Axelsson goes rogue - heading to Sweden

I thought this had been settled already but well:

From this Aftonbladet article.

Axelsson practicing with Farjestad

Have left Detroit's Minor league affiliates

Dick Axelsson have fled Detroit and AHL-team Grand Rapids Griffins.

Now practicing the star forward with Farjestad.

- If it were possible to solve Dick from his deal with Detroit, we of course welcome him, "said sporting director Daniel O'Shea.

Dick Axelsson left after FBK SM-gold last spring. New club address was Detroit Red Wings organization and the goal was to find a place in the NHL club.

But instead it has become AHL games for the 22-year-old. It's been slow for Axelsson in Grand Rapids, in 17 appearances has only been five points.

Axelsson and now seems to have tired of life in Michigan.

Should practice with FBK

On its website states Färjestad that Axelsson will be included in training sessions during the coming week.

- Dick has asked if he could train with us the next week and we have said yes to, "said Daniel O'Shea.

- But if there will be a continued need to Dick first with his agent to finish with Detroit.

Just a week ago, the Red Wings clear that it wanted to retain Axelsson in Grand Rapids.

- We are pleased to have him in Grand Rapids. He has to go through this. When you face a setback in life, you will not give up so easily, "said the assistant general manager Jim Nill to Sportbladet.

I'd have more respect for him if he said " I don't want to play for the Wings, I wanna be a Hab (The Habs are my most hated team, just to put that out there)". When it comes to a player giving up because he is having a tough time in the AHL, then pardon my french, f*** him. I'd rather see the kid say screw the Wings, and gun for another team. If you don't want to put in the required effort to play in the best league in the world, especially the Detroit Red Wings, then I hope the door knocks you flat on your ass on the way out. And that's all I have to say about that.

people get so excited on this site when a player doesnt worship the lord for being a "POTENTIAL" Red Wing

What a stupid comment! Fans have every right to be miffed that one of our potentially prized picks has decided to give up just because its taking him some time to adjust. Nill was right on the money with his advice that he needs to tough it through the rough spots to build strength and character instead of pouting and running home to mommy. Has nothing to do with worshipping anything but appreciating the opportunity given to you, and for an organization like the Red Wings?! He is truely an idiot Adversity shows a players heart and apparently Dick's is pretty small and weak!

I'm sure its not just the AHL which is causing his issues. Maybe he's having a hard time adjusting to life in the USA away from Sweden. Hopefully he gets his head straightened out.

Hey Dick, these guys have the right answers for you!

Own up to your agreement, or eat a di.. wait, screw you!

He has to be loaned out or released from his contract to play with FBK correct? I'd make him either come back or let him sit the rest of the year.

Grand Rapids is slower than the Euro leagues?

Uh oh!

It seemed inevitable. The Wings need to cut their losses with this kid. It's not like this came out of the blue. Some lowlights:

2006-07:

* Tried out for Swedish Elite League's Djurgardens and made the team.

* Already had a contract with second-level Huddinge, who wouldn't release him to Djurgardens.

* Missed season's first two months because of contract dispute between Huddinge and Djurgardens.

2007-08:

* Spent night in jail for "drunk and disorderly conduct" in April after argument with police.

* Left off Swedish team for world championship because of off-ice conduct.

* Signed three-year contract with Red Wings at season's end.

2008-09:

* Djurgarden kicked him off the team in December for poor on- and off-ice work ethic.

WEAKNESSES

Inconsistent ... Great one shift invisible the next ... Not defensively-conscious ... Undisciplined, piling up penalties with roughing infractions and misconducts ... Still thin and needs to add strength ... Needs to show better commitment to becoming an NHL player.

A lot of those are attributable to youth, but you can only expect so many of them to go away.

Man, opportunity wasted, adversity breeds champions or chumps, Dick made his choice of which group he belonged to.

Say hi grigs for me on the chump side!

I really hope you go through a near lethal car accident that makes you practically immobile for several months, and then even attempt to do anything remotely physical two years later. I'll be the guy laughing at you.

Don't let the door hit ya.

Agreed entirely.

You know, people s*** all over Ritola when he first came to America for having "a bad work ethic" and "having a hard time adjusting," but he's the only one that has stuck around long enough to actually SHOW some effort. He didn't quit.

Too bad Axelsson and Ryno didn't take lessons.

Way to blow his post completely out of proportion while being a D-bag at the same time by wishing a near fatal accident on him.

How this could be interpreted as a shot at Grigs' accident is beyond me. I simply see it as what it is, a jab at his work ethic in relation to Axelsson's. If you do remember, Wings' management had the same impression and were quoted numerous times that Grig's had the skill but not the desire. I suppose they weren't giving him a fair shot either because of his accident?

Grigs was not the same player after his accident, and I am sure that his injury hurt his motivation. It is disheartening to work all your life to play in a league like the NHL, get so close then have your development severely hindered because of an accident.
