Ozzy for game 4?

Osgood was NOT playing well, so he played howard. That is not poor goalie managment. Dont just have a blind love for osgood because he is a your favorite and give me negative feedback because you dont agree with me. Howard got us to the playoffs and he is playing well enough to keep his starting job. Until he gets a loss when our d is playing up to there full potential you leave him in. Neither of the losses where a result of howard playing bad.

Negative feedback?? Calm down, you seem to be the one that is getting his panties in a twist when people disagree. And I'm a Wings fan before an Osgood fan, and I'm not alone in thinking two goaltenders are better than one with no experience. The Wings haven't played up to snuff, but as we saw with Hasek before he got yanked in 2008 and Legace in 2006, its really hard to get a foothold when you finally get some momentum and its taken away in 30-60 seconds.

what do you mean calm down your acting like i was acting irrational. I was just stating argue with me if you disagree but im only stating my opinion not anything out of hand. It seems to me you care more about osgood getting starts then the wings winning. That is all im saying.

You really should go back and review the first half of the season. In October, Osgood was getting no help but still many were saying he was the only reason we weren't getting blown out in many games. It wasn't so much that Osgood was bad so much as Howard got hot as hell for awhile and Babcock rode him. Then Osgood got pissed and ran his mouth (while his point, now more than ever, was probably valid, it was still a dumb move) and Babcock benches him even longer. Again, before Howard got going after the Toronto game in which Osgood was sick (leading to his being out a week and Howard getting a chance) and the team was horrible, Osgood had a shutout and 3 outstanding games (.950+ sv.% I believe).

Osgood getting benched had to do with Howard playing like a madman and then Osgood running his mouth. He absolutely was not playing nearly as bad as he did in the 2008/09 regular season leading up to it. I was one of the one's saying we needed to give Osgood more of a chance, and i still stand by that, but I'm also not ready to count Osgood out if we need him.

To me, it's really this simple: if Osgood's "bad" in the regular season was enough to bench him, Howard's "bad" thus far in the playoffs is just about enough to bench him.

I say start Howard in game 4 like most, and I'll certainly be cheering for him, but if he lets in 3 goals that aren't absolutely rock solid goals, in my mind, it's time to go to Osgood. The regular season is a different beast than the playoffs, and thus far, Howard has done nothing to prove that he's ready for it.

Again, I'm not saying he's done, and I don't think he's pulling a Manny Legace. I think he's a rookie learning a s***ty lesson. Maybe he'll get it together in game 4, but if not, it's time for him to start learning by watching again.

I had a feeling this would happen. However, I won't make a judgement against Howard until after game 4. If anybody sits for game 4 it should be Draper and Bertuzzi.

And I say that since it was argued all freaking season long that Howard is earning his starts then he is earning his losses too and should ride it out like a man... Let him LOSE!!!!! Osgood has been left on the bench so don't go to him when you know what you got right?? Howard has made his bed let him sleep in it kept hearing "It's his job, Its his job, he earned it..." OK lets see hoe badly he wants to play the next game and the one after that.....

ok no point in arguing.

Better get my rep up.

WE SHOULD START OSGOOD.

That should do it.

Internet tantrum much? If you have even listened to the discussion, the consensus is NOT to start Osgood.

not a tantrum relizing im dealing with all ozzy slappies.

Let me give you a summury of your points. Osgood would be jesus christ himself but babcock didnt play him so now even though osgood is the better goalie howard should start so osgood cant lose (because he will if the team plays like this) and prove you wrong.

Conclusion osgood slappy

It's a team game to me. That's what bugs me about these goalie debates is that despite the uniqueness of the position requiring so much goalie-centric thought, it's still a team game at the end of the day. That's why I didn't like seeing Osgood benched to collect dust and rust and it's why I think it's stupid to say that Howard needs to be the guy to lose. It makes no sense to me. If Howard's not getting it done, give Osgood a chance. Maybe he'll be too rusty to help or maybe he'll pull off his third straight brilliant playoff run.

I don't want to lose, period.

I don't care who's in net so long as we win, but if we're losing and Howard's not playing any better and we've got the best ******* playoff goalie of the last two years who's a proven Cup winner sitting on the bench, I say you've got to give him a chance. Chris Osgood is far from a no-name backup goalie. He's going to be a 400 game winner before he's done. If Howard can't do it, you've got to give Osgood a chance.

No chance. If Ozzie is put in he will find a way to lose 2 games worth on Tuesday and the series will be over.

Why does everyone blame the goalie. Yes the 4th shot was weak but the rest of the team has looked a hell of a lot worse than Howard. Cleary turns it over once a shift. Rafalski has been terrible as well. Franzen other than the shift where he scored this afternoon has been basically invisible and Bertuzzi had two sitters within 3 shifts this afternoon and missed them both. Babcock said it best in the Championship DVD "Usually when you switch goaltenders in the playoffs your fishing a couple days later". What happened a couple years ago with Ozzie coming in is the once in one hundred exception.

