What is your ALL-TIME Wings line-up

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I will start by saying I have no idea if this has been posted in another thread before. I am sure it has. Anyway, here is my ALL-time Wings roster...

I went with the idea that I wanted to keep my players grouped in relative eras (as much as possible). I used a lot of centers on the wings to make this happen.

FORWARDS

Lindsay Abel Howe

Shanahan Yzerman Fedorov

Zetterberg Datsyuk Holmstrom

Libett Delvecchio Ullman

Gallant

DEFENSEMEN

Lidstrom Konstantinov

Kelly Pronovost

Larson Chelios

Bergman

GOALIES

Sawchuk

Osgood

Hasek

Oh gawd, yes to all of the above. I didn't get to see the veteran stars play enough to name any of them, so this would be my list also. Although I might throw in Fetisov instead of Fisher.

I had Fetisov in there first, but then I got to thinking how much I would have wanted for Fisher to be able to keep playing so I put him in there instead..

Good point about Fisher. I know he can't be happy that he's not playing any more but I hope he still feels like he's a real part of the Wings' organization. :(

This is what I'd want to see.

Fedorov - Yzerman - Howe

Shanahan - Datsyuk - Zetterberg

Maltby - Draper - McCarty

Grimson - Probert - Kocur

Lidstrom - Murphy

Fetisov - Konstantinov

Lilja - Chelios

Hasek

Osgood

2 scoring lines, one defensive checking line, and one kick your ass line. Sounds good to me.

These threads are hard for me because generally speaking aren't the players of today a lot better than last decade's and the decade before that and so forth?

It's so hard to measure because of differences in rules and equipment, but I always wonder the same thing.

By the way, you guys are making me miss Konstantinov more and more.

Here is my 23 man roster. At least as of right now. As opposed to putting all the super talents together I really wanted to focus more on best chemistry and fit:

Yzerman-Abel-Howe

Shanahan-Fedorov-Holmstrom

Lindsay-Delvecchio-Probert

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Franzen

Kocur-Aurie

Lidstrom-Murphy

Kelly-Konstantinov

Fischer-Chelios

Kronwall

Sawchuk-Hasek

This is definitely one of those things where I think of minor changes later on and feel the need to adjust it. :)

If I were to limit the roster to players I was old enough to watch then this would be my 23 man roster:

Shanahan-Yzerman-Ciccarelli

Fedorov-Larionov-Holmstrom

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Franzen

Probert-Draper-Kocur

Helm-Kozlov

Lidstrom-Murphy

Kronwall-Konstantinov

Fischer-Chelios

Rafalski

Hasek-Osgood

Ted Lindsay - Steve Yzerman - Gordie Howe

Brendan Shanahan - Sergei Fedorov - Sid Abel

Marty Pavelich - Henrik Zetterberg - Pavel Datsyuk

Bob Probert - Alex Delvecchio - Larry Aurie

Norm Ullman

Other good choices: Mickey Redmond, Marcel Dionne, Marty Barry, Syd Howe

Nicklas Lidstrom - Jack Stewart

Red Kelly - Marcel Pronovost

Ebbie Goddfellow - Bill Quackenbush

Vladamir Konstantinov

Other good choices: Paul Coffey, Flash Hollett, Chris Chelios, Bob Goldham, Leo Reise Jr

Terry Sawchuk

Chris Osgood

Other good choices: Dominik Hasek, Harry Lumley, John Mower, Glenn Hall, Roger Crozier

Tried to make a realistic team - with the third line as checkers and an enforcer on the 4th line.

I notice that a lot of people are using "What if" potential to make out their rosters, where a player who was excelling, already a very good player. who was showing amazing potential to become a superstar in the NHL is making the All-Wings team.

With that in mind, while still using the "Wings career only" requirement and assuming all "potential" stars or current players being ranked on current and future career will or would have remained with the team, I submit the following:

G.Howe

Yzerman

Lindsay

Fedorov

Delvecchio

Abel

Grigorenko

Zetterberg

Datsyuk

Redmond

Shanahan

S.Howe

Aurie

Konstantinov

Lidstrom

Kelly

Fischer

Goodfellow

Stewart

Pronovost

Sawchuk

Osgood

If you take out guys who haven't yet truly earned the "All-Time" honor, meaning Grigorenko, Redmond, Fischer, and Konstantinov, then the replacements might be Marcel Dionne, Bill Quackenbush, and Flash Hollett.

Also, I have to take an exception with some teams' defensive rosters.

Some posters have Slava Fetisov on their teams. While Slava was a great player, he was not better for Detroit offensively or defensively as Steve Chiasson was, nor did he play even half as many games. Chiasson was Detroit's top defenseman for years and was one of the better defensive defenseman in the league much of that time while providing strong offensive play.
