Sprsquirt7 45 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 This was on the puck daddy blog. Here are the links to the two videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZjBvMncouU&feature=player_embedded part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXemlGWOH6k part 2 Gotta love Datsyuk being the ONLY active player on the list! I guess kovalev counts but still.
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Personally I think it's a crime that Forsberg isn't on the list, but I do love that Datsyuk gets some respect.
newfy 695 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 No Federov is surprising to me
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Most of the names you expect, but Fedorov not being there was surprising to me. I think there was a bit of a bias towards stickhandling in the list, perhaps that is why he wasn't there.
atodaso 279 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 oh, i see how this list goes; they started from the best and worked their way down the list. a bit of an unusual way to present a list if you ask me. 1 Dave reacted to this
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Never really saw Bobby Orr play, since he was before my time. All i ever hear about him, and all of his highlights are of him scoring goals and being very skilled offensively. I was just wondering, was he even a good Defensemen? Or was he just on of those guys that could skate fast that you put on the blueline to act as a 4th forward out there? I never see or hear anything about his defensive game, so i was just wondering if anyone knew if he was any good at defense or was heavily relied on for his offensive production and that was it. titanium2 867 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Fedorov has to be on any list of this sort. Otherwise it just isn't all that valid. Guy could be the best in the league on forward and defense. 1 haroldsnepsts reacted to this
Guest dangles51 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 (edited) Should just go to show how skilled those russians are. Before I even watched the video I thought of the most skilled being Bure, Federov, Datsyuk, and Kovalev. Edited August 6, 2010 by dangles51

I'm pretty sure in the video a few people were talking about how he reinvented the position by being able to attack and get back into position before anything happened. His +/- was ridiculous if its any indication of his all around prowess. He was ahead of his time by leaps and bounds.
Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 6, 2010 Gretzyks said something about him being able to see in front of him and at the same time having an ability to see what was happening behind him. I could only think that the shape of his head being like a guitar pick must have something to do with that!
GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 Lemieux for me is the obvious choice. Lindros too, because of his size and finesse.

Orr was very good defensively. He had unparalleled speed, excellent position and stick, and played physical. Easily the best all-around player in history. A +\- of +123 in one year was not done with offense alone.

Shady Ultima 40 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 It's a crime to not even MENTION Lids. Arguably the best D-man of all time. I've never heard anyone say that Orr was at all defensively skilled. He was a great offensively d-man, but his defensive skill wasn't what Lids is. They're both great, but Lids is more defensive, and Orr was offensive. Also, no Howe? He dominated the original 6 days, above all others. Pretty good list though, aside from that. To really narrow it down to a top 10 is insane, there are SO many good players.
