Broken 16 381 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 I support any team that is going against Canada. Only because I love sitting back and watching the Canadian supporters throw epic temper tantrums and lash out at anything they can. It's awesome.

Zetts 236 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) It's fun? Who cares, it's the Olympics. Not everybody is indifferent about the Olympics as is evident from all of the Americans who seem to desperately want Canada to lose. And I think Blues fans have a reason for hating on Detroit in particular. If there wasn't, they'd have 28 other teams they'd be having just as much fun berating. You know exactly what I meant. Edit: Actually, the hate for Canada is quite reminiscent of the hate for the Wings. Two dominant hockey teams. I believe that you yourself framed it best when it was asked why a board hated the Wings: Because they're bitter little sots? Just a guess. http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=1873405 Edited February 15, 2010 by Zetts

So... 1) US 2) Canada 3) Sweden (for all the Wings) 4) Finland Needless to say, next Sunday will be uncomfortable. Edited February 15, 2010 by 55fan

TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) Edit: Actually, the hate for Canada is quite reminiscent of the hate for the Wings. Two dominant hockey teams. I believe that you yourself framed it best when it was asked why a board hated the Wings: You're analogy doesn't really work too well. The Red Wings have won several championships and have shown consistency over the years. There is great reason to envy a champion. And although Canada has a lot of hockey talent, they have ONE single gold medal in over 50 years. Wouldn't exactly call that a dominant hockey team. I can't speak for everyone else. But for me there is truly only one reason that I'm rooting against Canada. And his name is Sidney Crosby. If he wasn't on the team. I would be rooting for them right behind the USA. But I truly can't stand the kid. No way I want the media to slob his nob even harder than they already do. b-random 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 I really wish Pat Kane was Canadian, if he was, my choice would easily be USA. I'm just going to enjoy the games and hope the Red Wings players stay healthy. A USA vs. Canada gold medal game is my best case senario.

Zetts 236 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I'd say Canada's dominant. They even have a lengthy history of success like the Wings. Success 1920 onwards: Canada 7G, 4S, 2B = 13 medals US 2G, 7S, 1B = 10 medals Finland 2S, 2B = 4 medals Czechoslovakia/Czech Republic: 1G, 4S, 5B = 10 medals Slovakia nothing Soviet Union/Russia 7G, 2S, 2B = 11 medals Sweden 2G, 2B, 2S = 6 medals And the fact that they tanked last time? Even more like the Wings. They had how many playoff collapses in early rounds? As far as players go, I guess it's up to you guys. Your hate for Crosby over your love for Yzerman. Personally, even if I wasn't Canadian, the whole Yzerman thing would overshadow some douchebag kid. Edit: Besides, the US has Brian Burke. And Patrick Kane. I think Canada's players have the class not to assault a taxi driver. I damn well better see that taxi driver in the crowd waving a Canadian flag during every US game. Zetts 236 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 (edited) You mean Americans want the US to beat Canada? The nerve! I think you're being a bit sensitive here. They more want anybody who possibly can to beat Canada, not just for the US team to beat them. I'm not actually angry at these people - I know there's a rivalry. But if I don't say something now, it won't be nearly as sweet on these boards when Canada steamrolls every other team. Of course, if Canada loses I'll be hearing about it for a while. But that's how it always is. I live in Edmonton where a shocking number of people hate the Wings. I'm used to it. Edited February 15, 2010 by Zetts
McAwesome 754 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 I want at least 1 Red Wings player to come home with a gold medal, especially after that little pre-game ceremony they had on Saturday. That being said, my team of choice this Olymics is Finland. My favorite current Red Wings player is from there, plus a lot of my favorite non-Wings play for them (M. Koivu, J. Jokinen, T. Ruutu, funny how they all have brothers/namesakes that I don't like). Second of course will be Sweden (My wife will be pulling for Tre Kronner for Franzen). Would be cool if USA medals, but I can't bring myself to cheer for any team that has Patrick "20 Cent" Kane in the lineup. I could probably cheer for Canada if Stevie Y were still playing, but there are just too many hated players on that team (Crosby, Pronger, Niedermayer, Perry, Getzlaf) for me to stomach. Looking ahead to 2014, look for Denmark to have a strong squad and play spoiler.

There isn't a team I'd be opposed to winning. Typically I wouldnt want Russia to win, but I like Datsyuk and Ovechkin, so even then I'm ok. If the US doesn't win it, which I know isnt likely, I'm all for Canada winning it. I love Canada, and I don't know why anyone would root against them. There are a few players I don't care for, but the US has a few players I don't care for either. It's all about the international competiion for me..... so USA! USA! USA! Winged_Wheeler 3 Report post Posted February 15, 2010 Slovakia, as I have alot of friends at work who are from there.(who are making our rec team alot better!!) and Russia as I can't wait to see what their forward lines can do. Also will be looking out for Latvia as one of the players on our local pro side (Maris Ziedens) has played for them at the Olympics before. Go Team GB! well I can dream a little. You must of forgot that Hossa will be playing for Slovakia, which means they automatically lose.
