Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 He's definitely not that; he's scored 30 goals only once and 29 goals once. He's doing great this year but we'll see where it ends up. Of course as you go on to say his value can't be measured by numbers alone. He's worth another deal. Don't straw man me haha. I definitely said "Consistently a 30 goal scorer +/- a goal or two". But I guess you are right, in his last two full seasons healthy-ish was what I claimed him to be and is on pace this year to be what I claimed him to be. rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Even your source (from the website that you provided) calls him "Holmer". Maybe there is no "right" way to spell his nick name. But I proved that his team mates, mlive, yahoo sports and even the website you used to back up your claim calls him "Holmer" No, that's just how the writer wrote it. I am sure it's Homer. DETROIT -- The Red Wings have the perfect gifts for the hockey fan on your holiday gift list with two great ticket packages – the popular “Hockey Lovers†package and the new $96 “Homer for the Holidays†package; and great savings on Red Wings merchandise at Joe Louis Arena and Hockeytown Authentics in Troy. The “Homer for the Holidays†package, named for Red Wings forward No. 96 Tomas Holmstrom, includes three Red Wings home games of your choice*, three food vouchers good for a slice of Little Caesars pizza or a hot dog and a pop, and a Red Wings knit winter hat -- all for just $96. (*Dec. 30 and Apr. 11 games are excluded). Do you really think that the ticket pack name is wrong or an error?
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Even the source she provided from Wings organization was spelled "Holmer". See my last post. Yah fair enough. Yours was from a beat writer for the site while the "Homer" one was from the director of communications for the team to be fair . But who cares haha. I'm going to start calling him Holmmer. Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Brian Compton is an NHL.com staff writer. The article I linked to was about the "Homer for the Holidays" deal, which is directly from the Red Wings organization. But Konnan is right, it doesn't matter. I thought I'd be nice and correct you, but this has been WAY too many posts on the subject. Whoa, buddy. I'm a dude. Don't take away my masculinity. So the source that you provided only works in your favor and not anyone else when it proves to clash with your claims. Gotcha
rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Too easy........ Tomas Holmstrom is the Red Wings' 'Homer' in more ways than one Day 7: It's Ho-Ho-Homer's Holiday "I guess the language barrier was my first clue -- like, why couldn't Homer speak English better?" Kris Draper said. "And then I found out that he was neighbors to the Claus family, and that pretty well explained everything." Wings coach Mike Babcock, who will be Canada's coach, understands why Holmstrom was selected, beyond him filling the net-front role. "Homer's our heart-and-soul guy, who competes, gets mad -- great teammate," Babcock said. "One of my favorite players I've ever coached just because of his piss-and-vinegar in him." Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 No, that's just how the writer wrote it. I am sure it's Homer. Do you really think that the ticket pack name is wrong or an error? No, it's a 'pun'. It's for marketing. "Homer" for "Home" games (pun intended). It's a marketing strategy. His team mates call him "Holmer" that's why I spell it this way. rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 I think he'll resign for sure, hopefully no more than 2 mil. That's what I'm hoping for. That's a good price and he can always play the PP even if he isn't a first or second line player next year (which I think he can still be given he's healthy). russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Does it really matter between Homer and Holmer... Anyways, at this point in his career anything other than a year to year basis is bad, I say 1 year around 2 million if he even wants to come back. With his age andhow he takes a beating I wouldn't be shocked with a retirement or with another year.
Theophany 110 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 So the source that you provided only works in your favor and not anyone else when it proves to clash with your claims. Gotcha No, the source I provided works when it comes from the Detroit Red Wings directly. When you use the same publication with a different writer, it doesn't work, as that person isn't affiliated with the Red Wings in any official capacity. Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 (edited) Too easy........ Tomas Holmstrom is the Red Wings' 'Homer' in more ways than one Day 7: It's Ho-Ho-Homer's Holiday http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...ding_tomas.html So easy that it contracts your own source? So the sources that I used by mlive that his teammates call him ""Holmer" are incorrect. Yet the beat writers you provided spells "Homer" are correct? His teammates call him 'Holmer' because "Holmer" is how his is spelled i.e. "HOLMstrom" not "HOMstrom". I do get the marketing strategy for "Homer for the Holidays" thought. It's clever because Homer is for home games. Edited January 6, 2010 by Miller Brew
Miller Brew 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 For crying out loud, it's HOMER!!!! Sheeeeesh Yes exclusively for LGWs. It's "Holmer" if you're his teammate, as already proven.
russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Jesus H. Christ This thread is about IF he will be re-signed next year and how much a fair cap hit is, not his nickname. Take the petty spelling issues to PM's. Again I will state in attempt to get it back on track... I think any contract for a guy Holmstrom's age that takes his kind of beatings should be a year-to-year basis. So 1 year deals only at this point, kind of like how they dealt with Chelios at the end of his tenure.
Theophany 110 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Yes exclusively for LGWs. It's "Holmer" if you're his teammate, as already proven. Yes, because mlive and Yahoo calling him Holmer and the Detroit Free Press calling him Homer completely solves it in your favor; especially when EVERYONE pronounces it Homer. Without the L. Oh, and the Red Wings organization themselves call him Homer. Just saying.

Guest EZBAKETHAGANGSTA Report post Posted January 6, 2010 It's "Homer" FYI. And I'd say 2 years, $3.5m. Career +43 isn't good when he's been in the league for 13 years, but he brings a lot to the table as a PP specialist. Please go away.

Your one source was a marketing strategy 'Homer of the home games for the holidays'. Other than that, even your source that you provided, calls him "Holmer". So hopefully if you ever meet Holmer, you call him by his correct nickname so he doesn't look at you with a 'WTF' look on his face. That would be funny though Edited January 6, 2010 by Miller Brew
EuroTwin 240 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Yes. If he wants to stay, he'll get to stay. Probably for at or less than 2mil. I would guess a 1-2 year contract.

rage 24 Report post Posted January 6, 2010 Holmström is known to many fans in Detroit by the nickname of "Homer." He acquired the nickname "Demolition Man" while playing in Sweden (where he was also called "Holma"). That's from Wikipedia, so it CAN'T be wrong! lol
