Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 That's too bad. He was a great wing, lots of great memories. Cheers Kozzie. 3 Vladifan, Original-Six and soultrain reacted to this
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 That sucks. I hate it when NHL caliber players can't find a spot in the NHL. Thanks for the memories, Kozzie. 1 Vladifan reacted to this
GMRwings1983 8,794 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) I don't understand these Russian players at all. Most of them have children that were born and raised in the U.S., speak English, have American friends, are used to American culture, and attend American schools. Why are these players so willing to move their kids from that kind of situation to a whole new country, when many of them could play here in the NHL? It's one thing for athletes to move their family from city to city, but a whole new country is a pretty drastic change for kids who have gotten used to being where they are. Makes no sense to me. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted September 3, 2010 Hard to believe nobody had a spot for a guy like Kozlov. Yeah, he is getting old, but he is still a top-six forward in the NHL. A team like Columbus, for example, has the cap space to pay him, and the need for offensive players with the kind of skill Kozlov has.
Guest Stolberg Report post Posted September 3, 2010 He certainly wasn't a top six forward caliber forward last year.

Broken 16 381 Report post Posted September 4, 2010 That's too bad. He was a great wing, lots of great memories. Cheers Kozzie. My favorite Kozzie moment by far. Thanks for posting that. I don't think I'll go as far as Eva and say he is a top 6 forward, but I'm surprised a team didn't pick him up. He's always been money in the playoffs. Hell, some team should've picked him up cheap for the shootouts alone. I wonder how many more points Detroit would've had the last few years if they had Kozlov in for shootouts. It's pretty much a guaranteed goal.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted September 8, 2010 He certainly wasn't a top six forward caliber forward last year. Kozlov scored 26 points in 55 games. 7 forwards tied for 180th among forwards in scoring with 33 points. So given Kozlov'v points-per-game ratio and his defensive ability compared to the average scoring forward, you don't think he's was and is a top six forward? thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted September 8, 2010 So given Kozlov'v points-per-game ratio and his defensive ability compared to the average scoring forward, you don't think he's was and is a top six forward? No way. A PP specialist, probably. But there's no way I'd be cool with him on the second line. And I love the guy. All he did in Detroit was score clutch playoff goals. Man, if he didn't break his leg before he came over...
Offsides 21 Report post Posted September 12, 2010 Kozlov was my first favorite Red Wing because he donned my lucky #13. I read an article about his life way back in my young teenage years and it made me very sympathetic for him. I haven't really thought about him or even typed his name for so long that it felt weird to do so but I will always have fond memories of him. All these players getting old and retiring or moving on makes me feel so old.
