Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) As you know Holmstrom becomes an UFA after this year and will soon be turning 37 years old (end of this month), but he's putting up good numbers and is our leading goal scorer half way through the season. He currently earns $2.2 million which is a very good price for a 20-30 goal scorer (on pace for 32 goals this season). Despite Holmer's lack of defensive play, he is a career +43 and is a consistent plus +/- player. Do you think Holland should re-sign him? If so, how much? rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 If Homer wants to be back, he'll be back! Maybe $2 million??
Theophany 110 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 It's "Homer" FYI. And I'd say 2 years, $3.5m. Career +43 isn't good when he's been in the league for 13 years, but he brings a lot to the table as a PP specialist.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Yes, I think holland should re-sign him. The Wings are desperately in need of goals and Homer is a relative bargain. As for a new contract, it's hard for me to say. Hopefully only a couple years and anything under 2 per year would be good. When he's healthy he's good for 20-30 goals and 40 to 50 points. But with the beating he takes, how many games he'll actually play is always a gamble.

Yup, you're right; that's why the Red Wings organization calls him Homer. I don't really care to debate it, because every single time I've heard anyone say Homer, it's been without an L sound in it à la Homer Simpson.

Theophany 110 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 if he plays as well as he has lately, i hope he re signs for at least a year Can you sign for less than a year? Well, technically I guess you can; you can pull a Michael Crabtree and wait until halfway into the season to sign, and miss the entire training camp and then have an incredibly mediocre season after being the #5 draft pick and bitching about it. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I love Homer, and hopefully he manages to stay healthy this year, but 1 yr at 1.6 is the most I'd give him. He's getting up there in age and is a PP specialist. If he can still contribute, love to see him back.
Carman 387 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I'm not his biggest fan, but it's hard to argue against his production. He is one of the best players on the PP in the game, and his future should be up to him he's earned another year.

They are the exact opposite basically. +43 isn't good for a career? If you think that's bad then I really don't know what to tell you. I don't think he'll re-sign for less then a 2 mil cap hit. Consistently a 30 goal scorer +/- a goal or two. Creates numerous more goals on the PP. One of the best power-play specialist in the league should make around 2mil cap hit a year give or take a few hundred thousand. Personally I'd hope he retires are we have a couple guys who can fill his void, but if Hollan does re-up his contract I think it'll be 2.5 his first year and then 1.5 his second. Edit: also, it's an F'n nickname, they can be spelled however you want them to be if that's your nickname for them. Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Consistently a 30 goal scorer He's definitely not that; he's scored 30 goals only once and 29 goals once. He's doing great this year but we'll see where it ends up. Of course as you go on to say his value can't be measured by numbers alone. He's worth another deal. I never said +43 was bad, I just said it wasn't good. Guys like Dats and Z are +170 and +124, respectively. Granted they're different caliber players, but even Draper is a career +78, and he's not a goal scorer (and has never been a goal scorer, nor been on a goal scoring line, frankly). I think you're fairly accurate with your $2m cap hit; I was aiming for $2/$1.5 for his 2 years at a cap hit of $1.75 per, but I can see that going up by $500k. Don't think he'll get more than $2m, as that's the most I'd pay him.

I read the OP's post a couple times trying to figure it out and didn't realize that he said "Holmer" until after I posted the "?????" post! lol. I should have payed more attention to detail. But yeah, Yahoo or MLive is the last place I'd go get my names or nicknames. For example, check out this Yahoo Article about Matthieu Schneider with a Picture of.........you guessed it!!!! Sean O'Donnell!! LMAO!! I think the "Homer for the Holidays" ticket pack link you posted ended any further speculations. At least, I'd hope so.

The article I linked to was about the "Homer for the Holidays" deal, which is directly from the Red Wings organization. But Konnan is right, it doesn't matter. I thought I'd be nice and correct you, but this has been WAY too many posts on the subject. Even the source she provided from Wings organization was spelled "Holmer". See my last post. Whoa, buddy.
