dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Definitely safer with Feds than Forsberg. I'd love to see Sweden vs. Russia and the first faceoff being between Fedorov and Forsberg. But I guess Forsberg will either be on the wing or back home nursing some injury.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 You see it constantly on this site, people talking about Fedorov like he was riding Yzerman's coattails or that he was an overpaid second rate player or the most ridiculous that he couldn't play on this team any longer. Fedorov is going to be centering Ovechkin and Semin in Vancouver. Datsyuk is going to be on the "checking line" with Morozov and Zaripov. Anyone who thinks Canada stands a chance is out of their minds. While Russia will be a threat obviously, saying that one of the best countries to produce hockey talent year in/year out has no chance is a pretty bold thing to say. ComradeWasabi 109 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 If Perry is playing ahead of Heatly, Babcock is an idiot. The "second line" could be Heatley-Thornton-Marleau or Perry-Getzlaf-Staal. Actually, I'm pretty sure any of the Canadian lines could be called a first line, so the order they're listed on paper probably isn't worth much.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Source: Anyone that watches the national team. Ovechkin-Fedorov-Semin has been their best line over the last three years. Datsyuk is the best center for a checking role. Er, isn't the offensively somewhat limited but still solid two-way at this point of his career Fedorov the best center for a checking role? RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 If russia isn't scoring goals in buckets they are going to be losing. Traditionally Russian hockey in the Olympics and WC is pretty tight defensively, and Bryzgalov and Nabokov are both having strong seasons.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 in his defense, it was stupid of them not to invite zubov in the first place. I agree. Zubov is the best Russian born defenseman since Slava Fetisov. He's also played in tons of big games and is a great puck moving defenseman and powerplay man. Don't know why he wasn't on the main team.
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Iginla - Crosby - Nash Perry - Getzlaf - Staal Heatley - Thornton - Marleau Toews - Richards - Morrow/Bergeron that can't compete with the Russians at all? Hell, that 2nd line alone will abuse the Russian's D. and i think playing fedorov on that top line would be a big mistake. he was a legend here in Detroit...but his last couple years here in North America...he was a big bum You should definitely switch the 2nd and 3rd lines there. As much as we all don't like them Getzlaf and Perry are probably the best 1,2 punch in the game right now. Defensively and Offensively. He was a pretty good fighter during his minor league days. per wiki In 2004,during the NHL lockout, Tripp moved to the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany for Adler Mannheim. In 2006, he moved to ERC Ingolstadt before moving to Hamburg in 2007. In this time Tripp was able to obtain German citizenship and represent Germany . zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 To be fair, the Russian team that beat Canada at the World championships has a lot of returning players. It was 2-1 game. The Russians have added a lot of guys. More talent but a lot of the core guys that beat Canada 2-1 are still on the team. Now when we look at Canada. There are 3 returning players. The rest of the players that lost to the Russians 2-1 were not even close to making this team. Doughty, Heatley and Weber are the 3 returning players. When Russia's core team that they brought to the World Championship's could only beat the Canadian's mid level pros 2-1, you shouldn't being saying that Canada doesn't stand a chance. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 The only reason why Feds centered those two in the world championships last year was because Datsyuk was too busy playing in the Stanley Cup playoffs. And because he showed very solid chemistry with both of them in Washington. I have been calling this line for Russia since before they announced the teams; it's too obvious as a line with highly skilled players who have recently displayed strong chemistry. And before you make the "Fedorov is washed up" argument; In Fedorov's last season with Washington, he scored 11 goals and 22 assists for 33 points in 52 games, pro-rating to 17-35-52 in 82. He was then, and still is one of the best defensive forwards in the world. No, he's no longer the world's most dominant scorer/playmaker/defender/skater like he once was. But in the NHL he would still be a top-line forward on a large number of teams, and many teams would kill to add a player of his caliber. He signed in Russia because his father had a lifelong dream to see his two sons play on the same team, and he wanted that to happen. It's not at all an unrealistic suggestion that Feds may return to the NHL when his contract is up, pending injury of course. Yes, he'll be 41, but he is still a very swift skater with defensive skill and a powerful shot, and the motivation for Fedorov to play a second/third line supporting role hoping to get at least 17 goals (500 goals) and at least 21 points (1200 points) would not be far-fetched at all. All he needs is a team to take a chance on his ability, which he will get to show in the Olympics still exists at a high level.
LeftWinger 5,152 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 Now Now, my family is from Quebec so I root for Canada as long as the American's are not playing, but come on, this thread resembles a LetsGoPens board talking about how Godly there team is. So Canada has a talented team, doesn't mean they are gonna walk all over everyone. Also, to the guy who said that Crosby was gonna outplay Sergei so badly, i say really? REALLY? Fedorov can and will school Crysby. Crysby can't hold Sergei's used jock strap when it comes to hockey. I don't care if Sergei is 40, this is international play son, Crysby will be complaining to the refs all night about how large the ice surface is, and thats not fair to him... seriously though, Sergei deserves that top spot, he is definately the elder statesman on that team so out of respect for him and his career he will get the start. Crysby will be ok, but he won't outplay Sergei badly. And for all you Canada yahoo's, Babcock is your coach, so look for a lot of screw ups this year, also about your "San Jose" third line, well they have proven that they cannot win the big game already in San Jose so why should you expect more from them now? Here's to a USA vs. Russia Gold Medal Game!

FYI, it's in Canada on normal size ice. Babcock is a great coach so I don't think that will be a problem and Heatley was not on the team last year for San jose so you can not say they can't win the big games. You can think what you want. Crosby is probably the smartest player in the league right now. We may not win gold but to think we don't have a chance is boarding on insanity.
adubs 8 Report post Posted January 26, 2010 As a Flames fan that hates everything to do with Ruslan Fedotenko and the 2003-04 Tampa Bay Lightning (exception Sarich), I have no idea why Brad Richards was left off of Team Canada. Unless Iginla picks up his game the Russians are going to pick him apart. I can't see Heatley doing very well either. My pick to win it is the U.S. through outworking all of the other teams.
