Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Word. If the Wings were to miss the playoffs by a point or two, I wonder how many people here would still be fans of the loser point. +2. Though I'm not sure anyone here should be fans of the loser point. In the past it's only meant that other teams were artificially closer to the Wings than they would have been without it. But the Wings missing the playoffs because of it would be the final nail for sure.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 To be honest, I can't wait until Williams gets back. He'll make our third line that much more effective. And, along with Nik, get Meech and Stuart off the second PP.

Well, basically to me people who are fans of the shootout are also fans of the loser point, because the two are tied together. The league pretty much admits the shootout isn't a legit way to win because they give the loser a point. Kings lost, and the Preds lost, which is great. Unfortunately the Avs won in shootout and Canucks get a loser point. Honestly though, I know this is an unfamiliar position for us as Wings fans, but there are 38 games left in the season for Detroit. I'm trying not to obsess about it yet. Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 You're new to this whole hockey superstition thing aren't' you? no not really, but we won. So I will start a new superstition every time Howard is in I'll call shutout and we should win.
Datsyuk2Zetterberg 1 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 maybe drop the loser point to 0.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 And, along with Nik, get Meech and Stuart off the second PP. I'm fine with Stu on the PP, but Meech off = YES.

I never understood what was wrong with calling a game a tie either, let alone why it was necessary to find an arbitrary way to break one.
Theophany 110 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 maybe drop the loser point to 0.5 That would be a lot more reasonable, but you'd get fans bitching because they suck at math and can't add halves.

I love the endless OT we see in the playoffs. Cant we just settle it like that?
hankzet40 233 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 (edited) As awesome as that would be the regular season would become an even bigger grind than it already is. Edited January 10, 2010 by hankzet40
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 I'm fine with Stu on the PP, but Meech off = YES. He's okay, and has produced in the past but both Nik and J-Willy are clearly his superior in that. I love the endless OT we see in the playoffs. Cant we just settle it like that? Do you really want to stay up til 2-3AM on a weekday to watch the end of a regular season game? Ties were a fine way to settle games that were taking too long. Nev 1,085 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Flip with 4 points in the last five games. he has been amazing since coming back wiht his offense and spectacular defense. Yeah, I thought he might struggle points wise given he was coming back from a wrist injury but it just looks like he's collectin the points that his play deserved before his injury. Gotta be honest, I'd have been chuffed with a point from this game, but 4-1 is better than I dared dream of. 6 of 8 pts on the trip, must make it 8 of 10 against NYI. Continuing to love the play of the Helm line. Forechecking hard and taking it to the net

You almost barely notice him get them too. I bet a lot of fans would look at that stat and think, "Really? Oh, cool."
kylee 727 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 wings started the game with a great jump and didnt slow down even when they gave up the 1-0 lead in the 1st. cleary is awesome, and the wings just looked great overall. Howard was amazing yet again. the datsyuk goal was brilliant. lets see if they can keep us the good momentum.

TheSupafly 50 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 Sorry I wasn't able to say hello earlier...been pretty busy over here. I did however have time to go see the game in person. Not too enjoyable from my point of view, but your boys were clearly the better team tonight. It seemed that Detroit won the large majority of the loose puck battles along the boards, and the Sharks had trouble getting through the neutral zone all night. The Wings didn't look like a team that is struggling with injuries, which scares me even more when they become healthy and will be seeded lower than they should come playoff time. Just looking at the stats, it would indicate that the Sharks had the advantage and that was clearly not the case. That seems to be the Sharks' problem and it has been for a while. Stats wise and on paper they're fantastic...it's that little something extra that wins you tough games and brings home a Cup. For whatever reason the Sharks still haven't figured that out. Hope all is well over here. I'll try to be less of a stranger in the future.

I've noticed a lack of that "it factor" too the last few times we've played the sharks, but I hope they come through one of these years, I'd much rather lose to the Sharks in the POS than the BHAWKS. soultrain 43 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 really glad i got to smear it into the section in front of me tonight at the tank. i was loud and nasty. last year in a 6-5 loss i took so much bulls*** from shark fans at the tank... tonight was my official payback. i did it all wearing a sharks hat too. a great one to be at! shout out to the chick who came all the way from detroit to be there. Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 I'm fine with Stu on the PP, but Meech off = YES. I'd rather Meech than Stuart. My hope is we go to Kronwall-Ericsson on the 2nd PP so they can make use of Big Rig's 100mph slapper.

zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 10, 2010 "I think tonight was more us than them," Clowe said. "They're a good team, don't get me wrong, but it was us not them tonight." Thoughts? He obviously wasn't referring to the score board or the turnover he had that turned into a goal. They out shot us by 10 but Jimmy performed great. Nabokov on the other hand did not.
