are the Lions as I sit there and watch our future QB get hurt like the third time this season. At least they won't go 0-16 again.

Losing Granderson is a huge blow. He was by far my favourite Tiger and it's obvious it was just a salary dump. It also sucks we lost Placido Polanco. He still had a lot of gas in the tank. Either way, we're not going to be all that competitive this year I woudl imagine. The Yanks (my second favourtie team) will again contend and take it home with Granderson being a 30-30 man, yet again.

He is not capable of 100+ points. He hasn't done it yet and is on pace for 67ish points.

Think of what we could get in return!!! Trade him to Buffalo for Tyler Myers imo.

Just because he hasn't put up 100 pts doesnt mean he is not capable. Just because I havent stripped naked and ran through my office like a crazy person quitting my job doesn't mean I'm not capable of doing it.

Whether Carman is a troll or a douchebag his posts are a waste of time. From now on I'm not responding to any of them. Not only is his schtick lame but it's gotten so boring now. He had his funny moments by getting ppl riled up but now it's repetitive and boring. I'm done with him.

If his numbers don't improve by the end of the season, then yes....but wait until the off season.

Good idea trade him when his stock is high. We shouldn't trade him now or if his numbers aren't improved by the end of the year.

He is not capable of 100+ points. He hasn't done it yet and is on pace for 67ish points.

I believe the Red Wing's would benefit more from having a 40+ goal scoring winger then a 90+ point playmaking center.

Are you serious, you admit he is a 90+ point player but he is not capable of getting to 100+. He may not ever get to that magic number (not that there is much difference between 97 and 100 except the psychological difference) but it is silly to say he is not capable.

Maybe I'm just a jackass for not cheering for over-payed, under performing players then.

You are probably the only person to think Dats is over-paid.

No way Datsyuk is awesome even though he goes through streaks where he does not score. If the Red Wings could get rid of anyone it should be Rafalski. Rafalski is making 6 million a year and I do not think anyone would say he is worth that. Just think of the kind of goalie the Red Wings could have for 6 million a year.

I would consider something like Roy + Myers for Dats or Bergeron + Lucic for Dats... Still I think we are better keeping him.

This season I red at least three interviews where he said he is feeling exceptionally tired. I know he is getting 6.7M per season, needs to earn his money and that stuff but... It just happens. He'll be much better by the end of the season.

so your telling me you would trade a player who has 194 points over the last two seasons for bergeron and lucic? LUCIC????? i know LGW is pro-enforcer... but if we get an enforcer it should be one whos bones aren't made of glass. lucic broke his finger, came back, then hurt his leg.... you really want that *****? you dont think dats is worth a little more then that? if your answer to that question is no i would suggest finding another sport because your just not understanding hockey.

WHAT THE f***?!?!?

s*** dude...that's drastic. how about trading for a winger that belongs on a line with dats. if you had homer and bertuzzi on your wings you wouldn't get 97 points in a beer league. and there's more to being elite than racking up points...there's nothing wrong with dats' defensive game. he just needs to be on a line with some real talent. this year is unfortunate for the WHOLE team except maybe zetterberg who is a point a game.

At first I thought to myself, this must be a April Fool's joke. Then I open it and just realize that anyone is allowed a keyboard! Datsyuk is an invaluable player, one of kind and possible one of the best all around players in the world. It is always a shame to see fans calling for a trade for lack of production, the points need to come but there is so much more that he brings to ice. I just think the idea is purposterous.

Just when I thought the education was getting better in the glove...

First of all, the suggestion to trade Datsyuk for Bergeron and Lucic is absolutely ridiculous. With Lucic's new contract next season they will have a combined cap hit of just over $8.8M/yr. Don't get me wrong, I happen to like Lucic but we're talking about a young, inexperienced guy who seems like he may have injury problems coupled with a guy who has had concussion problems and has never put up more than 73 points in a season and that was in 05/06.

Both are good players but not anywhere near worth the value of Pavel Datsyuk.

Lastly, this thread has been a joke from the beginning. I vote for its closing.

Think we can trade Datsyuk and Filpulla for Lecavalier? He's the type of player that would really break out in a hockey market.

Not only do you want to trade Datsyuk you want to package him with Flip for Lecavalier!

I'm sorry when your mom does not do what you want her to do you lock her in the closet?

Well Datsyuk for Lecavalier straight up would never work Lecavalier is a face of a franchise. Plus you have to make the salaries close.

This thread is dumb.

Rather succinct, but accurate. If we're going to trade someone on the team who is not producing, we might as well trade everyone on the team that is not producing and just forfeit the rest of the year. How exactly would trading Pavs inspire the guys to play better, more intelligent hockey? My guess would be "not at all".
