I think he needs to go to a Chris Pronger hockey school next summer

He plays like a little man instead of a big man

I wonder if he's bright enough to play on this team like a few other fellows of questionable intelligence on this team ....Bertuzzi..... did I say that?

He wouldn't have been developed and have this high praise from within the organization were it not for his hockey sense. Ken Holland does not favour dumb hockey players.

He's never had trouble thinking the game and his play in the AHL and in every NHL game previous to this year should show you that. He's having your typical rookie defenseman growing pains. In the NHL you have much, much less time to think about defensive decisions than other leagues. Call-ups often run on instinct and adrenaline more than they would as a full-time NHL player.

Let's put it this way-- you're the first person I've heard question E's ability to think the game.

I never understand the high praise he always gets. To me whenever i see him on the ice he is usually turning the puck over or comming very close to a turn over. Im not saying he sucks or anything but the media act like he is captain Nick sometimes.

This year yes he is turn over central, but last year SCF he was a force playing with Lidstrom. IMO he was playing damn near his full potential.

Look, it would be a huge mistake to treat this guy like Quincey and let him go. Like Quincey, he has proved he can play very well in the playoffs. Big E has a huge, huge, huge upside - especially given his age and when he started playing D. Right now it is all about confidence and experience both of which he will get over time. This kid reminds me exactly of Jiri Fischer in his early years whom Chelli once labeled as the biggest head-case in the room during his long stretch of inconsistency.

Good point. Now if only he could hit like Fisch did :P

Damn. I've been searching for the past couple of minutes of a video clip of Fisch cross checking Tommy Westlund in the teeth during Game 4 of the 02 finals. I was going to post it as a reply to you. I know it's up on YT though, just no luck right now.

I'd settle for the clip of him putting a creepy Vancouver clone through the glass (not like I haven't seen it a dozen times, though).

Does Big E play on the PK if Lilja can play again at the NHL level?

Some might think that it might be too much for Lils. I think that it's a very big part of his game and what he relishes doing as a hockey player. Eventually he'll work his way into that 4man dmen rotation. That is, if he's fully recovered.

A FYI, Fischer was known among the team as being quite the ditz. We are talking a total airhead. He is not a smart person. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but we have had plenty of intelligent players including Shanny, Yzerman and Datsyuk (the sense of humor is a dead give away).

Man, how do you remember a guy like Aki Berg? You've obviously studied Finnish hockey.

Aki Berg was worse than Lebda can ever be.

Man I miss that guy. He was so fun to watch out there.

A guy that sucks at every phase of the game. At least Lebda can skate.

I wish the Finns would put him on their Olympic team

WTF. I just realised that the guy DID play in the 2006 Olympics and we dominated the whole tournament. Somehow I just don't remember anything of him. Maybe he was a 7th defenseman or something like that, but you can from
that he also played some minutes.

Suck it up and hope that Lilja coming back helps. I don't think breaking up Rafalski and Lids is going to actually address the problem, it will just make him look better. He needs to learn, not have his hand held by a better defenseman.
