cupforwings 138 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 “This is better than the ACL I had last year,’’ Franzen said. this just sounds awful imo. As long as his injury is better then last years injury, its ok.

Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 Well I have a feeling the Mule's thoughts on a suspension won't come to anything. Just like the Orpik knee shot, Keith's elbow to Salei's face, & the hit to the head that Pavs got from behind in the 'Hawks game. I hate to be the one to cry conspiracy theory when hits like that happen to Wings players, but the evidence does seem to be mounting up. You forgot my two favorites: Malkin not getting suspended while getting a fight instigator penalty against Hank. Lidstrom getting speared in the testicles by the blackhawks (sharp?). Hey, remember guys, if its an illegal hit to the head against a wings player, absolutely no chance for a call. Lets get it straight. And that seems to be the pattern so far this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see a lot more head hits against our players, with the opposition knowing theres no consequences.
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 This is why it probably won't even be looked at, taken from NHL.com's "recap": "Wings forward Johan Franzen left the game with an apparent upper-body injury midway through the first period after he was hit by defenseman Mark Fistric in the defensive zone. Franzen spoke to the media following the game and admitted Fistric's hit is what sidelined him the remainder of the contest. Babcock wouldn't speculate on his player's condition." Apparent upper body injury after a regular old hit? WTF?!! Leave it to the NHL to completely sidestep the obvious elbow to the head. esteef
Learn2LuvIt 246 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Love Franzy. Getting a little concerned about his duarability and hope he's not another Lindros. BTW...Franzy stays down on the ice a little too long after incidents. A tad dramatic for my liking. It goes beyond trying to draw a penalty/major penatly. Not saying that he's not hurt and there are times when he's been hurt so badly it is warranted....however everytime he goes down he stays down on the ice for minutes waiting for the trainers. Murray hit last year, Gary Roberts glove punch in SCF's, Jamie McLennan slash in 07, the list goes on. I guess I'm more apt to the guys who (even with leg/knee injuries) try and make it to the bench at all cost and as quickly as they can(regardless if play is alive or blown dead). Anyhow, when he's healthy he's a machine. Edited October 15, 2010 by Learn2LuvIt
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) From what I had seen it looks pretty borderline as if there was an elbow/intent to injure. It's all in the way it's written, "apparent upper body injury" sounds a lot less suspendable than "head injury" like all the other media outlets called it. esteef Edited October 15, 2010 by esteef

MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 Looked like a pretty innocent play to me. Certainly no attempt to injure or anything like that. Fistric just looked like he was going to angle Franzen off into the boards and caught him awkwardly when Franzen tried to cut in.
jollymania 162 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 lol foligno gets fined for a hit that was half as bad as this one: but if you ask me fistric's hit was worth at most 2 minutes, the foligno one was no where near a penalty
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 but if you ask me fistric's hit was worth at most 2 minutes, the foligno one was no where near a penalty Foligno's hit used to be considered clean, but the new "blindside" (or "lateral") hit thing makes it a more shady play. I'm alright with a fine on this one, though that was a brutal pass. Absolutely set him up to get hit like that.

dicksmack 33 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 It was clearly an elbow to the face. I thought the league was going to crack down on this stuff...? It's not like there was an attempt to injure here, Fistric was just careless with his elbow. If anybody here has taken one of the new armored elbow pad caps off the noggin, you know that you can really get hurt. To me, as with high sticking calls, a player's apparent intentions are absolutely irrelevant. And besides, I have Mule on my fantasy team dammit...