Really? While I agree the team hasn't been very good, Howard very much cost the Red Wings a chance to win today. Howard was bad - the second and especially the fourth goal were HUGE momentum killers. The stats show Jimmy has been anything but impressive and the offense bailed him out in the win scoring seven.

The fact is during the regular season, Jimmy typically always gave the Red Wings a chance to win. In the playoffs, mistakes are amplified as there is no margin of error for poor goals especially against a team like the Coyotes. Jimmy didn't even give the Red Wings a chance to win, which is what you hope for from a goalie on a day when the team didn't appear to have much anyways. That fourth goal was deflating - you could feel it from the fans at the Joe and see it in the body language of the Red Wings.

You are arguing against an argument that no one here is even making. None of us have said to start Osgood. It isn't realistic at this point thanks to Babcock's coaching decisions. I'll say it again: another performance like today from Howard in game four and this series is done on Friday.

If Osgood starts and doesnt win because of the team in front of him.. then It will be HIS fault not the fact that Howard sucked enough to have to go to Osgood... Leave Howard in Win or Lose he's been your guy all year... let him ride it out! time to take off the training wheels....

Haha your foil hat is cutting off circulation at this point, good luck with that! Nothing better than trying to have logical discussion with someone that not only doesn't bother to read the posts but relies on dismissing differing opinions as (insert players name) slappies. Suppose it is better than "nuh ah! cause i said so!"

Now, in order to essentially diagram in crayon what the conversation has been about, there is the "OsSUCKS is horrible!!1 Pee-Eww!!" camp, which is you, and the "we would be better off with Howard starting and a prepared Osgood ready to relieve" camp, which is everyone else. Within the latter are those who say "Osgood can still do it if brought in" which gcom007 is part of and those who say "Osgood is too rusty at this point" which I am a part of.

Glad to help!

We are now stuck with Howie... Ozzie hasn't played at all this year and CANNOT go with him unfortunately because of that... The defense has to step up big time which is hard and puts a lot more pressure on the team as a whole because I think Jimmy is kind of showing himself for the fraud he is right now. 11 goals in 3 games against an offensively challenged Yotes team is UNACCEPTABLE

Oh, I assumed wrongly that you were referring to Osgood playing great in the playoffs. I think Babcock switching to Luongo is a bolder move than switching to Osgood at this point. He pulled that off. I think Babcock still has something to learn about managing the rotation in the regular season, but i think he's learned his lesson about making a move when it counts the most. He's said for awhile that Howards earned the chance to start but they're in the best shape possible because Osgood knows what it takes to come in and win when it counts if we need him. I don't think we'll see Osgood starting in game 4, but I'd say it's far more likely to happen now, this year, than the idea of Hasek being pulled at all in 2008.

Pulling Hasek (a legend) for Osgood in 2008 >>> pulling Howard (a rookie) for Osgood in 2010 (who went on to win the Cup for Babcock in 2008)

Babcocj's had far more success when making a goalie move when it's come up than not. Don't think he isn't thinking about that at this very moment.

Fraud? interesting choice of words there

Hoping I'm wrong Lidstromboli and just having one of those typical Detroit "Blame the goalie moments" just really disappointed in the effort our boys put out there on the ice this afternoon... GO WINGS!!! gotta have game 4 boys

I never said I was convinced he could, I'm just not convinced he couldn't. I think it'd be worth the chance, and the more vie thought about it, I wouldn't be as shocked to see Osgood start game 4. Again, I doubt it, but Babcock's found a lot of success when making a goalie switch, as recently as a few months ago in Vancouver...it's absolutely not out of the realm of possibility in my mind.

I only meant the whole switching starting goalie part. Not how Osgood played. I disagree with you though about the switch to Luongo. I think the fact that having the option to switch to an All-Star in Luongo is a heck of a lot easier a decision than switching to Osgood right now.

Osgood could probably get back into form in one or two games. However, by then we'd basically be eliminated. Add to that, because of how little he was played, turning to him now would give off a huge vibe of desperation and lack of control on the Wings' part.

Howard hasn't been particularly bad, I say we give him a chance. If he really is starter material, these past games will be a huge motivation to him to play even better. Besides, people have said all year long, this is supposedly a rebuilding/retooling year for us. So lets see what we've got for the future. Of course, if you take Howard out this early, you risk really damaging his confidence in the future as well.

I just want Howard to do better, argh!! Likewise, I want the whole darn team to do better. I might've said go to Osgood if Howard had just absolutely stunk up the joint after Game 1 or maybe even 2, but I feel like it's just too late to try to get Ozzy warmed up at this point after he sat out so long. And I DO think Jimmy's got it in him to do better, but he and everybody else needs to step it up in a big way NOW.
