Who will you support at the Olympics?

I'm Canadian, but I don't have any interest in seeing Crosby, Getzlaf, Pronger, Neidermayer, Iginla, Nash, etc. win anything. I don't really have a favorite going into this. I'd be happy seeing the Red Wings players doing well. If Sweden, Russia, USA, or Finland medal, I'm satisfied.

This pretty much says it for me. There are too many individuals on the Canadian team I do NOT appreciate (cough, retch, gag) so I hope they lose. Yeah, I know that's probably a dumb way to look at it (ME dumb, not YOU dumb, Barrie! I'm sure your reasons are a lot more noble than mine. ) but I want to see the golden boy and his lackeys lose. Other than that, USA, Russia, Sweden, Finland, ad infinitum.

I'm an American rooting for, in order:

* Russia: Datsyuk is probably my favorite active player (sorry, Lids), and this team is built for exciting hockey...Plus my wife is Russian, heh.

* Canada: Steve Yzerman. I actually dislike many of the players on this team, but you can't deny their talent. Oh, and I kinda like their coach too.

* USA: My home country, although if they win it will be on the strength of their goaltending (read: not the most exciting hockey to watch, IMO). I'm rather ambivalent about most of the players, aside from Miller.

* Sweden: Red Wings.

EDIT: Of course, I'll be pulling for Team USA in any game I watch. But this is more because it's what I think I SHOULD do than what the hockey fan in me wants to see happen.

Thanks a lot! Now, I feel rotten. Won't change my mind, but boy do I feel bad. :P

I know what you mean. Some people are saying I should get over it because it's my home country. But I think cheering for Crosby, Getzlaf, Iginla, Pronger, Neidermayer, and Nash, means I'm cheering against Lidstrom, Holmstrom, Franzen, Kronwall, Filppula, Datsyuk, and Rafalski. Personally I can't do that, but don't blame any Canadian Wings fan for backing team Canada because they're Canadian boys.

To each their own.

I'm neutral, so I'll just sit back and watch some excellent hockey!

Makes it a lot easier, eh? The Right vs. Wrong BS is removed and we just indeed, sit back and watch!

I'm going to be cheering for America, but I really hope that a Stevie Y led Team Canada takes the gold. Its really hard for me to cheer against the Captain.

This may actually sound like blasphemy, but I hope Sweden gets knocked out quick. I don't want Lids, Z, or Mule burning themselves out or getting injured in this tournament. We have a Stanley Cup we need to reclaim.

I'm an American rooting for Russia and Canada. I want Russia to win because I like a lot of the Russian players (Datsyuk, Fedorov, Ovechkin, Malkin), and I want Canada to win for the sake of Yzerman and Babcock.

Also, I think as much as people dislike Brian Burke the man could probably use an Olympic medal; he's going through a pretty rough patch...

I mostly hope for any country other than those from North America because I can't stand the way hockey is coached here compared to Europe. Stressing systems over skills for kids is ridiculous. I especially am looking forward to seeing Canada lose.

Overall, I like Russia and want to see some Datsyuk magic with guys like Malkin and Kovalchuk

I can't speak for the US, but I would disagree that Canada does that. I played hockey pretty much my whole life, and skill was a pretty big focus. I think the skill on Canada's roster shows that skill is important too.

Personally I didn't have anything against the United States' team until I saw this thread. The number of people here saying that they want Canada to go down in flames? I'll laugh that much harder when the US doesn't win a single game. Canada's taking home gold.

As far as non-Canadian teams, I'll be cheering for Russia (unless/until they play Canada). They'll be a lot of fun to watch.

Yes, I'm biased. I want Russia to win. I want to see Pasha up on that podium getting a gold medal. I think if he does, I'll probably have tears in my eyes...but I'll be so damned proud of him.

My money is on Russia and Sweden. Sorry, Stevie, I love ya, but your team has no one on it I like.

American rooting for Russia. I've always liked Russian players, and their Olympic team gives me the same sort of butterflies-in-the-stomach holy-s***-they-are-talented sick feeling that our '02 Cup team gave me.

That said, in women's hockey, I'm USA all the way!

In think in Finland it's even more about the system than Canada.

I'd DEFINITELY have tears if Finland were to win it.

USA will be a serious medal contender, most likely up against Finland and Sweden for bronze. I think we can all agree that realistically Canada and Russia will most likely take gold and silver. If USA completely blows it again I would have to cheer for the Swede-Wings.

Born in America from two parents who were born and raised in Canada. I have mixed emotions about who I root for every time the Olympics come around. So I am split between the country I live in, the country my family is from, and the country my favourite players come from, Sweden, Finland, and Russia.

So, go............Latvia!!!
