Just think about how great it would be. Every time someone is stripped of the puck, you'll hear the commentator say something like "ooh, what a brutal Lebda!" or "this team really needs to work on those Lebdas in their transition game." His legacy will last forever.

That's just disturbing.

Funny, but disturbing.

I'm going to see Lebda now whenever I eat apple turnover.

And somebody has to make that first post picture into an avatar, with the closeup of Lebda's face. His whole posture and facial expression is priceless.

Done. I don't want to replace my avatar of Nick, though. :(

I hate this argument. I've heard it used SO many times.

Since when are we comparing OURSELVES to these professional athletes? We're not. We're comparing them to OTHER professional athletes. It's like saying Brodeur is good, people will never say 'but you suck compared to Brodeur'. Only when people point out that an athlete is weaker than another does this stupid argument come out.

It's a stupid argument which really makes no difference. I'm no pro athlete, I don't have the skills. If a pro sucks, he sucks compared to other pros, not the person mentioning he sucks.

Mike Babcock sucks at hockey compared to Brett Lebda. Holland sucks at hocky compared to Lebda. That's why neither of them should ever critisize anything he does.

Lebda's level of play since the beginning of his career has been that of an emergency callup from the AHL when a team is missing a couple defensemen. He's not NHL caliber and never has been. Lebda would not have played a single NHL game in his life if he played in the late 70s and early 80s.

So let's compare Lebda vs. Holland in the AHL. Holland was consistently one of the AHL's top goalies, and in a 30-team NHL might have a regular backup job. Holland was named to the postseason all-star team in the AHL, while Lebda was never any better than the #3 defenseman in Grand Rapids - Derek Meech being one of the defensemen who was ahead of him on the depth chart, and has outplayed him almost every season since.

So while Babcock may not have been as good as Lebda (despite Babcock, a defenseman, scoring 132 points in 36 games for the Whitley Warriors in 1987-88) Ken Holland was a better hockey player than Lebda.

Beyond that, the fact that Lebda's performance has declined since joining the leagueshould give Holland and Babcock an idea that perhaps, given the defensive prospects coming up, Lebda should not return next year. Lebda only was given a spot on the Wings because Kronwall was injured in preseason and missed 55 games because of it. Jiri Fischer also missed considerable time that year due to his heart condition. A healthy Wings lineup that season sees Lebda in the minors all year, and likely no Jason Woolley.

And before the "well Ken Holland isn't a better player than Lebda NOW" card comes up, I have a response. Steve Yzerman isn't better than Jiri Hudler or Val Filppula right now. Neither are Babcock or Holland.
